Rome, also referred to as the "Eternal City" because of its role in ancient times as the capital of the Roman Empire, located in the Lazio region on the banks of the Tiber, near the Tyrrhenian Sea. The climate is typically Mediterranean; warm and dry in the summer, moist and mild in winter.

As an important transportation hub serving two passenger airports Roma - Roma Ciampino and Fuimicino. In addition, the city has a well-developed transport network of express and city buses; also tram and subway (Metropolitana) they bring problems to the place of their choice.

In the city you can find the ancient city walls, triumphal arches, unique churches and palaces as well as the large public places, the catacombs, widely branched underground facilities, where Christian services and burial were completed. Also interesting is the Castel Sant'Angelo, which was built as a mausoleum for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, but was rebuilt in the Middle Ages a fortress. Also located in the heart of Rome as an independent state of the Vatican with the famous St. Peter's Basilica. The Vatican is the seat of the Bishop of Rome and therefore the Pope, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

In the numerous museums in the city there is much to explore interesting and worth seeing on art, culture and the history of antiquity and the Middle Ages. In a monastery designed by Michelangelo, for example, there is the Museo Nazionale Romano delle Terme. Here are issued Greek and Roman sculptures. The oldest museum in Rome's Capitoline Museums are the 1471 established that belong next to the much larger Vatican Museums the most important art collections in Rome.

Especially beteutend and worth seeing the Roman Forum and the Imperial Forums, the almost perfectly preserved Pantheon, the only remaining dome of antiquity are (founded in 27 BC, rebuilt 118-128 AD), the impressive Colosseum ( completed in 80 AD), the largest amphitheater of antiquity, which the venue of gladiator fights and other spectacles was, and the Baths of Caracalla (built around 217 AD).

Rome plays a leading role in Italian cultural life today. In the opera house, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, one of the largest in Italy, opera performances are offered that take place during the summer in the Baths of Caracalla. There are also in Rome about 20 theater and six concert halls, which offer outside of the summer months with a varied program.

One of Rome's oldest theater is the Teatro Argentina, whose exploration dates back to the year 1732.

Additional points of interest just outside the city, accessible by bus, train or car:

- Palestria, Sanctuary of Fortuna

- Rocca Pia, medieval fortress, built by Pope Callistus II, named after Pope Pius II

- Medieval town of Trivoli

- Ostia Antica and the sea, archaeological site and the port city of ancient Rome and beaches (public beaches and beach resorts get off at Lido Centro or Stellapolare)

- Parco del Circeo National (75 km south of Rome). The archipelago's unique natural areas. Circeo National Park created in 1934 with the aim generally to protect the environment and to create a dense network of communities of animals and plants in order to obtain as its great biodiversity can.

A special feature of the Rome and Ostia are distinguished over 2,500 small drinking fountains, fontanelle, with the best water quality, 'Nasoni', which the Romans called affectionately 'Nasone'. But the water of monumental and decorative fountain is not drinkable. If the note 'Acqua non potabile' find at a well, the water is not drinkable.

Enjoy your stay in the Italian capital - mittelmeerländisches flair, the nightlife, plenty of shopping, historical sights - immerse yourself in the history of antiquity and the Middle Ages.
