We had a wonderful time in the Black Pearl. We were positively surprised when we saw that it looks even better than on the photos.
The bungalow is a dream come true. The terrace is awesome, overlooking the lagoon and you just want to keep on watching what is going on over and under the water ;-)
If you are looking for relax away from the big resorts on Bora Bora this is the perfect place to go.
We hope to come back one day!

My husband and I stayed at the Black Pearl for five lovely nights. We had visited Bora Bora once previously via cruise ship and wanted to try a longer stay at an over-the-water bungalow. We had a wonderful time and recommend it highly. Everything is as advertised, and more. The Black Pearl is situated in a more secluded part of the island (although grocery stores and restaurants are easily accessible by car), and we so appreciated the peace and quiet. Other bungalow resorts around the island seem far more congested. The Black Pearl has its own walkway and deck, and there's plenty of privacy. We loved jumping into the ocean or taking out a kayak from the private dock, and you can sit for hours on the large, shaded deck, enjoying unobstructed views of the sunsets and gorgeous water. We enjoyed using the well-equipped kitchen and grilling fresh fish on the barbecue. The rest of the unit is well designed and comfortable, with a modern bathroom that includes a spacious shower and tub. Richard was a pleasure to deal with, as was his local assistant, Stephan, who responded promptly and efficiently whenever we had a question. We're so glad we found this property and hope others will enjoy it as much as we did.
My wife and I would echo a number of comments in other reviews. The Black Pearl was a great place to stay on Bora Bora. Richard was personable, organized, and informative throughout the rental process. Nir met the ferry on time was friendly and helpful for us. He was "on call" but never inserted himself during our stay. Car is a definite must-have for getting around.
We like to cook so the kitchen was well-appointed for folks like us and the BBQ was great for grilling fish and that tender New Zealand beef.
Bed was comfy and loved the local art. Nothing like having several personal tikis looking out for you while staying there!
Access to the water was great and make sure you snorkel around as there are lots of fish near the coral heads along the waterfront. Kayaks were also great and a good way to see some of the island by water. We also loved the local boat tours from the cruise ships slowing down to give the "Marlon Brando" speech about the other over-water bungalows.
Can't say enough positive things about the experience. A definite "thumbs up" for anybody's bucket list.
Words can't describe the absolutely amazing experience that Bora Nora offers. Beautiful fruit and very amenity awaited us in Richard and Seiko's incredible black pearl . We felt as if we were in an alternate universe and realised we we were in one of the most idyllic ,lovely spots in the world.Morning coffee on the veranda and watching the lagoon was an experience that we will always remember for the quiet , along with sweet wind on our cheeks. Sunsets each one more spectacular than the last.
I would recommend this unique and wonderful property to anyone wishing for a complete rest and endless recreation opportunities from kayaking, swimming, sightseeing ,snorkeling.
Thanks again Richard and Seiko for sharing your home.
We just kept saying this each time we drove up to our "home" in Bora Bora!
When we arrived at the airport and got on the ferry, we saw 4 bungalows across the bay heading to Vaitape port...could that be our place? It was!
If you want privacy, a breeze, your own dock, cook your own meals (if you feel like it) and independence, rent this bungalow! It is fully furnished with the "local" flare. We had wifi to play our own tunes and stay in touch with home (not work) if we felt like it!
Loved the outside shower and dock...I floated in our own little lagoon. My love enjoyed the kayak for a bit of sporting action. Watched the sunset nightly, with the path of the setting sun on the water, B lining for our porch, amazing! We ate fresh bread, from town, daily (sometimes it was still warm) and witnessed water color changes off our own porch!
Richard was a great help, very responsive and calmed my nerves dealing with a private residence over the internet.....he is an honorable man and has a good reputation in Bora Bora.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay, our house and this beautiful island!
This is long overdue! My husband and I had the pleasure, no the privilege of staying at this beautiful jewel of a home over the water in Bora Bora. It all started with lots of daydreaming and then conversations with the owner of the Black Perl, Richard, who is an absolute delight.
We sealed the deal for 16 days in this beautiful home and when we arrived it was more than we could have even dreamed of! Lovely accommodations, gorgeous setting, wildlife in the blue waters that we played with every day. We loved having our own space. If you want coffee to watch the sunset you make a cup and sit on the house dock. No having to dress to go down to a stuffy lobby in some hotel. We would go to the market and gather fresh fish, greens and bread and whipped up a tasty BBQ for dinner. Truly the best way to travel.
Richard, thank you for making this dream come true by sharing your home. This was a present for my husbands birthday in 2012 and it is one he will always remember.

James Michener called Bora Bora 'The most beautiful island in the world. And it is, it really is.
Bora Bora is one of the Society Islands in the South Pacific, Tahiti being the largest. It is only a seven and a half hour flight from Los Angeles and only three hours earlier PST. The same time zone as Hawaii. Only two hours when daylight savings time ends. To get there, you take a direct flight to Tahiti and then a 45 minute island hopper to Bora Bora. You are now officially in paradise. Use your state of the art kitchen to prepare a meal, or dine out at the many fine restaurants on the island. The activities are endless if you wish to keep busy, or just lie down on the veranda, listen to the water and finish that 1000 page book you can't seem to finish. Life takes on new meaning when you are surrounded by the serenity and the beauty of Bora Bora. Come and see for yourself!
