Hakalau House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Aloha and welcome to Hawaii Paradise by the Sea on the incredible Hamakua coast in historic Hakalau. This is a two bedroom, two bath plantation style home. Your back lanai offers beautiful views of the ocean, incredible sunrises, passing ships and whale watching. You can enjoy all this while relaxing over a refreshing tropical drink at your outside dining table or grilling tonight's dinner. While at home have some friendly competition at the foosball table (table soccer). Take a 5 minute stroll to the cliff's edge or down to Hakalau Bay for a refreshing swim or body boarding.

The locals refer to this part of the island as God's country and it won't be long before you see why. We are minutes away from Umauma Falls, botanical gardens, the grand 442 foot Akaka Falls, Kolekole Beach Park (a nice place to picnic), 2 Zip lines and the small town of Honomu with it's quaint shops and the best shave ice around. Honolii, one of the best surf spots on the island is only 10 minutes away. The historic town of Hilo is 5 minutes further with a farmers market, Tsunami Museum, Rainbow Falls, Liliuokalani Japanese style garden, Banyan Drive, Coconut Island and downtown shopping and dining. Another 30 to 45 minutes South will bring you to Kilauea Caldera-the world's most active volcano, the hot ponds and tidal pools to snorkel in. A 30 minute drive North of the house brings you to breathtaking Waipio Valley, Parker Ranch and golf courses.

The spacious retreat comes with everything you need to enjoy making your special meals or smoothies in this beautiful kitchen with granite countertops. You will find everything you need to make your vacation complete even your own washer and dryer. This home is handicap accessible. Sorry no pets or indoor smoking.

This is a separate rental unit adjoined to our home where you will have complete privacy with your own private entrance and phone number. So come relax, enjoy, and experience Hawaii Paradise By The Sea.

About Sandy and Bob

Bob and I moved from New Jersey at the same time as our home was completed in 2008. After vacationing on the Big Island for many years and never wanting to leave our dream finally came true. We are in awe of the beauty that surrounds us with the ocean view, mountains and beautiful flowers, this is an amazing island and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Sandy and Bob purchased this house in 2008

Why Sandy and Bob chose Hakalau

This property offers a wonderful ocean view for watching the ships, whales or just day dreaming while sipping lemonade. It's walking distance to Hakalau Bay to watch the surf, boogie board, have a picnic or see an occasional monk seal.

Hula and Adventures for Four at Paradise by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

This was the best accommodations we've ever had on this side of the Big Island. The guest house was roomy for four with 2 baths and kitchen, in a tropical setting with ocean view, and close to sights and activities. Location is ideal for relaxation and homebase for adventures up and down the coast. We came to Hilo to attend the Merrie Monarch Festival but we also managed to squeeze in trips to the Mauna Kea summit at sunset, Volcanoes National Park, Akaka Falls + Honomu, nearby beaches, swimming with the turtles at Carlsmith and of course local cuisine. We miss the coqui lullabies already. My daughter recorded the coquis (and birds in the rainforest) to remind her of the sounds of the island. We hope to come back again in the future. Mahalo Sandy and Bob for sharing the house with us.

Owner's Response: Wow, you sure made the most of your time here. That's amazing that you were able to do so much and see some of the wonders of this beautiful island. We have been trying for many years to see all this island has to offer and still haven't done it all, we are having fun trying though. We're so glad you got to go to the Merrie Monarch Festival, it's such a special event to attend and even better to be there than to watch it on TV. We look forward to your return trip to hear the birds singing and see this awesome ocean view. Aloha and Mahalo

Girls trip in paradise

Our stay was fabulous. The house is comfortable, very clean and inviting and in a great location for exploring the Hilo side of the island. Getting used to the song of the male tree frogs and road noise at night took a little getting used to. Morning coffee and evening cocktails on the lanai with the fabulous ocean views was delightful. We even saw a few whales! There are many "must do's" on the island and we did just that--helicopter tour, zipline, segway tour of botanical gardens, volcano national park and the many fabulous beaches and waterfalls in the area. It was a very full 8 days for us.

