Zugspitze, Wieskirche & Castle Linderhof
The Zugspitze, the Wieskirche, the Castle Linderhof and the Abbey Ottobeuren are all worth a day trip.
Austria, Tirol is just a few kilometres away from Schwangau and offers many great day trip possibilities.
The Königsstrasse which starts at the Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, and winds itself along the Alpsee, leads to the „Gutshof zum Schluxen“ in Unterpinswang in a good hours walk away. There King Ludwig II enjoyed the gastronomy and we can still recommend it today! The Hahnenkamm in the Lechtal, a great ski and trekking area just behind Reutte.

Castle Neuschwanstein
built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria from 1869-1886 in place of the ruin
„Vorder- und Hinterschwangau“.
Opening hours: 1.10.-31.3. from 10 am to 4 pm, 1.4.-30.9. from 9 am to 6 pm.

Castle Hohenschwangau
built in the 12th-century by the “Lords of Schwangau” as Burg Schwanstein.
From 1832-1836 crown prince Maximilian II of Bavaria (1848-1864 King Max II, father of King Ludwig II)
rebuilt the castle in a neo-Gothic style.
Opening hours: 1.10.-31.3. from 10 am to 4 pm, 1.4.-30.9. from 9 am to 6 pm.
Closed December 24.
Roman Villa
(roman excavation, 200 a.Chr.) discovered during the construction of the
Tegelberg mountain cable car in 1966. Open for visits daily from 9 am to 5
pm, guided tours on request at the Tourist Information
