We are within walking distance of Lover's Point Beach, downtown Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. Pebble Beach, Carmel, Carmel Valley, and Point Lobos State Reserve are just minutes away. Big Sur is 26 miles south, and Hearst Castle is only 90 miles south on Scenic Highway #1. Sit on a bench out front, and watch the seals and otters play in the giant kelp beds. Or stroll the hiking trail along the shore at sunset. Our season is year-round! Pacific Grove (PG to locals) is on the coast sandwiched between Monterey and Pebble Beach. The Mermaid Retreat is located in what was formerly the 'Retreat' section of PG when it was a Methodist town. We are on a small one way alley with one house between us and the ocean. Beaches are at both ends of Mermaid Ave and easily accessed on foot. The Pacific Grove Natural History Museum (free) is within walking distance, as is downtown PG, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and many other local attractions. Pacific Grove Golf Links is directly behind the Retreat and is open to the public. Several other world famous golf courses(Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Old Del Monte) are all within a few minutes by car.

Also indicate it you plan to bring a pet. We will send you 2 copies of the Rental Agreement , both of which you need to sign then send one copy back to us with your 50% Deposit. Keep the other for your records. This will insure your reservation. The balance, another 50% is due 2weeks before the start of your visit.

Great little place, perfect location, recommend!

My family and I rented this little place while I was at a conference in Asilomar. My three year old little girl loved the Mermaid decor. Property has an elevated bedroom (3 stairs up) that is separate from front living area where kids stayed. Property is clean and has lots of skylights, so you can't sleep in.. also has a great little patio where you can BBQ, a garage, bikes to use and a washer and dryer which we loved. This was 100% better than a hotel. We plan on returning. Great place for little kids. Property is limited to a family of four, there is a queen bed with a futon in front room, so housing more than 4 people would be challenging. Thank you Barry. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Great location and we'll be back!

Wonderful Little Place in Pacific Grove

My husband I and stayed here 5-6 years ago and we had a great time. Just as everyone has said, it's very close to the water (a block or two away), very quiet and cozy. We had everything we needed for our stay. We had a special situation with an elderly pet that was preventing us from leaving home for 3 years. But we were able to bring her with us to the Mermaid, for which we were very grateful. We needed the time away. I don't remember too many details, but the pictures shown here on the site are very acurate and the owners were next door if we needed anything.

I would definitely recommend this to any friends or relatives that need some time away and enjoy the California Coast.

Wonderful week

We (a family consisting of myself, my partner and our two daughters aged 16 and 21) spent Christmas week at Mermaid's retreat. This was the middle week of a 3 week trip spent travelling and was the perfect place to chill. The cottage is delightful and beautifully maintained and well appointed. It was warm, cosy and comfortable. Pacific Grove has so much to offer for all age groups. We all enjoyed the aquarium, plus the fantastic abundance of wildlife in the area (sea otters, seals, sea lions, pelicans, humming birds, mermaids...). The local shops and the Monterey shopping mall met the needs of 2 young women wanting souvenirs and american clothes. We all loved the new shop selling sustainable clothes in P Grove itself. The scenery is wonderful. We walked most places, too. Barry and Elizabeth (the owners) were lovely - helpful and concerned for our comfort (Thank you!). I would certainly recommend Mermaid's Retreat.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mermaid. Each morning we took our dog and coffee to the beach 1/2 block away. The unit had everything that we needed and the owners were very helpful if asked for anything. I think it is well suited for a couple, the space is "cozy", we enjoyed counting all the mermaids!! We enjoyed breakfast at a Victorian house downtown, but cooked most meals, the kitchen was very user friendly. The free passes to the Aquarium were appreciated, and a must see.

Everything I had hoped for.

This property was perfect, it was exactly as described and everything I had hoped for.

The location was ideal, very quiet and mere yards from the ocean. All furnishings were comfortable and all kitchen and bathroom equipment was clean and in excellent working order. We really enjoyed the deck and the barbeque, most evenings were spent sat out on there with a steak and a few beers!

Our host was very friendly and helpful and I have no doubt that if we had had a problem or needed assistance of any kind that it would have been provided as soon as possible. All contact during the booking process was done very quickly and painlessly and all my questions were answered promptly and accurately.

The property is situated within walking (15-20mins approx.) distance of Cannery row in Monterey to the north, and beautiful state beaches about 10 minutes to the south. With a car there is easy access to all that northern California has to offer. We drove to San Francisco a couple of times which takes about 2 hours (around 100 miles).

I have been to Pacific Grove before, and I love the place, it's very peaceful, but with all the amenities you could require for a vacation and feels somewhat untouched from many modern trappings of towns and cities even within a few miles of the town. I can't recommend Pacific Grove enough, and specifically the Mermaid Retreat, I will be back to Pacific Grove again, and I don't think I will stay anywhere other than the Retreat ever again!
