Longboat Key is known for it's pristine and private beaches. The island is approximately 11 miles long and less than a mile wide in places. A walk from the bay to the beach takes 5 minutes! Our house is on a canal near the bay.
Our home is perfect for a large family, family gathering or two families that want to travel together AND remain friends. Four of the bedrooms have full bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have enough sleeping space for 4 kids each! (Yes, let them bring their friends.) The guest bedroom is close to the kids, but affords enough privacy that you won't be bothered. There is a fourth bedroom on the main floor with a full bed. The master suite, is on the 3rd floor, tucked away all to itself. The 400 sq ft. master suite overlooks the bay. The bathroom has granite countertops, a separate marble shower and an over-sized tub.
The kitchen is completely stocked for the chef. Large pots, pans and cooking utensils galore. The countertops are granite and the refrigerator is stainless steel. There is a dining area right off the kitchen and on an outside veranda. We have a separate TV room that is extremely large. You can travel with friends, but still find space to spend time alone.
Longboat is an exclusive island off the coast of Florida near Sarasota. Sarasota is a small city with all the amenities you could ever want on vacation. Movies, theater, museums, antique stores and five star restaurants. Everything is near Longboat. Our beach is isolated and exclusive, but if you have teens, or want a busy beachfront, Bradenton Beach is just 5 minutes from our home. You just travel across the bridge to find the crowds; come back onto Longboat when you want an isolated beach. The best of both worlds are available to you!
We have bikes, tennis racquets, buckets and boogie boards for the beach and a closet FULL of board games and kids toys. Disney and the Central Florida theme parks are just 2 hours away. Busch Gardens and Tampa are 1 hour north.
This was our second year renting this home. We have previously rented 3 others on the north end of Longboat Key, and this is by far the nicest! The master suite in the tower is gorgeous. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the home was spotless when we arrived. The owners could not have been more solicitous of our comfort, even purchasing an ATT signal booster for our cell service. The kids loved the pinball machine and the adults the exercise machine. We also enjoyed the use of the kayaks and bicycles. This is a home we would be happy to return to every year.
We stayed at the house for a week during March 2014. We had my wife three children (adults) and my daughter in-law and two grandchildren. The house was perfect. Of course it always helps to have nice weather which we did. The house is well maintained on one of the finger streets on the north end of the island on the bay side. The kitchen is well laid out and reasonably equipped. We did a lot of cooking. There were even extras like spices and cooking oils available if needed. There is a master bedroom, and bath suite on the top floor. It is a lovely room with a comfortable bed and a nice view of the canal and the pool. The pool is heated and easy to control. The other bedrooms were also well laid out with clean modern baths. The neighbors are all friendly and have known the owners for years and seem very comfortable with guests staying in the house. The maintenance person is available and very helpful.
The beach is about a ten minute walk. There are not many beach access points on Longboat Key but this is by one of them. You can park by the church and there always appeared to be spaces available but we ended up always walking. The beach is beautiful and fairly private. If you want the crowds go north ten minutes just over the bridge to Coquina Beach in Bradenton. It is a beautiful beach and you can get ice-cream and even a beer. Further north is more of what you would expect of a beach town, little shops, restaurants, pizza. Going south you are headed towards Sarasota and St. Armand’s Circle. It has more upscale shops and restaurants. Also think about DryDock on Longboat Key. Make reservations at least a week in advance.
Go out for a kayak trip. You will see dolphins, egrets and Great Blue Herons. We had our own personal Great Blue Heron that hung out at the pool and an egret that hung around also. You can rent a boat fairly close by but in the end we did not have enough time. It is about an hour to Busch Gardens in Tampa. Try not to leave the island after 3:00 PM. The traffic is very heavy. So stay near the house if you can and enjoy. The owner is terrific to deal with and very prompt in answering all our questions.
In sum it is a terrific place to stay.
My family and I recently stayed at this house the end of March 2013. There is plenty of room in the house for many guest to stay comfortably. All rooms, except one, have a bathroom attached and were great for our family to all feel that we had our own space. Buddy was great to work with before our trip. He quickly responded to emails. The house has all of the supplies you could need. There were many bikes to use and also kayaks. The highlight of our trip was taking the double kayak out with my husband and 4 year old daughter. Four dolphins were swimming right in front of us! The only problem was the pool heater not working because of the new air conditioner. The handy man was out right away and, in the end, it was resolved. For the inconvenience, Buddy waived the cleaning fee. We would definitely stay at this house again if in LBK. Thank you to Buddy for making it easy for our family have a place to get together!
I have been lucky enough to stay in this beautiful home for three years in a row! All I can say is WOW!!
The house was even more beautiful than the pictures...right on the canal, where at low tide, you could
use the Padle Boat that was provided to venture out to the nearest sandbar and see just what treasures could be found... There were starfish, crabs, and sea anemones just to name a few.
The owners kindly left information about local places to eat and things to do... The beach was very
close and usually very private. and absolutely beautiful! You could go into town where there were many quaint shops and fun places to eat. Sometmes it was hard to decide just what to do, lay out by the pool, go to the beach or shop till you drop!
I would totally recommend this as a vacation destination to anyone and everyone!!! The owners provided everything anyone could need for a wonderful stay...and there is a caretaker nearby if needed.
I came across a visitor's log which contained many entrys where wonderful memories were made. So, what are you waiting for?! Go and make some wonderful memories of your own!

The family and myself came down once more to paradise. We stay at this home on Long Boat Key, after being referred to it by a friend, once or twice a year and have so for many years. It's a great place for the family to spread out, lots of room. Many hours spent sitting around the pool in the back yard enjoying the privacy the landscaping offers at pool side. Kids love having access to the salt water just beyond the pool deck, fishing, swimming and kayaking. Short car or bike ride to the beach, restaurants, shopping. Fun times
To all future renters, please call me before proceeding. I recently spent 9 long days in this home. My family has been going to Longboat for 36 years and we know the island quite well. We typically will stay at Casa Del Mar, but on this trip we all wanted to be together, as we were celebrating our parent's 50th Anniversary. Sadly, this home is completely UNrentable.
For starters, upon our arrival, we spent 3 hours cleaning tables, chairs, deck and windows as they were completely disgusting. Looked like they had not been cleaned in years - terrible 1st impression. The clutter and disorganization in this home was unbelievable. The oven was nasty with food in it, so we had to clean it ourselves before we used. The home owner left food in the refrigerator and freezer. The cabinets were full of opened food. Of course, he said we could use it if we like (no lie). Glasses, utensils, dishes, pots and pans could not be used until we cleaned them. The dressers, drawers and closets were full of miscellaneous papers, scraps, toys and clothes. Now with this all being said, I did contact him a few days into our stay and he did give me an option to leave and vacate the property. Sadly, I did not take him up on this and stuck it out.
Now the fun begins when the AC went out. Have you ever been in Florida in August with 95% humidity? The house got to 90 degrees. The homeowner did contact me to tell me an AC guy would come out the next day as it was already evening. Not sure why he could not have come out immediately. The best part is that the homeowner did not trust me as he had his handyman come out before the AC guy was called to verify it was indeed not working. Nearly 24 hours later, the AC was back and working, but it took an additional full day to get the house back to normal temperature.
Finally, upon our departure I did confront the homeowner as I felt it was extremely fair to ask for a rent reduction for this misrepresented home. He firmly stated no, thus I owe it to all future renters to have told my story. As I stated, we have been going to Longboat Key for 36 years, we have rented many places, my folks have a home on the Key and they have had rental properties in the past, and this home was pathetic. Please call me as I will be happy to discuss my thoughts on the home.
