Photos and Description of the Clermont-l'Herault vacation chateau / country house rental 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Sleeps 12.

The house was built about 150 years ago and was the original Maison de Maitre of the village of Belarga, owned by a prominent wine producing family. It has been renovated with modern kitchen/diner, comfortable living room with log burner whilst retaining lovely original features such as double interior doors, high ceilings and traditional stone staircase. The French doors from living room and kitchen open onto a tiled terrace which is shaded by 100 year old horse chestnut trees outdoor dining table and BBQ area. An opening from the terrace leads to a lawn and pool with further terrace and pergola for eating or sleeping! The house is situated in the village, which has a pretty square with shop, bar/restaurant and post office. Shady smaller squares perfect for hot summer nights. The main attraction of Belarga for most visitors is the fantastic position of the river Herault (a 3 minute walk from the house) perfect for swimming, sunbathing on the pebble beach (great for BBQ).

Belarga is situated on the river Herault; ideal for swimming, sunbathing, BBQ'S and fishing - just 3 mins walk from the house! Within a short drive through the heart of the Languedoc vineyards you will find Mediterranean beaches, medieval villages such as the stunningly pretty St Guilhem le desert, caves, dramatic gorges, mountains and rivers. The lively and cosmopolitan city of Montpellier is about 35mins drive with its cafes, theatre, opera, shopping etc, whilst the picturesque port towns of Meze and Marsaillan only 20 mins drive (stop to buy some oysters from the producers and a bottle of local picpoul de pinet!). Lac Salagou not far from us .(25 mins) is great for water sports, swimming and cycling. A day trip away is the walled city of Carcassonne, Nimes and just 100k from the Spanish border!

Notes: The house is perfect for relaxing family holidays with the proximity of the river and the large pool and shady terrace area (essential during the midday sun!). The kitchen/diner leads onto the terrace and is ideal for eating meals prepared in the well equipped kitchen or for BBQ. The kitchen has a double oven/rotisserie, large American fridge, dishwasher, w/machine and microwave. The large oak table in the kitchen seats up to 12. There are two bathrooms, the main one has a walk in shower and luxury free standing bath. The house is very cool in the summer as it benefits from the shade the trees on the terrace; in addition the high ceilings, tiled floors and original shutters on every window help to keep out the sometimes stifling heat.
