This luxurious, private retreat is located in the Sandia Mountain foothills, yet is only a 20 minute drive to downtown Albuquerque. The 4000 square foot adobe house has both southwest charm and modern appeal and amenities. The kitchen has 2 kiva fireplaces, granite counter tops, an oversize Viking double-oven range, sub-zero refrigerator, and is furnished with everything needed to prepare a gourmet meal.

The 5 bedrooms are beautifully furnished, 2 have fireplaces, and all include premium bedding and fine linens. The charming living room has a 56'Sony Wega HD entertainment center with Mirage surround sound stereo system and speakers throughout the house. The house has 5 distinctive adobe fireplaces, brick floors, and 17 skylights. The lovely yard features a garden with pond and waterfall cascading through the boulders. From the huge outdoor deck off the kitchen the stunning view spans the horizon, overlooking the city of Albuquerque, Mount Taylor, the distant mesas, and the luminescent, constantly changing, New Mexico sky.

This spectacular property is located on 2 acres and borders the ten thousand acre Sandia Mountain Wilderness area on 2 sides. Hiking trails are located out the back door that can lead you along the face of the mountain to the Sandia Peak Tramway, or all the way to the top of the mountain along the La Luz Trail. A short 5 minute walk takes you to one of the Sandia mountain's beautiful watersheds, with a seasonal rushing stream and waterfalls.

This house is both a peaceful retreat, and a convenient base for exploring both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The closest restaurant is 5 minutes away, more restaurants and markets are 10 minutes away, the mall is 20 minutes, downtown Albuquerque is 20 minutes and Santa Fe is a 50 minute drive north.

About The Owner

Three things I love about New Mexico: the glorious sky, the hot green chile, and the unique character of buildings made out of mud (adobe).

I love the hiking in the Sandia Mountains, and from this house the trails begin out the back door.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005
Why The Owner chose Albuquerque

My family lived in the house from 2005 to 2008. It has the ambiance and serenity of living in the mountains but you are very close to shopping, dining and entertainment. The views of the city, mountains and desert mesas beyond are spectacular. This all-adobe home was built by an artist/builder with very little disturbance to the surrounding landscape. It is set within huge boulders and ancient oak trees. The top floor of the 3 level home is built into the mountain side, so from the windows you are eye level with the ground and have an inspiring view of the natural landscape. The mountain wilderness surrounds you, yet shopping and restaurants are only 10 minutes away.

What makes this house unique

Watching the sky from the deck can be mesmerizing, the hummingbirds always put on a great show, you might spot a bobcat from a window (don't worry, they're scared of you), enjoy a good book by one of the 5 kiva fireplaces, watch the snow build a winter wonderland all around you, hike to a waterfall or to the top of Sandia Mountain out the back door, drive 10 minutes to a great restaurant, enjoy a good movie or listen to your favorite music with the amazing entertainment system, spend time preparing a meal together in the spacious, comfortable, beautiful, gourmet kitchen, sleep in and enjoy the deep stillness of the mountains surrounding you. My brother, his wife and three sons, my sister, my husband and I LOVED staying together in this lovely house for our family reunion. Plenty of space to be together, and plenty of space for privacy too. The house is so comfortable, spacious, tasteful, well-equipped... high quality everywhere, from the Viking range with built in griddle (perfect for pancakes!) to the fluffy towels to the festive dinner plates. We also found the location to be very convenient (realizing of course that ABQ is a big, spread-out southwestern town, so everything was a drive). Eight thumbs-up from this crowd!

This is a lovely, comfortable, well-equipped house in a beautiful setting. It worked well for the number of people we had. The house is very well stocked with dishes, cooking utensils and pots and plenty of towels and things. There are lots of "public" spaces for people to do what they wanted to do. One of my favorite activities was "ballon watching" early each morning on the deck with my coffee. Of course I was joined by others. I heartily recommend binoculars as a must bring as the views are wonderful both day and night. Our group was spread over all age groups (11 from age 73 to 7) and all enjoyed the experience!

Amazing House

What an amazing house! We were looking for a large house in Albuquerque to use as our base for a family reunion. We has people coming from CA, AZ, CO and GA to spend the week together. The place looked good online but we had no idea how wonderful it would be.

Plenty of room for everyone and everyone had their own private space too. The views are out of this world and we even had a dusting of snow one morning that was a real treat and was gone by noon.

We were all in our sixties and one 89 year old. There are a lot of steps but we managed quite well.

Our every need was met and any problems were taken care of right away. We had a problem with the heat and the owner was right there to get us nice and warm in no time.

I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to stay in a first rate place with amazing views and sunsets. I hope we get to come back and stay again.
