The Region: The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) takes its name from its light sand, and is the western (Atlantic) coastline of Andalusia, between the Portuguese border and Tarifa, encompassing the Spanish provinces of Huelva, the more westerly, and Cadiz, where Villa Innisfree lies. This coastline and its hinterland are largely an unknown jewel, sometimes referred to as the Spanish Algarve or Secret Spain. Moving inland, miles of unspoilt sandy beach and dunes give way to authentically Andalusian towns and villages. This is the west of Spain's most colourful region, offering all the authentic attractions, including bullfights, flamenco, whitewashed hilltop villages, fiestas, horses, guitars and ancient traditions, many of them inextricable from their Moorish origins, and Moorish architecture and art. Attractions: Chiclana, the birthplace of many famous bullfighters, has a bullring and bullfighting museum. The towns of the ”sherry triangle,” Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santa Maria, are close by, as are Cadiz, the oldest city in western Europe, and Seville,Spain's fourth largest city and the cradle of flamenco. Sanlucar is the gateway to the Donana National Park, Europe's largest nature reserve, a stopover between Europe and Africa for millions of migrating bird colonies, and home to numerous wildlife species. Sanlucar also stages horse races on the beach during August. Every town has its own special sherries or wines, and a particular fish or seafood delicacy. The old towns of Medina Sidonia and Vejer de la Frontera are easily reached, as are Conil, Tarifa and Algeciras. Nelson's Cape Trafalgar can be reached from Conil and Vejer. Tarifa has become famous as a centre for windsurfing, and a ferry service links both it and Algeciras to Tangier, in Morrocco.

Activities: The climate allows golf to be played all year round .The endless coastline accommodates a wide range of seaborne and underwater activities, including windsurfing and waterskiing. Suppliers of motorbikes, scooters and quad bikes abound. Jerez has a May Horse Show, and an equestrian school and museum, and the region has ample horse riding and tuition outlets. For a family day out, there is an Aqualand theme park, near El Puerto de Santa Maria . The towns of the sherry triangle, and many others, have a plethora of wineries and bodegas to visit. Both Cadiz and Jerez offer camara oscura displays, giving a 360 degree tour of their city in real time. Flamenco is everywhere, whether in set festivals or impromptu performances. There are boat trips from Sanlucar into the Donana National Park, and from Tarifa and Gibraltar to see the high concentration of whales (many species) and dolphins (three species)which frequent the area where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet.

Golf: The climate makes it possible to play golf all year round. The province of Cadiz alone has seventeen courses from which to choose, and the selection of several of these to host prestigious tournaments has led to worldwide recognition of Cadiz as one of the best golfing holiday destinations in Europe. The Valderrama Golf Club, which hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and nine consecutive Volvo Masters tournaments, has been voted Europe's best course by the world's golf press on several occasions.The courses closest to Villa Innisfree are the Campano Golf Club, the Golf Melia Sancti-Petri and the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club, where the course was designed by Spain's first major golf star, Severiano Ballesteros.
