In Salgadinho, nature & comfort are in harmony. The small and very individual holiday complex for high demands and the nature paradise Selao Da Eira Velha are in a nature reserve in the Alentejo Litoral on the southwest Atlantic coast in an extremely comfortable climate zone and a landscape, which is hard to find in Europe in its pureness and diversity of nature in a relatively small area. Here it is also mostly sunny with clear air and a deep blue sky during the fall and winter as well. Beaches, steep coasts and dunes are for hikers, walkers and cyclists during this season. A place to breath in, relax and forget stress and the rhythm of life in the city.
We are open year round and guests are welcome during Christmas and New Years and will be welcomed with a small present, including champagne for New Years. We also look forward to older and individual guests and offer them the possibility to celebrate Christmas or New Years together if desired.
The cottage complex Salgadinho has a modern ambiance. Construction and equipment of the houses correspond with ecological standards and the ideas of modern comfort. This includes a wonderfully equipped kitchen, satellite TV, WiFi, radio and CD/MP3 player. All three holiday homes are cosy, high quality and equipped with attention paid to detail. Thanks to a modern heating system, it satisfies the requirements for a demanding holiday home in the fall and winter. Furthermore, (except in the mill) there is a cast-iron fireplace, which creates a particularly cosy atmosphere on cool days and evenings.
O Moinho is a cosy studio on two floors, ideal for a romantic holiday or also as a refuge. On the bottom floor you will find the kitchenette with a dining corner and a shower bath. The living room/bedroom on the top floor offer a fantastic view of the sunset over the sea - directly in front of the bed. The mill also has a small covered terrace with a table and chairs and a sun terrace with swing chair.
The modern houses Casa Pavao (2-5 people) and Casa Peixe (1-3 people), each with a large covered, furnished terrace, are spacious and also ideal for long-term stays. There are two separate houses, but they are connected inside and can be rented as a semi-detached house for 7-8 people.
Casa Pavao is the larger of the two houses with its own bedroom and a sleeping gallery. The latter is very cosy, but cannot be stood up in completely by adults due to the roof angles. The bathroom has a corner bathtub and window. The house offers a wide view of the mountains, plateau and the sunset over the Atlantic.
Casa Peixe has an open construction, whereby the sleeping area is separate and cannot be seen from the living room. The bathroom is very spacious with a window. The house is located directly on the water and offers a really amazing view of the Monchique mountains and the sunrise.
The shared outdoor area has green areas with grass, trees and bushes. The swimming pool is a part of the 150 m2, natural looking water landscape and seems like a lake, particularly on cloudy days. Furthermore, there is a BBQ area with a terrace and communal room with a large dining table and dishes. You can observe the panorama of the sunset protected from the wind from the outlook terrace above this with a chequered floor.
Guests with a handicap: By the design and set-up of Casa Peixe, their needs and limitations were thought of. The house is wheelchair accessible in a discrete manner, just like the affiliated outdoor area. Access to the swimming pool is soft without stairs to the swimming area and thus, also possible for people in wheelchairs. In service, we offer handicap guests and seniors special support if required. On request, there is a driving service to the beaches or shopping, on agreement we can accompany you on interesting excursions.
In our small Thai-Ayurveda treatment centre, under management of a professional therapist from Thailand, we offer healing massages and other natural treatments. On request, a make-up artist can come as well.
The nature paradise of Selao Da Eira Velha is located down in the valley on the European hiking route GR 11, which is called Rota Vicentina in Alentejo. The section between S. Teotónio and S. Miguel/Odeceixe runs partially directly to the bordering property. Currently, there is only a guest house with kitchenette and shower bath, ideal for 1-2 people. The house is integrated in the land, but has two separate terraces. The swimming pool in the former mill pool can be used on request.
Selao Da Eira Velha is open for hikers and cyclists who come over the Rota Vicentina, but also the guests of Salgadinho are welcome to discover the beauty of this place, to observe the animals in and on the water and to relax and enjoy the wonderful places. The private, natural forest region, the river valley and the lake are the natural living space of birds, fish, turtles, frogs, saurian and bonelli-eagles, foxes and wild boar also like to go here. Further up in the property you will find a large pond, which is used by white and black swans and different types of ducks and geese. Dozens of peacocks, also white ones, run around free and show their feathers impressively during the mating season. When the male peacock lose their feathers, the visitors like to take them along as souvenirs. Of course, there are also chicken, cats and our dogs.
In the agricultural part, there are olive trees, orchards and vineyards from which we make our own light house wine. For self-catering and, depending on availability, for interested guests, there are biological vegetables and eggs from the free land chicken.
Around the property, visitors will find countless places to relax and nice terraces that invite you to unwind, on request with drinks and snacks. On request, a lunch or dinner in the nature is possible, whereby the selection is between Portuguese, Asian or vegetarian cuisine with an advance booking.
