A great tropical getaway

Stayed at the Hale Kua for four nights and chose the place because of its seclusion, yet central location to explore the South and West of the island and the Waimea Canyon / Koke'e State Park.
We stayed in their Banana Patch Suite and found it to be spacious, well equipped, clean and surrounded by lush vegetation. Owners Cathy and Bill are very accommodating and we would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend it to our friends (unless you need to stay right by the ocean where all the condo's and hotels are... the Hale Kua is only a 15 minute drive from Poipu, and you can readily access the beaches from here, if that's your intention). Hale Kua is excellent value for your money, which is somewhat hard to find on the islands.
There is a good restaurant in Kalaheo (Kalaheo Cafe) which opens early, if you want to head for the canyon and the mountains (the viewpoints overlooking the Napali coast usually are in the clouds by 9:30 am and it is about an hours drive to get there, so make sure you leave early).
The property is about 45 minutes from Lihue airport (depending on traffic and time of day), but it is a little hard to find, so try to get there before dark and have proper driving instructions when looking for it.
