ISLAND CABIN OVERLOOKING A QUIET COVE

Harstine Island Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 Adults)

Harstine Island is located 16 miles from Shelton, a peaceful little town located between Highways 101 and 3 on the Olympic Peninsula. Harstine Island is the third largest island in the South Sound (after Vashon and Bainbridge) consisting of 40 square miles with 30 miles of shoreline. The island is non-commercial and rural with dense forestation and abundant wildlife.

Located on a quiet cove, our cabin is a place to let your cares slip away. You will love the old fashioned romance of the antique filled cabin on 5 beautiful acres. Two sets of French doors open to a covered porch. From the porch rockers or the porch table and chairs you can watch the tides rise, blue herons take wing and otters pop their heads up to peer at you. Your own private deck with a gas bar-b-que and table and chairs overlooking the saltwater cove.

Peaceful accommodations with spectacular views. Rest awhile on a garden bench or on one of 3 large decks overlooking the Puget Sound and the snow capped Olympic Mountains.

Complimentary treats frequently appear-scones with homemade jams, hot cookies, muffins, cheese and crackers--whatever the weather or season inspires.

Leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind and reserve your special moment in time.

Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us! We had a great and relaxing time and hope to come back very soon! We may have to exercise for 6 months or so for all the great treats - but it's worth it!

Mike grew up in the Tacoma area. Went to Northern Az. University and taught school for 30 years in Yuma, Az. I grew up in Southern Illinois, moved to Yuma in 1968. Mike and I have 6 grown children and 2 very spoiled island dogs.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1997

We came to Lacey Wa. for vacations every summer from Yuma, Az. July 3rd, 1988 a cousin brought us to Harstine Island to dig clams. As soon as we crossed the bridge I knew this is where I wanted to live. When we both retired in 1995 we began to fill our dream.

If you are looking for a quiet restful cabin surrounded by evergreens and the sounds of nature this is for you! Spend the day digging clams and getting oysters right off the beach. Everything is provided. Spend the evening around your own outdoor firepit. Firewood and marshmallows provided. Enjoy the well stocked games, puzzles and movies.

Relaxing place!

  • 4 of 5
I was looking for a place that I and my two dogs could get away for the extended July 4th weekend. This cabin was great! The cabin is fully stocked with everything you could need. Judy had delicious goodies waiting every morning -- the scones and raspberry jam were the best! They graciously invited us to not only use the deck area overlooking the sound, but even invited me in to join in the family celebration and bingo party -- what great hosts! We were able to enjoy a hike up Mt. Ellinor and enjoyed Judy's blueberry muffins on the trail!

Great hosts, great cabin, great place to relax and unwind!

Old-fashioned Luxury

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I are over 60 and were looking for a quiet location in Puget Sound that was clean, cozy, and where we could cook without having to bring utensils and condiments. The hosts were recommended to us by friends. Mike and Judy’s cottage certainly met all of our requirements. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, dinnerware and pots and pans for all needs. The cottage is well depicted by the pictures on VRBO. We were particularly pleased when we arrived, at the fireplace which had been laid for a fire, and the delicious cookies on the countertop. Mike and Judy made us feel welcome, and invited us to make use of the whole of their property, including the decks overlooking the channel. They were also a fund of information about the island, and made it clear that if there was anything we were lacking, to ask, and they would supply it if possible. There was a nice deck on the cabin, and another nearby on the inlet, as well as a fire pit that could accommodate a large group. At Mike’s suggestion we picked two large oysters from the beach and cooked them for dinner. The cottage has a well-stocked cupboard with a wide selection of DVD videos and music. There is a whole cupboard devoted to games in addition to the various wooden board games we discovered around the cabin. The bedroom contains iPod speakers if one prefers to bring their own music. The TV offers a multitude of channels. All in all, many more entertainments than we could make use of in only two days. The bathroom with shower was spotless. The beds were luxurious and the bedding was high quality and very clean. In the morning Judy discreetly left warm Irish scones and raspberry jam on the porch table. They were delicious and substantial enough for our breakfast. We spent the next day exploring Harstine Island, particularly interested in the marina, and the two state parks. There is a $10 fee at the parks, or $30 for an annual pass to all state parks, and they are set up for campers, picnickers, hikers and boaters. The marine environment is very productive with harvest limits for a dozen species of clams and crabs. At the Harstine island bridge, there is an excellent boat launch. What we enjoyed most about our stay was the generosity of our hosts, the peacefulness and coziness of the cabin, and the proximity to nature. We would certainly recommend this cabin to our friends, and we hope to return soon. On another visit I would bring a small boat on a trailer to explore the waterways.

A Hidden Treasure

OMGoodness, words just don't describe the great time we had at the cabin.
Mike and Judy are wonderful host, & we were warmly greeted by both the day we arrived.
The homemade treat's left for us on the porch table every morning were sooooo good!! Scones, homemade jam, muffins, juice, fruit, & zucchini pickle's. Yummy! Oh, one evening Judy's granddaughter Maggie brought us cupcake's she had made decorated with dog bone sprinkles, as we have a dog, what a cutie she is, so smart and fun to talk to.
It was so peaceful, quiet, and the sernery makes you never want to leave.
The cabin was stocked with all you would ever need, and is decorated with reminders of past childhood memories.
There is a private deck outside the cabin with a nice b-b-q & a fire pit.
Mike and Judy also allow you to walk the property & sit on one of their water front deck's in front of their home.
They gave us all the privacy we were looking for, never intrusive in anyway.
While there I had the opportunity to visit with Judy for quite a while, what a sweetheart she is.
As I set here thinking about our time at the cabin, I truly can't wait till we have the chance to return.

A perfect slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I and our senior golden spent two glorious days at this charming and whimsical cabin overlooking a beautiful cove to celebrate
our 10th anniversary. We were greeted warmly by Judy upon our arrival, and found delicious homemade goodies waiting for us on the counter. The decor of the cabin inside and out is adorned with so many delightful items that just make you smile. When you venture outside your breath is taken aback with such beautiful, peaceful surroundings that you never want to leave. The cabin is carefully stocked with all you would ever need, and should you forget an item you are welcomed to just ask! Judy felt like a lifelong friend, warm and caring...never overlooking the smallest of details to make your stay an outstanding adventure.
No disappointments here, other than having to leave this perfect slice of heaven!

Quiet relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5
First I want to say how wonderful Judy and Mike were. I was a little nervous about having the owners close by but don't worry, they give you plenty of privacy. We walked in to the cabin and just smiled at each other, we had made the right choice. The cabin was clean, cute and very comfortable. The bed was perfect, good pillows and wonderful soft sheets. There was already a fire laid in the stove, ready to be lit. The extra care from the morning fresh baked surprises to the bundle of wood wrapped with twine left on the porch with an added touch of cedar. We couldn't have asked for better. There are two beaches, we only made it to one but our dog loved running up and down the sand. I have to say I was shocked in a good way with all the dishes and pans, no cheesy silverware at this cabin, everything was above great quality. Everything you could possibly need was there for us. Thank you so much for such a relaxing weekend, it ended too soon, but we will come back for sure.
