Sojourn House is a one-level, 1,550 square-foot house with a large private back garden with patio. Well built in 1958, it has high ceilings, hardwood floors, and two bathrooms. Special features include Oriental rugs, two large comfy sofas in the living room, original art on the walls, some interesting antique furniture, luxurious 100% cotton bed linens, and down-filled comforters. The master bedroom has its own cable TV and en suite bath. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, full-sized stove/oven, dishwasher, full-size refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, and coffee grinder. The kitchen is stocked with all the dishes, glasses, cooking pots, and utensils you could need. You can walk 1/3 mile into Vashon town to restaurants or a movie, or catch a Metro bus into Seattle. NEW! Free Wireless Internet. Sojourn House is one-level and wheel-chair accessible, (with the only hitch being a 27 inch door width into the bathrooms).
Accessible only by ferry boat, the island is a step back in time from the hustle and bustle of the big cities nearby. Visit the lighthouse, or go beach- combing (the closest public beach is just two miles away). Enjoy kayaking (rentals are available), fishing, or diving. Enjoy biking on our hilly roads. Play golf. Or walk half a mile to a restaurant or movie in the village.
This is a great equestrian island, with lots of trails. Horse rentals are available.
Enjoy shopping for antiques, art, and local crafts.
As Sojourn House guests, you can use the Vashon Island Golf and Country Club for swimming, dining, tennis, and golf.
West Seattle is a 15 minute ferry ride away via the car ferries. During commuter hours there is a 30 minute passenger-only ferry service into downtown Seattle. You can catch a Metro Bus into Seattle if you'd like to leave your car at the house.
The excellent Point Defiance Zoo (in Tacoma) is within walking distance of the 'South End' ferry, and a 10 minute ferry ride. Our 4th ferry accessible destination is a 10 minute ride to Southworth on the Olympic Peninsula.
Day trips are possible to three ski areas: Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, Stevens Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass. Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helen's, the Olympic Mountains, Hurricane Ridge, and the Hoh Rainforest are all great day trips. Explore Seattle. Go to the opera or a sports event. Fabulous theater and music. One family even went to Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island in one day; but that is a pretty long day!

A wonderful weekend in the perfect place. We are 8 women with a passion for Mah Jong. The 2 tables you set up for us worked great! Good beds, comfortable and charming house.
My husband, Neil, is a retired Boeing engineer, and I'm an antiques dealer. I had 'Owen's Antiques', an antiques shop on Vashon Island for 24 years, but now sell exclusively on the internet. We golf, and play duplicate bridge. We are theater and concert enthusiasts, and enjoy traveling in Europe. Neil skis, and has climbed Mt. Rainier twice. We lived in Teheran & Isphahan, Iran for 2 years. I sing in the 80 voice Vashon Chorale. I enjoy decorating and choosing the furniture, art and accessories at Sojourn House. Neil is active in Vashon's Rotary Club, and is on the board of the island Food Bank. He also helps coach the High School Golf Team.
We live on Maury Island, which is connected to Vashon Island. We live in a 2-story house on acreage. We bought Sojourn House to be our down-sizing retirement home. Sojourn House is all on one level, which is a big plus! It is very centrally located near the small town of Vashon, so we'll be able to walk to the stores, and flag down the bus just across the street. Although the lawn is big, it's flat and much smaller than our current property.
Because we plan to live at Sojourn House someday, we are constantly upgrading and maintaining this attractive and well-built 1950's period 'ranch-style' house.
