All you need to bring is your clothes and your food - everything else is at the house: linens, cookware, utensils, towels, etc. And some things you might not have expected: two sets of golf clubs, binoculars, and a telescope!
Birdwatching will result in seeing bald eagles, oregon junkos, American Crows, Golden Finches, Northern Flickers, and a variety of seagulls.
Deer drop by often on the property, and there have been many sightings of otters, Dall's porpoises, harbor seals, and yes, sometimes the resident Orcas pay us a visit.
Our home is only 12 miles from Friday Harbor, where the ferry lands. There are plenty of opportunities on San Juan Island to visit historic landmarks, go shopping, stroll around museums, attend a live theater performance, listen to music, hike grasslands or mountains, go fishing in fresh water or salt, walk on a beach, ride a horse, participate in a zip line, attend a farmers' market, learn about the island, explore thrift stores, lose yourself in a bookstore, chat with the friendly locals, sail into the sunset, eat like royalty, commune with nature and sleep like a baby.
Our home is available for rental year round - stay for four nights, or a week, or a month or a season -
This is a family operation, and this is our only home used for vacation rental. We work hard to keep it clean, lovely and welcoming for you!

San Juan Island has been the destination for vacationers since the 1880's, and was the same for us as our family grew.
Our island home is designed to surround its occupants with comfort and beauty. It is the place to relax and enjoy nature and serenity.
My group of friends uses VRBO about 4-5 times per year and this house was one of the best for a number of reasons. The house itself was very clean, in good working order, with a very open plan to accommodate our larger group of 8 adults comfortably. The only drawback was the 2nd floor only has only twin beds. Outside, the deck wrapped the house with a table and plenty of seating to enjoy the amazing view of the Channel. In all our San Juan Island trips (Orcas/San Juan), this view was the best! On the deck, the hot tub was hands down the cleanest and best working of any in our travels through VRBO. From the house, we beached our kayaks/SUPs about a 1/4 mile away. This spot offered a sensational view of the sunset. Roche Harbor was a short drive, but a longer walk than past trips. San Juan Island offers so many fantastic things to do. Every time we stay near Roche Harbor, the only issue is not having enough time. This house offered our group a near perfect place to stay to enjoy the island.
Before the trip, the property manager was very nice, easy to deal with, and rather accommodating. We would highly recommend this vacation house!
Sunrise Sunset House is beautiful and was the perfect location for our family group vacation! The setting is pretty and private, with a fabulous view of Spieden Channel and plenty of wildlife viewing. The home was clean and inviting, with all the amenities that a group could want and plenty of space to spread out. We enjoyed biking, hiking, kayaking and whale watching during our time on the island. The seafood and fresh produce available on the island was outstanding, too! The property manager was friendly and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time at the house. We would highly recommend this vacation and hope that we can return again!
The home's location is ideal! The large back deck afforded an expansive view of Spieden Channel. Large patio table and plenty of chairs, along with a great hot tub! Roche Harbor is minutes away, and it's a bucolic harbor with small shops and a great restaurant/bar that sits on the harbor. t's a short drive to Friday Harbor for groceries, restaurants and more activity and action. There is plenty of exploring to do on the island, with state and national parks, a gorgeous lavender farm and local wine tasting. We had great experiences with a whale watching trip (watched a pod of Orcas for over an hour), and a kayak trip (explored the coastline and saw many birds and seals). Our guides were quite knowledgeable about the marine life and natural surroundings. We loved the house and the island, and would definitely consider another stay next summer.
We had a wonderful stay, enjoyed the fantastic views. We walked to the sculpture garden nearby (if you're into sculpture, its fantastic), kayaked from the beach next door, and did some biking. It's a quiet end of the island, perfect for us. The house looks out on a channel, not unlike Active Pass. The owners gave us some great food recommendations, including the Fish Market in town. Highly recommended!
Let us know what you like to do, and we will offer recommendations for you: whale watching, museum strolling, art galleries, live theater, the best local restaurants, prime beaches, scenic drives, awesome hikes, community activities, bookstores, thrift stores, musical events, farmers' markets....we will even tell you where islanders keep their alpacas (and their camels)!
Take advantage of our experience of living and loving the island and fill your trip seeing the places only the natives know about!
