Huddleston House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Welcome to Lake Retreat, it is more than just a vacation home. Lake Retreat is a peaceful, quiet escape from the hectic pace so many of us live.

This 4 bedroom, 2 full and 1 half baths home offers 2,000 sq ft of living space. Located on a waterfront lot with 1.25 acres full of blooming shrubbery and large oak trees, nature and wildlife are at your doorstep. A short walk from the back deck down a mild slope to the water reveals a natural brown sand beach and two private docks for your use nestled back in a cove. There is a sandbox near the natural sand beach for little children. You and your children can enjoy swimming in the cove and feel perfectly safe from boat traffic and waves. The old and the new docks provide ample docking space for your boats. The new dock has electricity. There is plenty of parking for cars and boat trailers on the lot.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fantastic!! Weather could not have been better! Caught bass and blue gills in Bass Cove, one 18" long. Love the new dock! Hope to be back next year. Used Captain Bert's (fishing guide) service-highly recommended-great striper fishing.

Our family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation. The grand kids loved the lake and it was perfect for young children. We had a fantastic week everyone had a great time. The only complaint we had was the sofa beds in the basement. They were not comfortable. But everything else was great. The other bedrooms were very nice. We would certainly stay here again.

Owner's Response: We plan to replace the sofa bed with another bed at the end of this rental season.

Hidden Gem!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a WONDERFUL long weekend at this Hidden Gem! My family decided to experience life at the lake one weekend and scoured the internet looking for just the right place for us. Close enough to for a short drive from Lynchburg (it was only 30 miles!) Big enough to accommodate us with enough amenities and comfort to help everyone unwind and have fun...and WE FOUND IT! Warren was very professional and helpful and reserving it was a breeze.

All stress melted away once we made our way down the lovely rustic driveway nestled in the tall trees and pulled up to this lovely lake home. The home was clean with everything we needed to make a wonderful memory. Very spacious and had plenty of nooks to nestle in as well as larger areas to spread out. Comfortable seating, plenty of beds and bathrooms, 3 table areas to play board games and enjoy delicious meals.

The first night we grilled out with the big gas grill provided. The kitchen was so well stocked my kitchen at home is envious! We enjoyed breakfast on the enormous wrap around deck. The huge basement provided hours of fun as we played many a ping pong and air hockey tournament. We set up the badminton net outside and even enjoyed the leftover pool toys. The gently sloping yard made it easy to enjoy the calm cove & the double docks. Even my 6 yr old nephew could venture out between the docks as it created a nice little swimming area for him. Beyond the docks it goes deeper so my teenage nieces could jump off the docks and have a great time. With a big table and plenty of seating options down at the dock, we spent as much time as we could soaking up the last of September’s Sun.

We all felt just like we were at home there. My 60+ mother walks with a cane due to MS and found the home and property easy to get around in. She enjoyed doing puzzles and drinking coffee overlooking this picturesque setting.

More people need to know about this little gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle. My niece said she felt like she was in a movie staying there because it really brought you into the woods and the lake setting in such a magical way!

We enjoyed our time at the Bridgewater Marina nearby on Sunday evening. Restaurants, Boat rentals, Gas stations, Grocery Stores...all close enough for convince but when you are nestled away at this lake house, the busy rush of the rest of the world disappears! Thanks to Warren for everything. The setting and the price can't be beat! My friend already has booked it for her fam

It was a 50th Birthday/Family Reunion week at SML. It was wonderful. The cottage is well equipped with cool retro furnishings, comfy beds, and a very practical kitchen. The atmosphere is incredibly PEACEFUL & QUIET. It's located on a great low traffic area of the lake. It's near a marina that offers great boat rentals and only short boat ride from the cottage. Also, great restaurants within a reasonable distance. Loved it, hope to come back soon.

Wonderful Family Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this house so that I could enjoy my husband, our daughter, her husband and my teenage grandson who loves to fish. We all fell in love with the deck, back yard dock area and the inviting home that was stocked with just about everything a person could want on a vacation. Our family voted and we will be back next year to enjoy this wonderful home again along with Smith Mountain Lake and Capt Todd's Shad Taxi service. We can't wait to come back again!

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We chose this property because of its size, affordability, and location right on the lake. When we arrived, the driveway was very large and the pictures accurately represented the house and property. Prior to our arrival, the owner had installed wheelchair ramps at both the front and back doors for one member of our group who required them.

The house itself was a nice size with plenty of room for everyone. The mattresses on the beds were fairly firm but there were plenty of blankets in the closets to soften them up if needed. Also, the fold out couch in the basement was broken by a previous renter and could not be unfolded.

The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could need (except a hand whisk). The deck was large with plenty of chairs for everyone and was great for relaxing. A propane and small charcoal grill were also provided that we used for steaks and burgers. About 50 feet from the back of the house there are two docks which were great for fishing from and relaxing on. We brought two canoes, a kayak, and a jet ski with us and left them all week on the water without them being bothered by anyone. Almost all wakes that hit the docks were very small.

Late in the week we took a 35 minute drive to the Roanoke River for an afternoon float trip. The river was nice, though when we were about to launch, several feet of water was released from the dam. Also towards the end of the trip near Altavista, there are some pretty nasty rapids that capsized a couple of us (wear your life preservers!).

One final note, keep an eye out for deer when driving in the area. We saw deer on and around the property every single day. One afternoon while sitting in the living room we saw 5 deer walk across the driveway.

Overall I would recommend this property to anyone looking for an affordable, well equipped house that is right on the water and is owned by someone that is easy to work with and provides very good communication.

Owner's Response: I am happy you enjoyed your visit at our vacation home. The fold out bed downstairs was broken by a past customer. We bought a futon three years ago to replace the broken fold out bed and is the bed that should have been used. It was also downstairs. The kayaking below the Leesville Dam (Staunton River) going to AltaVista is excellent for kayaking, done that many times myself. It is about 45 minute drive from the vacation home. I thank you for your comments about how you found the wheelchair accessibility, I was interested if they met your expectations. I'll pass on your comment about the "whisk" to my wife. She has had many comments about how well equipped the kitchen is. Thanks so much for leaving the house very clean when you departed. I am well aware of the deer population here, they love everyone's flower beds.
