Photos and Description of the Front Royal vacation farmhouse rental 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s) - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 6-8)

Miriam's House at Jordan River Farm is the main house on a 328 acre green estate in scenic Rappahannock County, approximately 70 miles west of Washington, D.C. The house, parts of which date back to the Colonial Period, features 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room with two sofas, and a full kitchen including dinnerware. There is a two-tiered patio and 16 foot gazebo overlooking a one acre pond brimming over with bass, blue gill and catfish, and breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pets welcome! We now have a Contour Paddle Boat! We also have frontage on a 5 acre lake with excellent fishing there as well. We were the first organic farm in the state. No toxic chemicals since 1971. Join us in our environmental vision and experience a moment of peace at The Jordan River Farm. C. L. 'Cory' Koral (rhymes with 'moral'), owner. Location: Virginia < USA

Car: necessary
We are in the heart of Virginia wine and hunt country with many wineries and riding events within a few minutes drive of the farm. Rappahannock County is also host to many fine restaurants including the world famous Inn at Little Washington. We are only a 20 minute drive from Skyline Drive, near Front Royal, Virginia, and only a 45 minute drive from the nearest DC subway station, Vienna Metro. Jordan River Farm is about a mile across and borders on other large estates, so if you would like to hike to the Jordan River or fish the 5 acre back lake, please ask for a brief car tour and map or you could get lost! Much of the far end of the farm is in a wild and natural state, so staying here is like having your own private state park. Please keep your pets on a leash or you could easily lose them!

Good Family Vacation

Mushu's Mom Grand Rapids, MI
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My family meets each year for Christmas in July. This year we chose Miriam's House as our meeting place. It was a great place to relax and really enjoy nature. We wanted the feel of camping with the luxuries of nice beds, a kitchen, plenty of hot water for showers, a place to do laundry, and a way to escape the bugs... so that the family (with its various ages/abilities) would all feel comfortable. We found all that here. We cooked all but one supper in the fire pit, so the kids had the feel of camping. Grandpa fished with the kids in the pond just steps away from the house. We could sit on the porch and watch deer in the yard. The house never ran out of hot water, even when we all showered one after the other. The kitchen was stocked fairly well for a vacation home. We could sit around the table at night playing games and no bugs swarmed around us. Cory (the owner) was extremely helpful and attentive to any needs we had. We were close enough to MANY activities. We went tubing on the river, hiking and playing in the river at the state park, hiking on various level trails in Shennandoah National Park, to Lurray Caverns, a winery, etc. If you can't find something to do here, you're not looking! We loved the natural setting.
Owner's Response: Miriam's House is absolutely the best venue for families. All ages can enjoy the great outdoors with all the comforts of home for less than what you'd pay for hotel accommodations, and being in a very remote and secluded area, a lot more privacy. Having been chemical free and wildlife friendly for so many years, there are many opportunities to observe animals in their natural habitat. One guest made a long list of all the birds he observed while here, and deer are frequently seen near the house. Our pond is becoming overstocked with fish, so bring your fishing poles!
Miriam's House is owner managed, which means I am close by and can respond to any problems or needs your clan may have. When the paddleboat needed repair, I was able to obtain a substitute within an hour of their request. I'm pretty familiar with all of the activities in the area, such as golfing, horseback riding, antiquing, winery tours and rock climbing, but there are always new requests I'm researching.
In the Fall, there is a large influx of folks to the Front Royal/Skyline Drive area for the annual Festival of Leaves. The farm is within view of the Skyline Drive and offers the best views without the crowds.
My late wife, Miriam, and I knocked ourselves out as organic farmers for over 20 years, and have always wanted to share our beautiful surroundings with others. I know Miriam would be very glad to see how many people have now enjoyed our very special place.

Weekend Retreat

weknder Manassas, Virginia, USA
Review Submitted: May 21, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We found the house to be a throw back in time and enjoyed being the guests in an era of a century gone by with the amenities of today. The charm of the smell of the old wood, the creaks of the old, the songs of the birds, the relaxing and peaceful quiet of the country all made our weekend at the Jordan River Farm a treat. The proprietor, Cory, was very hospitable and accommodating. The house was very well stocked and we did not want for anything.

Fantastic Stay at Miriam's House

Commenter Clifton, New Jersey, USA
Review Submitted: January 8, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Jordan River Farm was exactly what we were looking for with acres of rolling hills to hike with our dogs and child. Each time we came upon a new meadow or waterfront, it was more beautiful than the last. We loved seeing and hearing many different types of birds and other beautiful animals under the huge sky. The house was spacious and charming, we look forward to returning. Thanks, Cory!
