Winter Details:
The Jungfrau region is superb for all types of winter sports activity, and Chalet Bärli is perfectly situated for you to take advantage of this. Easy and quick transport from the front door takes you to the centres of Wengen and Murren from where you have access to more than 44 railways, cable cars and ski lifts, taking you to over 213 kilometres of pistes, more than 100 kilometres of well-prepared walking paths, 50 kilometres of sledging runs and 30 kilometres of cross-country skiing paths (one of which passes through our meadow). The winter sports pass gives you unlimited travel in the area from our door, whatever you do. There is also a walking and sledging pass allowing you access to everything except ski lifts. Open-air ice rinks can be enjoyed in Murren, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.
Summer Details:
The area around Chalet Bärli provides excellent walking to suit all tastes : woodland, riverside, meadow and mountain. You can start from our front door, or take transport to other areas. Within easy reach is the Schynige Platte Alpine Garden, worth a visit in itself, but also the start of a superb ridge walk to Grindlewald. The lakes of Brienz and Thun are at nearby Interlaken, their wonderful paddle steamers will take you to attractive old places such as Brienz and its wood carvers; Thun and Spiez; more mountain railways; and the living museum of Ballenberg which gives an open-air survey of Switzerland on one site. Sports such as para- and hang-gliding, mountain biking, river rafting, wind surfing, sailing and horse riding are all easily available. Travel passes can be obtained locally, making a visit at this time of year extremely good value.
General Details:
Good restaurants are within easy reach at Lauterbrunnen, Stechelberg, Murren and Wengen, providing a splendid sampling of Swiss food, one of the essential components of any Swiss holiday. The cable car to the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn with its superb views, and the railway to the Jungfraujoch (the highest in Europe) are open most of the year. The rail services from the major airports keep the same times throughout the year, seven days a week, and the local roads for public transport are kept open, whatever the weather.
Ski:
Good quality skiing, snowboarding and sledging can be had all around us. The Schilthorn black runs start at 2970 metres at the top of the highest winter sports arena in the Bernese Oberland; there is the longest sledge run in the world at 15 kilometres; and there is the Schreckfield Superpipe, one of the world's biggest halfpipes. There are good children's slopes at Wengen, with a creche. A wide range of pistes to suit all abilities can be found everywhere. Ski and snowboard schools are located at Wengen and Murren, providing individual and group tuition for all levels and most languages, including English, and some English instructors.