Thank you so much Sandy and Bob for your hospitality, conversation and recommendations for great local restaurants. It was a joy to meet you.

Owner's Response: Yes sitting on the lanai watching whales and enjoying a drink is the way to go, you can't beat that. Thanks for coming over to share your adventures, now you're Segway experts.

Quiet Relaxing Guesthouse

  • 5 of 5

We four friends stayed a week at this guesthouse. The owners Sandy and Bob welcomed us and were so helpful and friendly during our visit. The property is clean, well maintained and with a spacious living area and lanaii with an ocean view. One bedroom is a master with an ensuite bathroom. The other has twin beds. There is another very nice bathroom close by. There is no stove, though a hot place and various electrical appliances, including microwave, are provided so cooking an evening meal is possible. The lainaii overlooks the ocean and is a great place to sit early in the morning watching the sky brighten and the day get underway, and also in the evening as the stars come out and the frogs begin their calls. We found a lot to do nearby and the 15 mile drive to Hilo was no problem. We would use this property again. A Hui Hou!

Owner's Response: Your right about that ocean view, the scenery is always changing with the colors, stars, ships and the whales in winter time. If you're not careful you could burn you steaks on the grill while watching that view. You were all such nice guests that we do hope to see you all again.

Beautiful Home with Ocean View in the relaxed setting of Hakalau

  • 5 of 5

For vacationers who look for something more relaxing than the hotel resorts in Kona-Kaliua, this beautiful home in Hakalau on the east side of the Big Island has plenty of natural scenery to offer. Only 15 min drive from Hilo, the next larger town, the house sits off the road on a hill with view of the Ocean. The hosts are an extremely nice couple who take pride in treating their guests well. We were a family of four and enjoyed every second in this beautiful home. It cannot get much better.

Gracious Hosts and a Beautiful View

  • 5 of 5

Sandy and Bob are the most gracious hosts who provide excellent tips for making your visit to the Big Island memorable. This vacation rental is extremely clean and the view from the lanai is a stunning site to start your days! If you are sensitive to new sounds when you travel, I recommend packing a pair of earplugs to help reduce the highway traffic noise and the chorus of frogs. With this simple sleep-aid you will really enjoy your stay at Paradise by the Sea. It is a great location to explore Akaka Falls. We also used this location as our base to visit Waipio Valley - a beach that should not be missed on your visit to the Big Island! Sandy and Bob's hospitality can not be matched. The washer and dryer rack (and loads of hangers!) and the two bathrooms were great features to this vacation rental. Although, the kitchen doesn't have traditional oven with stove-top burners, we were able to prepare our dinners using the extremely convenient convection-rotisserie oven and for those who like to grill, there is a grill for use on the back lanai. Thank you for helping to make our trip to the Big Island to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday an absolutely wonderful experience.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed the beautiful ocean view from your lanai, the sunrises and colorful views out there are always changing. How nice to bring your mom to such a special island for her 70th birthday, what great memories she must have now. We're also glad that even though you got your dates mixed up, which we know can happen when planning a vacation, we were able to extend your stay, so no worries be happy.

Amazing Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four absolutely loved the beautiful stay we had here. With hosts who were hospitable but unobtrusive, the wrap around porch with a peaceful view of the ocean, the stocked essentials, and the overall restful feel, I would strongly encourage others to stay at Hawaii Paradise by the Sea. Also, be sure to follow "Sandy's Tips" that will guide you to amazing locations such as a black sand bay very near their house and amazing tidepools off the beaten path. In the words of our 21 year old, "We should have stayed here a lot longer!" Mahalo, Bob & Sandy!

Owner's Response: We laughed at your son's response as we always said the same thing when we visited the island. So we're glad you found paradise here to be restful and peaceful but just a short walk to the bay for a swim. Happy to see that Sandy's tips came in handy especially finding those tide pools which are loaded with fish. Maybe we'll get to see you again and you'll be able to stay longer. aloha and mahalo
