HALE MOANA : 3 MINUTE (200 YARD) WALK TO KAILUA BEACH

Kailua Studio Rental Photos and Description

Spacious Studio, 1 bath, Sleeps 2

Hale Moana is a Non-Smoking studio nestled beneath two lovely shade trees with a 'treehouse' view. Our studio is cooled by refreshing island tradewinds and by the shade from our Monkeypod and Tamarind Trees.

Hale Moana has interior teak and bamboo furnishings which rest on a cool, quartzite slate tile floor. Private parking & entry to a 750+ square foot studio and lanai. The interior also has a vaulted ceiling with skylights and plenty of light throughout. Gas two-burner cooking inside and a gas BBQ grill outside. 39' TV. Wifi.

Once settled in at Hale Moana, you will be a few delightfully sandy paces to beautiful Kailua Bay and Kalama Beach with views of Flat island, the Mokulua islands (Moku Nui and Moku Iki), outer islands (sometimes Molokai and Maui are visible in the distance) and wonderful sunrises too on our East facing, windward side of the island. Listen to the birds, ocean and breezes...

Send us an e-mail for studio availability! Also see our on-line calendar. Mahalo!

This home was built for our tutu, Moana, in 1939; it was one of the first houses in the neighborhood, when the streets were paved with crushed coral. Moana married and moved to Kailua, from Waikiki, to raise a family of three. The older generation remained in Waikiki, in the family home there, until the mid '50's. We built onto the main house in 2003 to create what is now our studio, Hale Moana. We hope you enjoy the space we've created as much as our guests, friends and family members do.

PERFECT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
This rental was really well situated, which made it easy to get around the island for touring. Kailua has a great town center with good restaurants and shops; Lucy's Grill was fun and the smoothies at Lanikai Juice were delicious. Our rental was really close to the water and Kailua Bay is beautiful and had good swimming, boogie boarding and body surfing. Our host was great and had the studio outfitted with everything we needed for a comfortable stay - not to mention very clean and beautifully decorated. Jennifer was available when we needed her for questions and we also felt like we had tons of privacy from the main house. The 'welcome book' in particular was very helpful and detailed. Being in a neighborhood was more relaxing for us than staying in Waikiki (which we've done on previous visits) and Kailua really had everything we wanted. We'd like to come back to Hale Moana and Kailua again and will recommend this rental to friends. Oh, and shave ice with a scoop of ice cream in the bottom is the best! John + Katie, San Francisco, CA

Owner's Response: We are always glad to hear responses from our guests and to know that they had a good stay with us; 99% of the time this is the case! We include a comment sheet with our welcome paperwork which has been instrumental in helping us dial our studio in so that it really is a home away from home for our guests. Visitors have had a really positive response to our information binder of local restaurants, shopping, and activities. Kailua town is growing and changing and has more to offer than in years past ( if you really want more than a great location, beach and swimming ! ) so even going into Waikiki or Honolulu seems like too long of a drive; pretty much all the conveniences are right in Kailua. Thank you for staying at Hale Moana. We hope you return. Aloha!

PERFECT PLACE TO STAY!

  • 5 of 5
Hale Moana is the perfect place to use as your base for exploring Oahu. Its amazing to be out of the traffic jam of Waikiki. Kailua beach access is across the street, MAYBE a 5 minute walk. Lanikai is a 5 minute drive, as is downtown Kailua (but you could walk if you wanted). Honolulu/waikiki/pearl harbor were all about a 20-30 minute drive, and the North Shore was about an hour.
The condo is spacious, immaculate, modern, with everything you could need including a very comfortable bed. It looks exactly like the pictures. Outdoor access to the bathroom/shower is key when coming back sandy or dirty from a day exploring. We weren't able to enjoy the patio due to weather, but there was nice patio furniture and a grill available. The kitchen has the bare essentials, but you could cook a full meal if you were motivated. We mostly used it for breakfast and to pack lunches. Oh, and alcohol.
Jennifer was great; very available by email before the trip, and easy to reach by phone for questions during our stay. There were some transient power issues during our stay related to a storm, which she was completely on top of and were fixed as soon as possible.
Our local recommendations are Tamura's for poke (yes, at a liquor store), Agnes's for portugese donuts, paddleboards from Kailua kayaking co, Kalapawai market for breakfast sandwiches, snacks and coffee
We highly recommend you stay here. Say hi to Gary (our gecko friend) who hung out with us during our stay. Mahalo!

