POINSETTIA HOUSE

Marigot Bay House Rental Photos and Description

2BR/2 BA Oceanview Vacation Home in Marigot Bay, St. Lucia

Experience one of the most spectacular views in the Caribbean -- an unobstructed view to the sea and the horizon, so you won't miss the green flash! This is a perfect location for one or two couples, or a small family. Poinsettia House is located within short walking distance of resort amenities. There is no need for a car as you can walk to restaurants, bars, grocery, dive shop, watersports rentals and more.

The beach is a two-minute walk from the house, with beach chairs free to guests. If diving is your thing, dive boats leave the bay daily. Day sailing trips take you up and down the coast or further!

Poinsettia House sleeps up to four persons in very comfortable king size beds made up with fine linens. The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed for the 'chef' in you ! Two sitting areas plus the outside deck give you lots of space to spread out and relax. Dine inside on a large table with a view; or on the outside deck with candlelights under the stars. The grounds are well maintained by our gardener with fruit trees and flowering plants and shrubs. The house is kept in immaculately clean condition by our housekeeper, Luciana.

There's lots to do here! Take a short walk to the beach and sit on one of our loung chairs with a good book. Snorkel on the outer edges of the bay. Take a water taxi to a nearby beach for more snorkeling. Or hop one of the dive boats and explore the wrecks off the beach. Go for a west coast tour and see the volcano, botanical gardens, Pitons. Go off for a day sail on one of the boats that go out of the harbor. Or arrange a private daysail -- just the two of you and the sunset. Go to the market in Castries and see all the produce that is grown on the island or shop for some local crafts. Experience a zip line tour in the rain forest. Climb the Pitons. Do lots or nothing at all !!

Guestbook comments from the owner
Note: this was sent to me via email from the guest on 5/21/03; they had been on the island to celebrate a daughter's wedding:

We really enjoyed our time in St.Lucia. Your place is wonderful and even now I can conjure up so many images. I used to get up early in the morning before anyone else was awake and make coffee and just sit and watch the sun come up and the early morning movements around the bay. Lucianna's cooking was wonderful and our children played a card game with her daughter which I don't think they ever really understood but had fun! The sounds of the birds at night still linger. And we saw the green flash - twice!

The wedding was perfect and everyone had a wonderful day. However we were glad to take the ferry across the bay back to Poinsettia House afterwards.

We are long time New Englanders who moved to Florida in 2012. We love both our island in the states and in StLucia.

Elaine Jackson purchased this house in 1986

We bought Poinsettia House years before the island was really developed to handle the tourists it does today. No traffic lights in Castries, not even many cars, few hotels We have seen many changes on the island over the years - -most of them to the betterment of the Lucian people. Marigot is still the Marigot we knew it back then -- particularly on the north side where the house is located-- little has change in our almost 30 years of ownership.

If I ask guests what they most liked about Poinsettia, I know what they'll answer. The View! And that's what sold us too.

We just had the most wonderful time at Poinsetta house. Our preference for this property was based on reviews we had read however, it far exceeds anything that could be written.
We pretended it was ours the days we were there :) but it is obviously Elaine's pride and joy. She has kept it so beautiful and clean and perfect. Luciana the housekeeper and her brother the gardener both work so hard at keepinmg it emaculate . Every person we met in Marigot Bay was so personal and friendly.
We wrote in the guest book that we dreaded the thought of coming home to glass in the windows !! We cant wait to return, it will be fun to see again the familar faces we got to know in the town.

The views from the living area and porch all directions are just breathtaking, so much boat activity to watch and keep track of!

PERFECT GETAWAY SPOT IN PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
Our week at Poinsettia House was so wonderful I do not know where to begin.

We touched down to beautiful weather at the airport in St. Lucia, cleared customs and did not even have time to wonder what to do next.

"Where are you staying? [Big-Chain Resort]?"

"Actually, I'm looking for a guy named Smally."

"Oh! Smally! He's right outside! I'll take you to him!"

Thank you to the owner for connecting us with Smally. That gentleman at the airport who introduced us was the first of several dozen all over the island who know and apparently love Smally. I know why. He treated us like family from the moment we met and ably introduced us to all things Lucian, including the incredible family of people in Marigot. My wife in particular was quite relieved to have Smally driving, not me, and I have never been so satisfied with a decision not to rent a car. Smally also took us on a tour of the southern side and took time to teach us about everything along the way, even stopping at several different locations along the banana plantation to show us the fruit in several stages of development. Every bit was fascinating. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Poinsettia House is in pristine condition and Lucianna, who keeps the house, even laid rose petals out on the bed and presented a celebratory bottle of red wine on our arrival. She cooked us some delicious food, enough for days, and even invited us to a DJ competition at JJ's where she would be cooking for the crowd. Unfortunately it rained all the next day, resulting in the cancellation of the competition, but she too went way out of her way to make us feel special. She, like Smally, is one of the kindest and sweetest souls in the world.

There are no defects or issues with the house. Everything is functional and clean. I could go on for days about the view, the marvelously-tended garden and the Lesser Antillean bullfinches that shared our whole visit with us. I have never felt as at-home while on vacation as I did there, and I know my wife agrees. We almost didn't leave.

Future Guests: Find Alex, of Brothers in Arms Water Taxi. He is affable, capable and trustworthy.

Most importantly, the owner is accessible, honest and remarkably generous with her network of contacts in Marigot. You will be in great hands if you need or want assistance, or in the alternative you will be left alone if you so desire.

MAGICAL MARIGOT

  • 5 of 5
What a location! Next to the rain forest, with a view - oh the view! The house was equipped to a very high standard with all that we could want (with the niggling exception of a working stereo system) and, within the bay area, access to restaurants, bars and shops to satisfy all basic needs. This will be, without doubt, one of our longest-remembered vacations. Poinsettia lived up to the pre-arrival info. The service offered by taxi-driver Smalley and cleaner Luciana was superb. Pre-arrival information provided by Elaine was extensive and detailed - very useful. I would return tomorrow and recommend this property without hesitation.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Cliff, for your kind remarks. Too late for your stay, but a new stereo system is on it's way to the house next week! Our old one finally stopped working - -salt air can do a number on electronic equipment. We did substitute a "boom box" but this new one will be much better - -and even has an IPod dock!

RELAXING HONEYMOON IN ST LUCIA

  • 5 of 5
Poinsettia House was the perfect spot for our honeymoon. We were able to relax at the house or at the beach and we were centrally located between the beautiful south end of the island and the white sand beaches on the north side. The house had everything we needed when we got there, which made relaxing even easier. Luciana (housekeeper) kept the place spotless and is a wonderful cook and we couldn't say enough good things about Smally (driver). Smally was always available when we needed him and he was fun, interesting and knowledgeable about all the areas he took us to. We had a wonderful time!

Marigot Bay is located about halfway down the island on the Caribbean sea side. It is a natural deep harbor which is ideal for the yachts that sail and motor the island chain - -providing a safe overnight anchorage. Most of St.Lucia, including Marigot, is hilly with the highest peaks being in the center of the island. Approaching the bay from land, one drives through the small village of Marigot and then down a hill to the seaside. A small ferry takes passengers across to the north side (where our houses are located). The crossing takes just a few minutes. There are no roads on the north side.