Salgadinho and Selao Da Eira Velha offer the best requirements for a special and relaxing holiday. We enjoy making the beauty of these places accessible for people who are looking for a peaceful and diverse place for a short vacation, longer rest or for creative work, where they can enjoy the nature while 'sitting' or enjoy a comfortable accommodation with a view from the window when not on the beach, hiking or cycling and simply listen to the birds, crickets and other natural sounds and can watch the stars at night. Stressed people, tired city dwellers and real nature lovers can find relaxing moments and new power here. Children who grow up in the city and only know pets will have completely new experiences in Selao Da Eira Velha.
For guests who do not only want to relax or retreat, there are bicycles available. Those who like to use motors to discover the surroundings off of paved roads and have experience in doing so can rent the Pajero terrain vehicle on a daily basis.
Furthermore, we offer different 'active offers':

The company 'Selao Da Eira - Turismo Rural no Alentejo' was founded in 2009 with a tourism concept, which is based on small scales, individuality, networking and quality on the basis of ecological standards. Our wish is to offer people from the modern world a way to deal with the normal stress and simultaneously support development in the Odemira district, which is obligated to preserve the landscape and the economic development.
Our eco-tourism is located on the Atlantic in the Alentejo, not far from the sea in a nature reserve. Since May, there are two marked hiking routes: The Trilho Dos Pescadores follows the steep case past many sand bays and dune beaches with rich coastal vegetation. The Rota Vicentina, part of the European hiking route GR 11, runs between the sea and the soft hilly landscape of the Serra do Monchique past small cities and typical villages. In the section between S. Teotónio and Odeceixe, it passes our nature paradise Selao Da Eira Velha, which invites you to relax by the stream, lake or pond with or without 'petisco' (snacks). Here you will also find our small professional Thai-Ayurveda treatment centre. From here it is only 1.5 km to the cottage complex Salgadinho, which is located on the highest point of the region with 3 holiday homes and a water landscape with swimming pool and thus, provides a panorama view of the landscape up to the Atlantic and a stunning panorama daily from sunrise over the hills and sunset over the sea.
The landscape invites you to go on walks, cycling, bird watching, horse riding and fishing. Hiking on the steep coast means kilometres of wonderful sea views surrounded by dune vegetation, which blooms starting in January until the summer. From the coastal plateau by the lighthouse Cabo Sardao, you can also observe the sea lion colonies and stork - even in a wheelchair.
Each bay has its own character, they share the atmosphere with sea, sand and cliffs. The most popular beaches near Salgadinho are (distance in approximate driving time):
Carvalhal (15 m) - beach bay surrounded by cliffs, beach cafe in the summer; accessible in a wheel chair
Praia da Amália (15 m) - smaller beach bay, which belonged to the Fado singer Amália Rodrigues; can be reached in a short walk on a hidden path
Praia De Odeceixe (20 m) - large sea and river beach underneath the rock coast, 1 kiosk, 3 restaurants/cafés; river beach accessible for wheelchairs from one side; city of Odeceixe 3 km away
Alterinhos (20 m) - small sand bay surrounded by cliffs, nude beach
Zambueira-Do-Mar (20 m) - several bays with sand beaches and steep coasts directly by the city; countless restaurants, bars, cafés, stores; partially accessible by wheelchair
Almograve (25 m) - long, flat dune beach, small fishing harbour, accessible by wheelchair
Furnas (35 m) - flat beach, restaurant, accessible by wheelchair
Milfontes (35 m) - beach by cliffs on the edge of this lively tourist city

Amoreira (35 m) - long dune beach and river beach, wave riding, restaurant open year round
Carrapateira (50-55 m) - flat dune beaches, surf centre, restaurants, partially accessible by wheelchair
There are a lot of small bays next to it, the most travelled coastal path Trilho do Pescador, some are only accessible by low tide.
Sagres with its harbour and the old fort (museum) and the southwest tip of Europe Cabo Sao Vicente are worth a visit, also for diving and watching dolphins, also the beaches on the west Algarves.
The closest shopping options (large supermarket, fresh market, shops, newspapers) are in Sao Teotónio, a typical Alenteja city. Here there is also a health station, doctor, pharmacies, banks, post office, police station and a monthly market. The regional fair FACHECO occurs in July.
Zambujeira Do Mar and Milfontes are the central tourist locations in the region on the sea with beautiful beaches and a large number of shops and restaurants.
Odemira, management centre of the district, is located on the Mira rover with small alleys and an infrastructure similar to S. Teotónio. Furthermore, there is a bio store, indoor pool, cinema, different cultural events and a library, which also has German ,English and French books. Don't forget the wonderful goat cheese dairy, the chocolate factory and the local handicrafts. Lidl and Aldi are nearby.
Aljezur and Odeceixe belong to the Algarve, but are a part of the local infrastructure in regards to shopping, dining, mail and bank, and there are wonderful beaches. Aljezur has an indoor pool, magazine store with foreign press and card material, supermarket, bio store and a 'mom and pop' shop with fresh bread daily. The 'Mercado' is a top address for local fresh food (vegetables, fish, meat, cheese). Also in Odeceixe there is a small fish market, international newspapers/magazines and a very good bakery.
A larger offer for shopping and going out and different cultural events is about one hour drive away in the Algarve in Lagos and in Portimao.
