WORLD-CLASS, GENUINE TREEHOUSE IN VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK AREA

Special Offer! Genuine Luxury Treehouse Fall Special September 13 - October 11

Volcano Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-7)

Are there still some adventurous, Huck Finn type sparks alive in you? Then turn up your Jurassic Big Island experience another notch by staying in this unique, hand-made, GENUINE treehouse built 20 ft. up into 5 living, native Hawaiian ohia trees.

Look down onto the reaching fronds of amazing hapu'us (giant tree ferns) from huge windows and lanais all around, providing 360-degree birds-eye views of this secure, private 4 acre paradise. Witness the thrills of nature's interactions while nestled in homey comforts, including full-kitchen and bath, TV/DVD, music and more to modernize your Swiss Family Robinson experience.

Fall asleep while star-viewing from your comfy bed perched high up in the spacious loft. Some nights, even the volcano's red glow is visible.

A real-deal treehouse... located between two active volcanic vents... in Hawaii... you might never want to leave! But Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the charming artist colony of Volcano Village are nearby if you do.

Huck Finn says: For the creative, environmentally sensitive types, not the fussy. This truly 'green' structure was intentionally built in the most non-invasive manner, using high grade building wood and reconditioned windows, doors, and most everything else (including the 'kitchen sink!') And after 6 years of testing by various forces of nature, it's structural integrity has been proven to be sound and solid. And the trees are happy, too.

Fun Adventure in the Rainforest

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Skye's 2nd treehouse in Volcano for 4 nights in August of 2014. The place is amazing! Skye was very helpful when we arrived. He met us and took us around, telling us all about the place. He gave recommendations of places to see and things to do on the island. It's certainly not a 5 star resort with all the amenities but it's a lot of fun and different than your traditional hotel. Everything you need is there. It's super quiet and you can watch the stars at night from your bed or hear the rain fall. My daughter, age 7, loved sleeping up in her loft space and thought it was so fun to stay in a treehouse! The path that lights up when you come up at night is amazing. It's very isolated but it's only about 5-10 minute drive to a few restaurants, and the Volcano National Park. Great place to stay if you want to try something different!

The seclucsion and beauty of camping with all the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5
Hotel rooms come and go and we never remember them. Staying in the treehouse will be something we remember for the rest of our lives. It was magical! We loved going to sleep and listening to the rain fall on the roof - amazingly cozy and dry. We loved the view. Surprisingly, not too many bugs. There are wonderous surprises around every corner - from the artwork created by the owner, to the surfboard covering the shower!

If you are looking for Mai Tais and daily maid service, this is NOT the place for you. Certain conventiences, like a washer/dryer, would be nice... but, hey - it's a TREE house! We found the lack of cable t.v. and WiFi a bonus, as we wanted to get away from all that. Things we found wonderful - like winding staircases - would not be recommended for anyone who has trouble with their footing or any balancing issues. There is one master bed (with steps up to it) that is very comfortable. Both places for kids to sleep are in nooks (low overhead)- one is underneath the raised master bed, and the other is in a nook/crawlspace. This was great fun for our kids, but adults may or may not enjoy those tight quarters. We did not use the futon downstairs for sleeping. It is visually isolated from the master bed upstairs, but no closed doors in between (in case you are looking for real privacy.)

The number of windows and lush gardens all around were magical. We loved coming "home" at night and following the mini light strands down the winding path to our tree house.

Stay in a work of art that is more destination than accommodation!

  • 5 of 5
We could not have enjoyed our short stay at Skye's tree house more. We only wish we had spent more time there. Our first approach at dusk on the path of tiny lights through the forest was magical. Skye is a great host with a great passion for artistic expression that shows through in all the fascinating details and clever practical features of the house. I am an architect by trade and spent much of my time failing to capture the place in pictures. You really have to see it in 3D to appreciate it. There is no sacrifice of creature comforts either, with a warm shower and thoughtfully designed and stocked kitchen and entertainment area. My family of 4, including 2 teens, enjoyed watching Swiss Family Robinson (already there of course) and roasting marshmallows on the clever table fireplace. Skye's own excellent artwork decorates what few walls there are. The location just outside the volcano park is also convenient for exploring Hilo and Puna District. Great dining and necessities are just down the street in Volcano. We recommend Kilauea Lodge for dinner and Rainbow Moon for great fresh pastry and "Crazy Balls". I highly recommend a stay here, just set aside more time than we did to just enjoy the place!

AMAZING Experience!

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in the second treehouse and it was absolutely wonderful. It was clean, well-maintained and had all the comforts you could want including hot water and electricity, which I was amazed to have high up in the trees. The owner is very helpful and friendly and the location is close to Volcano Village and Volcano National Park (which was almost a moot point for me personally because I never wanted to leave the treehouse). HIGHLY recommended.

Close to volcano is only the begining!

  • 5 of 5
We wanted a place close to the volcano. My boyfriend is fascinated with geology, so I knew we would be spending a lot of time there. We did and I am glad!

The tree house is very much off the beaten path, quiet and private. Night critters that sing you to sleep and very little other noise. Felt very safe. Romantic and unique don't being to describe this cozy place.

If you want to cook, you will be able to, once you get down lighting the 2 propane burners. We made the majority of our meals and did just fine.

It gets cooler than I anticipated in the evenings. Was plenty warm inside, but bring something warm in case you want to go out in the evening.

Skye is hospitable and quite a character. He was kind enough to accept our invitation to dinner at the tree house one night. He has great stories once you get him started!

While we spent 4 days at the volcano, we still didn't see it all, or get enough. Can't wait to return to visit Madame Pele and the tree house.

Owner's Response: Aloha Alice,
I'm glad you mentioned to have a sweater for the cool evenings outside.
The fireplace keeps it warm and cozy inside and adds a lot of ambience, but the outdoors does get chilly at night. There are several good eateries in Volcano Village just 3 miles up the hill, but making yourself at home in the TreeHouse is also a great way to spend an evening. Thanks for that delicious meal and conversation. I'm convinced, TreeHouse lovers are all kindred spirits, and I enjoy chatting with guests because of their inevitable enthusiasm for nature and life.
Come back and visit again soon, Guys.

BEST PLACE EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5
The treehouse was without a doubt the coolest place my husband and I have ever stayed at. Incredibly comfortable with everything you could need. Skye is so helpful and friendly, and we really wish the we had been able to stay for longer. We were very sad to leave and cannot wait to return again. Perfect location to explore the park and close to some yummy restaurants.

We will be back!!!

Owner's Response: Aloha Kristen,
Thanks for your compliments. So many people make short reservations and then wish they could stay longer. I enjoy showing my creation off and having folks with TreeHouse enthusiasm get to live in it, if just for a couple nights.
Come again,
Skye

About 7 miles away is the Volcano Golf club

The Treehouse is near the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park, where you can view the glowing crater, it's about 7 minutes away. Also Kalapana, where the lava has been entering the ocean is a 40 minute drive. Hilo is where all the water sports are also the movies and museums and is about 30 minutes away. Another fun event is exploring old lava tubes, with a guide if you like.
