About Mary Beth or Jim Cowie

The house is located a mile west of Shadow Mountain Lake on a well-maintained dirt road, 3 miles to the town of Grand Lake, and 5 miles to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Mary Beth or Jim Cowie purchased this house in 2005

Why Mary Beth or Jim Cowie chose Grand Lake

We love this area of Colorado. It is a bit off the beaten path, yet it is close to some unique scenic areas, with lots of recreation opportunities. When we were looking for a lot to buy, we loved this location in WildAcres. The lots are well-sized and spaced, the area is quiet and neighbors are friendly.

What makes this house unique

The North Fork of the Colorado River is a short stroll down the road. The ridge behind the house provides a glorious view of Shadow Mountain Lake, the town of Grand Lake and parts of Rocky Mountain Park. Moose and Elk are frequently seen grazing in the area, often in large groups.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin was a perfect "10". The kids had a blast feeding the chipmunks sunflower seeds. Each day we really enjoyed the hottub, after horseback riding,4 wheeling and whitwater rafting. My wife and I enjoyed the deck each morning drinking coffee and relaxing. One morning we walked down to the Colorado River, and saw some moose tracks. The kitchen was very well stocked and the appliances were great. We grilled outside 2 to 3 nights, and the grill was great. The house and the town of Grand Lake was a great vacation. We will be back soon (I hope) We also some elk the morning we left, they were just down the road a bit. Thank you Cowies for a great place to stay for our vacation.

Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5

The home is wonderfully designed for a family getaway. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals and the hot tub was the ultimate in relaxation. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the beds were very nice. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely home.

relax, it's required here

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed at many VRBO properties around Grand Lake over the years and this has it all but the views. The many gathering places on the property are great for relaxed conversation. The fire pit at night is well designed for the perfect smores and star gazing. The owners are very easy to work with and keep the place perfect.

Great Home!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in many rental homes through VRBO in Grand lake but this on was my favorite. The house was beautiful inside (it did not at all seem like a rental) and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The house was a short walk to the river, close to town and in a very quiet neighborhood. My kids loved the fort out back and all the land to play on! We saw a family of deer (mom & 3 babies) and many elk. The only thing this house did not have was a lake view but everything else more than made up for it. I will certainly come back here again!

Mountain Bliss

  • 5 of 5

Enjoying coffee on the deck in the cool, crisp morning; watching moose graze across the property several times; viewing stars from the hot tub; a good game of horseshoes, air hockey, and uno; a short drive to 4-wheeling trails; feels like home to family of 8; an all out enjoyable time!!! One exceptional highlight was a black bear across the street which we safely watched from the deck!!! Thanks for sharing the mountain bliss.

Perfect weekend getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We went up to Grand Lake for a long weekend with friends. What a fabulous place! The home was more than we had imagined and the owners thought of everything. So many things for the kids to do, they would of rather hung out at the house rather than anyplace else we ventured to. Very close to Shadow Mountain Lake, where we rented a boat for a full day, super fun! Grand Lake is right around the corner and the National park was a short drive. Everything is at your finger tips!
