We fell in love with this property. It was all that we were seeking and more in a vacation home at this price.
The description of the rental was accurate. We got exactly what we were expecting. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was on the ball with the process and provided tons of useful information about the island of Kauai.
Our goal was to get away from the hustle of not only our home town of Los Angeles, but to also stay away from overcrowded touristy condos. We wanted privacy and the ability to move around and also cook our own meals. Sunshine was also a big factor, as this side of the island only receives about 15" of rain per year. We also enjoy adventure like hiking, surfing, and snorkeling. We were very close to Waimea Canyon which we went to three times during our stay. Also some of the best summer surf breaks are located within minutes of the house, including a local break called "Infinities" that you have to really seek out, because you would never hear about it unless you pick up a serious surfing guide. This break is for advanced surfing only. We were very close to Port Allen to take a sail to the Na Pali coast. (Captain Andy's is the way to go) Polihale beach is a great place to watch the sunset, though the road is a little rugged to make it down in a small car, but then again there are many roads like this in Kauai.
We BBQ'd almost every night and made breakfast every morning. We drank our Kauai coffee in our PJ's looking right out at the blue Pacific. When I sat up in bed I could see the ocean, and I could hear the waves crashing on the shore all night long. Lots of stars too, as there are very few city lights to encumber the view. I haven't slept this peaceful in years.
The only down side is that it was a little bit of a drive to the northern beaches (Hanalei, Haena, Ke'e, and Tunnels). While the northern side of the island is beautiful, it is more congested, it rains more, and slightly more of touristy. We really enjoys the ride, because it gave us the opportunity to explore the entire island.
We stayed for 8 day, and it just wasn't enough. It was very difficult to leave. In fact it took us 20 minutes to say goodbye to this wonderful house. I am most certain we will stay there again. It felt like the beginning of a beautiful romance. We simply can't wait to stay there again. We are saving our money now to put a deposit down for next year! Aloha and mahalo!
