Overview

Bat Cave Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Chalet, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

When we first witnessed the mountain views at “Graybuck Lodge” we knew we had found something truly special. Now that our house renovations are complete, we are ready to share the warmth of our home and the majesty of our mountains with you.

“Graybuck Lodge' is centrally located in Bat Cave less than ten minutes from Chimney Rock Village and the recreational beach at Lake Lure and it is just slightly farther to Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Asheville. The rest of the western North Carolina vacation wonderland is an easy day trip away.

At more than 3,000 feet in elevation, “Graybuck Lodge” sits on the exposed granite of Shumont Mountain on the western rim of the gorge formed by tributaries of the Broad River. The 280-degree mountain views extend for over fifty miles from Hendersonville at one end to Mount Mitchell on the other. During the fall, the expanse of mountain colors is phenomenal and the higher elevation means the summers are cool and clear with crisp mornings even in August.

The house itself is a lovely three story rustic cedar Chalet which sits on a secure granite foundation. You enter the house into a warm pine accented Great Room and a full “tongue and grove” pine cathedral ceiling will greet you as you snuggle up in front of the stone fireplace. The big screen TV, sound system and DVD player will keep you entertained on the rare days you might want to stay inside.

Across from the great room you will find the dining area. Two tables seat up to twelve people without crowding anyone. You will find wineglasses and essentials in the antique bar in the corner of the room.

The full kitchen is adjacent to the dining area. You will find it complete with microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and a combination gas and electric range with double ovens. It even has a separate beverage refrigerator and a huge pantry.

The main floor master bedroom provides a king-sized bed and walk-in closet that give you plenty of room to spread out and the completely refurbished bathroom will give you the privacy you desire.

Downstairs you will find the second master bedroom with king-sized bed and a 180-degree view of the mountains. You access the recreation area through the master bedroom. Here you will find a second big screen TV and stone fireplace. The recreation area also contains high-end game table.

The second downstairs bedroom is the most secluded and quietest room in the house and should probably be reserved for the “sleeper” in your group. This room contains a queen-sized bed and also has a vanity that the ladies can use before a night out at the local restaurants.

The downstairs shares the largest bathroom in the house. The washer and dryer and a laundry folding station are built into this bathroom and help you keep the clutter of soiled clothing away from the more traveled areas of the home.

Upstairs over the great room is the “Sweetheart’s Loft”. Its lucky occupants will find it is paneled in warm pine and secluded from the rest of the house with a queen-sized bed and its own private bath. They won’t feel closed in because the glass window-wall opens the room to the mountain views without exposing its occupants to the rest of the vacationers. Fully isolated from the lower house with a glass window-wall, the loft will allow those couples who desire some “privacy” a personal spot to which they can retire and be assured that they will not be disturbed.

The front deck is where you and your companions will enjoy your early morning coffee and your late night glass of wine. From the deck you have an unobstructed 280-degree view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Your vantage point is located in the treetops about a 1,000 feet over the floor of the gorge. To the left, you look 25 miles to see Hendersonville on the horizon and to the right, at about the same distance, you see Clingman’s Dome and Mt. Mitchell. As you sit and enjoy the atmosphere, the goldfinches and hummingbirds will visit the feeders and entertain you all day.

THIS IS WHY YOU CAME TO THE MOUNTAINS!

We are proud of our home and the relaxing atmosphere you will find when you visit western North Carolina. and we have chosen to use our entire photo allowance to show you as many pictures of “Graybuck Lodge” as possible. Unfortunately that means that we have chosen not to show you any pictures of the many local attractions. With your rental you will receive a complete package related to handling We take pride in giving you the information you need, so we ate available by phone 24/7 if you have a problem.

The communities that surround us are truly beautiful and pictures of sites in Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Asheville and the mountain villages are available from many sources on-line as well as from our personal links.

We hope you come to visit us for a relaxing vacation at Graybuck Lodge and while you are here you will take time to review all of the fun in western North Carolina.

The Graves', Gray's, White's, and Hollis' Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

The view from Graybuck Lodge is beyond description!! It will live on in my memory as the most refreshing and invigorating sight I have ever seen. While the sleeping arrangements were not the best for the three children we had (3 years old and younger!), we still enjoyed being all together in one house for the first time in years.

We would recommend the Nature Preserve in Ashville, the town of Chimney Rock for shopping and eating, and the beach at Lake Lure.

Mountain Vacation

You could not find a more heavenly view! From inside the den or on the deck, the view is beautiful. It is very helpful to have a bedroom on the main floor and to have 3 bathrooms in the lodge.

Beautiful Views!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin for five days and wished for five more! The cabin was very nice and the views were so beautiful we did not want to leave. It had all the comforts of home from Dish TV to the outside grill. The beds and bedding were clean and in great condition making for a relaxing nights sleep. We were entertained by the little raccoons that came at nightfall to eat the birdseed on the deck. We highly recommend this cabin and will return in the fall!

The owner was very helpful with all the info. We had a wonderful time and the view is unbelievable. However, cleanliness was an issue. There was a bag of open cat litter on the front porch. The refrigerators

were empty, but not wipe clean from spills, along with the dish drainer. The stove top was greasy. Also, the bathrooms needed a better cleaning. Base on the view I would recommend, but not on the cleanliness of the house. Also the showers did not have very hot water.

Owner's Response: Dear Lucy, I'm sorry to hear that our home was not as clean as you would have liked. We have just changed services and I will be using your review as a training opportunity with the new crew. Unfortunately, The "not so hot" water is my fault. I turned it lower during the period when no one was there and I must have failed to increase the temp back to the proper level. Thank you for your comment, Tom Eddins

WOW !!

  • 5 of 5

Not sure where to start, because our visit to Graybuck Lodge was wonderful !!!

I will start at the top, the owners were awesome !! They were readily available for any questions or issues that may have arose and had them answered or resolveld very quickly !!! The "View"= AMAZING ! We arrived a little after dark so we could only see the lights scattered throughout the mountain sides, but when we awoke WOW what a view and the sunset, I just SMH at the beauty !! We had a large crowd ranging from age 1 to 73 and all enjoyed theirself with things to do while in the cabin from bingo to foosball, cards or puzzles to ping pong, even with a crowd this cabin is spacious . Or you could just relax on either deck or inside the living area on the main level or gameroom downtairs and enjoy the view. It was equipped with everything that you would have at your own home, from band aids to ziplock bags, laundry detergent to Lawry's seasoning salt .It is located within 10-15 minutes to a major grocery store, that is a big plus. We enjoyed seeing a little bit of wildlife while there as well, deer, rabbits, racoons(not so much they ate a hole in the trash can lid to get to the trash) a fox, squirrels, and flying sqirrels. The flying squirrels kept us entertained one night as we sat on the deck, they would run along the deck rail to the bird feeder, get their fill and jump off about 30' to 40' down the mountainside to a tree and jump from tree to tree back up the mountain and do it again. The driveway is a bit steep is the only negative but really not that bad. To sum it up this is a great property with great owners and a great location !! My family really enjoyed our vacation at the Graybuck lodge !!!! We would definetly recomend this cabin to others and look forward to a return trip !!!

Unbelievable views

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing time at this cabin. The views are spectacular. The amenities were great and we had everything we needed. We loved the fact that we didn't need to take the basics with us. We will definitely go back for a stay and will recommend it to friends.
