If you don't want to drive forever to get to one place after another, this is your solution. You are right in the middle of everything you come to the mountains for. Our cabin is located between Robbinsville and Bryson City. It's secluded, easy to get to, has a beautiful view... a 10 out of 10.., and offers you close proximity to the national park, Appalachian Trail, and other marvels of nature. This area is great, because you do not have to drive forever to get to mountain highlights; it's all close by. The cabin is well-maintained, completely equipped, and we even have high speed internet to keep in touch with the rest of the world. There's a wood burning fireplace, great room, two comfy bedrooms and two complete baths. Outside, you'll find a fire pit, hammock, deck, and patio furnishings. It's fabulous to sit on the deck and take in the view or lounge in the hammock with a good book amid the pristine surroundings. There are lots of places nearby to hike, and about a mile away you'll find the Stecoah Center, where you will find music venues, art, dining, and more. You'll have everything you need; just bring your hiking boots, pj's and groceries.

We aren't completely discovered yet, and we hope it stays that way for awhile. This area is full of what most people come to the mountains for. You can enjoy glorious vistas, wonderful hikes, great fishing, and lots of wildlife. There are country roads to explore, lots of old barns to photograph, and amazing have your camera ready. There are two fabulous lakes...Fontana and Santeetlah. Imagine a pontoon boat on a pristine mountain lake. Imagine catching a rainbow trout or walleye for dinner. This area of the Smokies is amazing. It's truly what people come to the mountains for. Adventure is around the corner. whitewater rafting, tubing at Deep Creek, mountain biking at Tsali, challenging the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, climbing the Appalachian Trail or visiting virgin a forest at Joyce Kilmer. Location? You have it!

Things You Can Do: You can hike right along the Appalachian Trail; it's a few minutes down the road. You can go whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, Ocoee, Cheoah and more. You can ride a horse along the Fontana Lake region. You can visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, or tube at Deep Creek. There are waterfalls to view, and the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Cherohala Skyline are both close by. Enjoy the virgin forest at Joyce Kilmer. See Cades Cove or drive down the Meadow Road to peek in the windows of log cabins of old. The Great Smokies Railroad is right in Bryson City. Hop aboard! Try a little fly fishing in the numerous streams. Rent a pontoon boat and relax on Lake Santeetlah. Drive along mountains roads to find artist galleries, visit an auction right out of the fifties, or discover a hidden little out-of-the-way spot all your own for a picnic in paradise. Saturday night? Go for some mountain music at the Stecoah Center. What a great vacation! You'll come back!

About Melanie

Bill is a retired engineer, and I'm a retired teacher. We now live in the Smokies as much as we can. We love hikes, whitewater, growing crops, and all sorts of travel.

Melanie purchased this chalet in 1998

Lake Fontana and Fontana Dam

Lake Santeetlah

Tsali Mountain Bike Trail

Fantastic dirt bike track for kids

What makes this chalet unique

We are in the middle of Mother Nature but close enough to the things we need to make life easy. We can just walk out the door and explore, hike, pick berries, etc. It's great!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at your place three times now. According to the Theory of Possession, your cabin belongs to me! I love it. I love the Area. I love the spiritual happiness I feel when I'm here.

Owner's Response: Thanks! I am so happy you are coming back. Lots of people do because of the location. I do not know how many people decide to go to the Smokies and end up in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinberg with traffic, silly shows, and too many people. To me, the mountains should be enough - Mother Nature at her best and more things to see and do than you have time for. Thanks for your review!!!! Melanie

Perfect family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

One of our favorite family vacations! My husband and I had a four and six year old at the time and we had a magical time! The house was spacious for the four of us and had everything we needed. Melanie was super helpful and the location was great, central to tons of activities but secluded enough to really feel like we were in the mountains away from it all. The view was great! It was everything we were looking for. Would highly recommend this property!

First of all, we have stayed in a few different cabins over the years. Some very nice cabins but without the view and some great views but not the nicest of cabins. Well, this one had both. WOW! That's all we could say to each other when we first arrived. The location was perfect also. We had a wonderful time, hiking and exploring the area. Joyce Kilmer Park is an easy hike, our 74 year old mama had no problem. Beautiful.

Melanie has a wonderful, and comical review list of area attractions and eateries. We found this to be very helpful. Melanie and Bill, y'all can go ahead and pencil us in for the same time next year. (If not before) Loved it!!

Peaceful, Beautiful and Worry-free

What a beautiful place to stay for a vacation!

The view is gorgeous, whether you're inside or out...

The cabin was very comfortable and had everything one could want or need for a week's getaway. It was neat, clean, and nicely furnished, with lots of personal touches everywhere.

The owners are very friendly and were helpful from the day I first inquired about the cabin. Melanie has personalized everything with her wonderful sense of humor!

I really enjoyed being close to so many hiking trails (there is an access point to the Appalachian trail less than 10 minutes' drive away).

This truly was a pleasure!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your terrific review. I love the Smokies and want everyone else to experience the awesome Appalachians; they are spectacular. I try to make my cabin feel like a place people will be very comfortable in and remember. If you walk in the door and say, "YES!" then I know you'll have a happy vacation. Again, I appreciate your wonderful review. Melanie

Truly wonderful.....

Where do I even start? We have just returned to what feels like the flatest part on earth - from this lovely cabin with a view you just cannot beat. From our very first contact with the owners (Melanie and Bill) to the moment we locked the door behind us -- it was truly a pleasurable experience. Melanie and Bill answered every question I had; and the suggestions they sent and detailed book they had handy, left no question unanswered. The cabin is perfect - absolutely beautiful setting overlooking this stretch of mountains (what you see, is what you get!); peaceful, serene - awaking to the mist clearing in the morning, coffee in hand on the lovely porch. Inside, everything we could think of, we had. Loved the gas stove! Made many nice meals, enjoying the charcoal bbq while watching the sun set. The area for us, was perfect - extremely close to Tsali and Nantahala for biking; Bryson City and the Road to Nowhere was a good ride as well. Great base site for any avid cyclists! Tried some restaurants recommended - also proved right on the recommendation! The cabin is very comfortable; shower pressure's fabulous; bed very comfy; and kitchen was great to cook in - with an amazing view, to boot! Every morning, we'd set our day's plans and go from there. Secluded, yet close to what you need. I would recommend this (and already have) to anyone looking for a great cycling adventure; or just time away in a beautiful place, where you can relax and get away from it all. We'd come again, for sure!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much. It makes me really happy when folks have a good time at one of my cabins. I try to have everything there that I would want if I was the renter. I guess I've done it! There's nothing better than to go on vacation in the Smokies. It's so beautiful and absolutely God's country. It was great meeting you. Again, thanks for your kind words. Hope all goes well for your family, and come back again! Warmest regards, Melanie
