TWO APARTMENTS IN THE MOUNTAINOUS VALLEY OF THE WATERFALLS

We spent a New Years vacation in the Lauterbrunnen valley. We are a family of four and we leased both apartments, Breithorn and Grosshorn, for the majority of the stay and the last night all together in the Breithorn. The location is excellent. The apartments were very clean. Town was a mob scene and staying outside of town provide us beauty and peace. The owners are fabulous hosts and they reside on the top two floors of the chalet. They provided all the information needed before arriving including contact information and directions. Wilf and Wendy responded quickly and completely to our questions and let us know when the deposit was received. If you have a car, there is parking and if not, the bus literal stops right outside of the home. I was concerned about the potential noise, but there was none! The apartments are completely outfitted and we ate at least one meal a day using the kitchen. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are roomy. Fresh milk, from the cow!, is available 24 hours per day at a farm in a vending machine less than a kilometer away. There also is a small barn that houses their goats. The location is a few minutes by walking, free bus or car to Lauterbrunnen or to the base of the cable car to Murren and the Schilthorn. We skied Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg, and Murren while we were there. A wine and cheese shop, grocery store, and a bakery with fresh bread and sweets are all located in Lauterbrunnen. Also, if you have the opportunity to purchase any of Wendy's homemade jams, please do. These jams are absolutely delicious and a wonderful treat. We highly recommend the Breithorn and Grosshorn for the value, strong customer service, location, and quality of the lodging. Thanks to Wilf and Wendy for their hospitality. We will be back.

Traveled to Lauterbrunnen with my husband and 3 children (ages 10,8,6). Wilf was waiting for us on arrival and gave us a detailed run down of the apartment and surrounding areas. The apartment was spotless and provided sufficient room for the 5 of us. The bus stops right in front of the door and arrives about every 30 minutes to travel into town. Very peaceful... no traffic, horns, trains, etc. Wendy gave us good advice on a fun outing with the kids and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The area is stunning and a true escape from our busy lives in Florida.

This was our first time in Switzerland and in the Jungfrau region. With Charet Barli in-between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg this provided us the perfect base for walking, cycling and exploring the local scenery. Just a ten minute walk or one stop on the bus (which stops outside the chalet) to the awe inspiring Trummelbach falls.

The chalet is only ten minutes away from Lauterbrunnen by bus and from there you can catch a scenic train up the mountain (and inside it) to the Jungfraujoch tunneling through the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountians. The views and the snow at the top (even in Summer) are fantastic.

For another expereince try the Schilthorn via the cable car from Stechelberg (20 minute walk from Chalet Barli). At the top you can re-live the James Bond movie "On Her Majestys Service" - be sure to borrow the DVD from Wilf and Wendy after you have visited this fantastic location.

A local shop at the campsite next store provides you with easy access to groceries and other essentials or you can shop in Lauterbrunnen at the local Coop store which is reasonably priced.

We stayed in the Breithorn apartment which caters for four people. It was clean, spacious and provided everything we needed for our stay. On arrival we were warmly greated by Wilf and Wendy who took us through all the facilities and explained local attractions. The main bedroom (king sized bed) was very comfortable and had an amazing view of the valley side rock face. The lounge and dining area had fantastic views to the mountain range in the distance (including Breithorn itself). Kitchen and bathroom were clean and functional. The other bed(s) where a fold-down affair in the lounge which is inconspicuous during the day and a convertible settee. (being only two in the party we didn't use these but believe it would be adequate for another couple)

With the regular bus service passing every half hour and stopping outside the door (literally) travelling to the chalet and up and down the valley during our stay was very easy.Access to the trains at Lauterbrunnen and the Cable Cars at Stechelberg meant we could easily get to the ski resorts of Wengen and Murren for walks on the well marked and defined walking paths.We could also start walking straight from the apartment either on the road or the quiet tracks that lead in either direction in the Lauterbruunen valley

If you want a perfect base for a relaxing holiday then this is it!
