This is a newer Mediterranean Style guest house extension. It is located on five acres, one mile from the little village of Santa Ynez-a nice walk to the local coffee shops and restaurants. You will pass horse ranches and an Alpaca ranch. It is totally private with it's own driveway and entrance. A peaceful retreat with beautiful views and a seasonal stream at the bottom of the property, but with many activities nearby.
Our neighbors in Santa Ynez have: wine tasting and winery tours, at the over 70 local wineries. These include Firestone, Fess Parker, Gainey, Sunstone etc.
Also found are the Miniature horse, Alpaca and Ostrich Ranches, and the Chumash Casino. There are also the Vintage Motorcycle and Elverhoy Museums, the Maverick Saloon, and several famous horse ranches with Andalusians, Arabs, Thoroughbreds, Peruvian Pasos and many more. Monty Robert's famous 'join up' program is only 15 minutes away. Great cycling trails, used for training by Lance Armstrong.
Wonderful tranquil location - close to SY: We are located on a private partly unpaved road, only 1 mile from the village of Santa Ynez, with very little road traffic.
A safe and quiet area of horse ranches and an alpaca ranch on the road to the town.
There is lots of off road parking on the property, private separate entry gates and driveway, and an outside patio and gas barbecue
Santa Ynez boasts great restaurants, a coffee shop, a historical museum, post office, bank, gas station, pharmacy, florist, wine tasting rooms, an art gallery, a cycling shop for rentals and tours, and even a tiny library!
We are a retired couple who have travelled extensively and love the Santa Ynez valley and the friendly people here.
The property is in a quiet safe area but quite close to small town with all it's facilities, great restaurants, post office, historical western museum, great golf courses, many horse ranches, gyms, and many more attractions.
This was our second stay at Colin and Rosi's home, and it was every bit as good as we remembered. Go ahead and do your homework if you like, but I can save you the time: this is the best value for what you get in the entire SYV. Seriously. Period. Done. You will not find such a nice, decent sized two-bedroom, WITH A POOL, and a ton of land to explore (which our 4-year-old loves) anywhere close to as inexpensive as this rental.
But what REALLY makes it special are the hosts. They do all the subtle personal touches that make you feel welcome. And in our case for this visit, they did a MAJOR adjustment by making special arrangements to make their home available when they intended to close it off. Colin and Rosi are such sweet people, who will leave you alone if you want to be, but are always up for a nice chat if you want that, too. They really get to know their guests. For example: on this trip, when we arrived there was a nice personal note from them, as well as an article about professional surfing cut out (which is of great interest to me). They are just great people.
So, yeah, if you found this home first on your search, you're lucky: no need to search any further. You've found the best one.

The absolute best vacation we have had in years. The house was absolutely perfect for the 3 of us. We enjoyed the the walks around the property the pool in the afternoon and the evening time filled with cheese, wine and great company Collin and Rosi! The convince of our location gave us the opportunity to visit Solvang, Santa Barbara and other sites and we still had plenty of time in our day to come back and hang out in the pool! We are already planning our trip for 2015 and we can't wait! Ps. Buddy can't wait to see his friends Pluto and Dooley again:0)
Our (my husband and I and our two dogs) Jan - March winter sun break at Colin and Rosi's was IDEAL! A neat & hospitable home base for relaxing, sunny sits on the patio, exploring the region, ambling with our dogs & greeting neighbors along the way, and generally feeling very much at home. At the heart of such a positive experience was/is the extraordinary hospitality and ability of the hosts to be both welcoming, helpful, accessible and yet non-intrusive. Over the years we've stayed at many spots; Colin and Rosi's is exceptional!
Our little family does a lot of these 1-week stays at people's vacation homes, particularly to this area (Santa Ynez Valley), and I can honestly say this was probably the most perfect visit for our family (hubby, wife, and 3-year-old explorer) so far. First of all, if memory serves me correctly, this probably the least expensive option that I found in Santa Ynez, but that had nothing to do with the size and quality of the home. Upon my initial inquiry, Colin immediately got back to me and was very helpful and easygoing with the set process. It's a unique, private setting, yet still close and convenient to most areas of the Valley. Colin had the private gate open and was ready for us, and was just super, super nice right off the bat. He gave us a quick tour, and I can tell you it's a tremendous value for what you get. The 2 bedroom private residence is really clean, good sized, and very well appointed. It's a REAL 2-bedroom; not some scrunched up little converted version of one, and it's supplied with everything you need to have a smooth trip. The the grounds were a real highlight for us. We went swimming every day, and our little Tornado was just having so much fun terrorizing every nook and cranny of the 5-acre lot.
But what really made the property special were the hosts, Colin and Rosi. We've met a lot of nice owners over the years, but these two were the first ones that I personally felt like I wanted to go out of my way to talk to and hang out with. I tend to want to just be left alone on our trips, but every time I saw Colin and/or Rosi it just made me smile. Don't get me wrong; they're not hovering over you and invading your space or something. They are just really, really nice, sweet people. I can't imagine anyone NOT liking them. If we stay in Santa Ynez again, there is no doubt we will be staying with them (if it's available, of course).
My Husband, myself and our three boys absolutely loved it here! We loved the small cute town of Santa Ynez that was just a few minute down the road! Also the many other little towns close by! We loved that the kids had lots of room to run around the yard and ride their bikes! The house itself was bright, comfy and had everything we needed! The best thing about this house though were the owners Colin and Rosi! Right from the start, they were so kind, thoughtful and willing to help in every way! We would definetly go back to stay! We had such a great time, we wish we could have stayed longer!
If you are looking for a special place to relax and enjoy the Santa Ynez Valley then this is it---a beautiful 5 acre setting, quiet, clean and well-maintained 2 BR 1 BA accommodations, Pool/Jacuzzi/BBQ, and best of all terrific hosts in Colin and Rosi (their homemade apple pie was the best!). A perfect place to stay and visit nearby Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Solvang and all the great wineries, restaurants and shops. We will be back!!!
