I grew up in a Georgia city, but loved visting my grandparents in their rural home. 15+ years ago I married a West Virinia native, yes a 'hillbilly' who's roots were firmly planted in the mountains of Pocahontas County. We decided to create lodging to share this beautiful playground with other folks. There's always something to do, but it is also a great place to relax and get away from the burdens of the world. This year we have added customized retreats for guests who need a little extra. Retreat offerings include organic garden veggies, fresh country eggs, yoga, nature walks. Massage services can be arranged.
Gayle purchased this cottage in 2005
We built our vacation rentals to share our property with other people.
Because of it's location, you have easy access to the lodge, constant privacy in open space, clear view of the valley and the mountain. Wildlife wander past so viewing from inside the cottage is a plus. Walking trails are abundant. Access to Monongahela is a step away from the property. The property is located within easy travel to all of the points of interest in Pocahontas County.
This place is great for the area, close to the mountain and 1/2 the price with 4 times the room. The only down side is the smell of the well water but it is typical of places with well water. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Great place for watching wildlife and for your own animals. We had two dogs that really enjoyed the space. The house does have an electric fence, but it is very easy to turn off while your dogs are outside roaming around. The hot tub is a great addition and the fire pit was a nice way to spend the evening. There is one king size bed, one queen and one full. You can also get an internet connection, which is nice since I didn't have any cell service in the area. The owner also worked with us to allow a late check out. Overall great experience and I would recommend to others.
We enjoyed our stay here and the house was clean and comfortable. The hot tub was great after a day of riding. The house sits up on a hill with great views of the surrounding mountains. We had a fire in the fire pit a few nights and sat there relaxing and star gazing. How peaceful it was! I had specifically asked if the long gravel driveway would pose a problem for our motorcycles and it did not. The house does not have air conditioning, but the ceiling fans kept us cool enough. We had fun trying to communicate with the cows that were in the pasture surrounding the house. Overall, a great experience!
While we were unloading our car upon arrival at the property, one of our dogs was electrocuted by an electrified fence that was within six feet of the drive way. The owners had not told us about the fence. They knew we had dogs as we had told them about them and had paid an extra pet fee. We also had two children with us. When we spoke to the owner his response was "well I bet your dog won't ever do that again." Would his response be the same if a child was electrocuted? Upon entering the house we were struck by the heat (it had to be around 95 degrees). We attempted to adjust the thermostat to get air conditioning on but nothing happened. When we spoke with the owner he said the property did not have air conditioning but the property listing clearly states that the property is air conditioned. We would never have booked a house to stay at in August if we knew that it didn't have air conditioning. These two facts alone would have made me give the property a poor rating but there is more. We had continual issues with the toilets. From the first day one of the toilets was stopped up. The second to last day the second toilet became totally unusable (the other one only could be used for urinating). We called the owner and he said he would be out that evening but he never showed up (he had come out once earlier in the week to unstop the other toilet which partially fixed it). We also had issues with the washing machine which leaked considerably on any temperature other than cold water. We have rented other houses through this website and they have always been good or excellent. This house was suppose to be air conditioned and pet friendly. Clearly, it was not. I would never have rented the property if the listing had been honest and feel that I should be reimbursed part of my payment in compensation.
This location is private with a very nice view. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. Would recommend this place to all who want to visit WV.
My elderly parents, husband and dog bullet stayed at the well kept 3 bedroom cabin for a wonderful week of rest, relaxation and hiking. Monongahela National Forest hiking trails where within 10 miles of this cabin.
The hot tub is perfect after a day of hiking, views were great, and no other house/building within cabin site. Off season dining was really good at the Fiddle Head Restuarant at the entrance of Snow Shoe just 6 miles away. Looking forward to returning to this rental site.