HALE MOANA WAS EVEN BETTER THAN EXPECTED!

  • 5 of 5
I am usually skeptical of any place with all 5-star ratings but, in this case, the reviews for Hale Moana are well deserved. Our entire experience went very well, from the initial inquiry to the final day of our stay.

This was our first visit to Hawaii and we wanted to see different parts of Oahu. Hale Moana was the perfect home base for us. We drove all over the island, then happily returned to “our” studio each afternoon. In fact, we cut our trip to Waikiki short so we would have more time at Kalama Beach! It was such a treat to have the beach so close. Each night we either ate in (bought local beef at Whole Foods) or tried a different restaurant in Kailua town (Ba-Le, Tokoname, and Uahi Grill were our favorites!).

The studio itself is remarkably private and feels secluded, even though it is located in a neighborhood. It is also well designed and so much more comfortable than a hotel room. While we expected the basics to be provided, we were so pleased by the extras, like a coffee grinder so we could try Hawaiian beans! Jennifer thought of everything a person could need to feel at home at Hale Moana.

PERFECT ONCE AGAIN!

  • 5 of 5
My hubby and I have only been back home for one day and already miss Hale Moana terribly!!! We stayed at Hale Moana for the first time in October of 2012 and booked Hale Moana again for this October 2013 and it was as perfect as the first time! You just can't go wrong. Jennifer our host was as amazing and awesome as ever and had our studio ready with plumeria's sprinkled everywhere. Everything was extremely clean and it truly felt like coming to our Hawaii home. You can't beat the location; 5 minutes away from the most beautiful beach Kailua/Lanikai, 20 to 30 minutes to Waikiki (depending on traffic) and 1 hour to the North Shore. The bed was still super comfy and it was never hot in the studio. The fan, the high ceilings, the windows and trade winds all create a perfect temperature. Of course being able to hear the ocean in the distance as you go to sleep is the cherry on top! Mahalo Jennifer!

IM PARADIES!

  • 5 of 5
Absolut empfehlenswert!!!

Owner's Response: Aloha Beate & Matthias,
Your English is so much better than my German! Interestingly, we have had many German visitors to our studio and welcome all travelers from near and far. It's great to have the perspective of travelers from outside the US - who may not be as familiar with the Aloha Spirit - to really keep us on our toes so that we "represent" Oahu and the islands as well as possible. Staying in a clean, comfortable "home away from home" is key to the full enjoyment of any vacation. !Ich danke ihnen sehr fur die funf sterne bewertung!

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME...

  • 5 of 5
No matter where we explored on Oahu, we always felt blessed to return to Hale Moana, our home away from home. Under its canopy of magnificent trees, we felt we were nesting in a rain forest. The chirping of the birds, the cool and inviting slate tile, the soothing rain shower, Jennifer’s attention to detail in her Aloha spirit decorating just added to the overall feeling of calm. Kailua is a perfect location off the beaten bath, away from the maddening crowds, a stone’s throw from the finest beaches on the islands, and a beautiful drive to other parts of the island. We especially appreciated Jennifer’s thoughtful touches of fragrant plumeria petals from her own tree, the stamped postcards ready to go, the awaiting Hawaiian music, and the wealth of supplies which met all our needs. The laminated maps of Kailua and Oahu (both sides!) were incredibly helpful in giving us a point of reference with lots of good details too. Our week at Hale Moana was a true bucket list experience, one we will never forget. Mahalo nui Jennifer!!
