MAUI'S UNSPOILED NORTH SHORE AT YOUR DOORSTEP

Paia Condo Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom condo with pull-out in living room. Sleeps max 4 adults.

Hawaii Tax ID: W01836408-01. Located on Maui's North Shore just steps from Kuau Cove and world Famous Mama's Fish House Restaurant this 3rd floor unit offers an ocean view off the lanai/living room and gorgeous view of Haleakala and surrounding sugarcane fields out the back door.

Literally, a 1 minute walk to the sandy cove/beach. A small reef 20 yards off-shore protects the shoreline from heavy surge making a nice 'tide pool' type beach...great for a short, calm swim.

One minute drive west to historic Paia Town with shops, restaurants, art galleries, etc. One minute drive east to Ho'okipa Beach Park with the most consistent windsurfing and surfing on Maui. Central location and generally year-round great weather make this a fantastic value.

  • children welcome
  • wheelchair inaccessible

VERY NICE STAY

  • 5 of 5
I stayed there with a 12 year old girl for 4 nights. We enjoyed the size of the condo with a separate bedroom and a comfy convertible bed in the living room. It's quiet - the noise from the street other guests complain about didnt bother us at all during the night and I am having a light sleep.
Great location 5 minutes walk away from the cove at Mama's Fish House (go there if you can afford it - excellent food and view - book a table days ahead!) and 5 minutes drive from Paia. Well equipped kitchen and bath with nice beach towels. Josh is very friendly too and helped us immediately, when we at first couldn't find the WiFi-password. The Lanai is with a nice view and we enjoyed the parrot, that visited us around 6 pm every day. The only thing we had some issues was the toilet - just flash long enough, then you are good...
Nice starting point for the sunrise and road to Hana. We also liked Baldwin Beach and relaxing at the nearby beach very much. There is a small coffee shop right around the corner (at the street).
Our friends stayed in a very tiny condo close by which was on the groundfloor with some visits of big spiders and no view for the same price.
I fully recommend to book this condo here - the pictures don't give a nice enough impression, the condo itself is lovely. Go for it!

HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 of 5
I just like to say that the owner Josh was incredibly friendly and helpful. This was our first visit to Maui and were happy we stayed here. The place when first arriving was a bit rough going up and down the stairs with all the luggage however when we got in the condo it was very nice and clean.

The pictures on here don't to it justice. It really is a home away from home. We made the best choice by getting a rental car for our entire visit to the island and it was the best decision. The condo is near Paia and away from most tourist areas. However Lahaina was only about a 15 minute drive where costco and Wal-Mart are.

Mamas is close, very spendy but worth it. We skipped the drinks because there was nothing special about them however the food was amazing. If you can order fresh coffee you won't regret it!!

Only suggestion made was from my wife who wished there was a full length mirror nothing special just something she could use to get ready and not have to occupy the restroom so I could use it.

Other than that, the car noise wasn't too bad the view from the porch was great. Well deff be staying here again.

NEEDS A LITTLE WORK

  • 2 of 5
Well, the location was convienient, except for being at a bend in the highway with major traffic sounds.
It took a half hour to get in the front door, because of the old rusty lock box, and rusty locks. When I called owner, he simply assured me it worked, that I just had to pull in while I used it.
He told me to go walk around until he got around to coming by to let us in, in over an hour.
Well, we had just dragged suitcases up 3 flights of stairs and I had melting kids and ice cream, so I kept trying.
I finally got it using all my strength to pull in while jiggling the lock, and I am very strong.
Owner did come grease the lock the next day, which made it open easier.
But my kids were not able to open either door, the back sliding door took emense strength to slide as well.
The back porch had a nice view but there was no screen in the door, or in the windows, and it was very hot, especially being on the 3rd floor, so our choices were between sweltering inside closed doors, or being devoured by mosquitoes for a crack of fresh air. We did plenty of both.
Also the hideabed in the living room was a painful jumble of springs, with garbage and piles of dust under it.
The kitchen was nice, although the only cookware was scratched Teflon, which is very toxic, and many of the dishes were dirty.
This place would be greatly improved by some screens, a futon or comfortable hideabed, and proper cookware, as well as doors that work, of course, and some better cleaning.
Until then, I'd only recomend it to surfers, and surf lovers, it's right next to hookipa!
Definately not suitable for elders, small children, people with disabilities, or women with aesthetics.

Owner's Response: The front door issue has now been addressed. We had a lot of rain prior to this stay and the door had swelled making it more difficult than usual to open. The only reason I did not come right away to assist this person was that I was 1/2 hour drive away and sitting in a Dr. appointment. As I had told her, the door did work. There was nothing more I could do over the phone and I attempted to help her as much as humanely possible. We will be putting a new screen on the lanai sliding glass door...which has also been re-lubricated. This is not marketed as a luxury rental...thus the very reasonable price. We fix, repair and replace items as soon as we are made aware them. Mahalo, Josh

NICE BASIC APARTMENT

  • 3 of 5
The apartment was on the third floor of a 1970s (guessing) apartment building. It was updated and nicely furnished with a stove and oven, full sized fridge, but no dishwasher in the kitchen. The bed could be larger and firmer. There are communal barbeques and laundry, and for entertainment, a parrot that comes out of an adjacent unit at sunset and sits in the palm trees.
The beach is a very short walk away, adjacent to Mama's Fish House. It is absolutely lovely. It would be great for young families. The water is shallow and the snorkeling is great. We saw more fish here than any other beach.
Another close beach we liked was off of Nonohe street just past Baldwin Beach. It is not marked, at all, but you turn off the highway onto Nonohe street, then find the one road not marked "no outlet" which takes you to the water. There is a reef that runs parallel to the beach, leaving a shallow calm canal to swim laps.
The one problem with the unit was the traffic noise. The bedroom is in front and Hana Highway is surprisingly busy.
Paia is a nice little hippie town about a mile down the highway, making a traffic bottleneck, so it takes longer than you think it might to get anywhere.

GREAT VALUE IN THIS NICE LITTLE HOME AWAY FROM HOME...

  • 5 of 5
We certainly enjoyed our week long stay at this conveniently located condo in Kuau Plaza. The kitchen was well furnished with everything you would need to prepare many meals, although I will admit, we chose to visit a different restaurant for every meal! The unique design of the California style closet is a wonderful addition to the bedroom, providing lots of shelves and drawers to stow our vacation clothing and scuba gear, as well as ample space for hanging clothing. We found the linens and downy soft pillows made for a comfortable night's sleep, although the continuous hum of Hana Highway traffic, did take a few nights to get used to. Not having additional parking available was a little frustrating, especially as our daughter lives nearby and came to visit. After talking to a couple of very friendly tenants in the parking lot, I was pleasantly surprised to find everyone was willing to share their spot, in their absence! The beach is a short walk from the condo and it's a nice, quiet location to sit and watch the sun go down. If ever we return to Maui, I will look into returning to this VRBO location. To say a thing or two about the owner of the condo; Josh is easy to reach and he went above and beyond when we called him in a bit of a panic from the airport. We realized my husband's keys were missing when we arrived at the airport and Josh was kind enough to go to the condo to see if he could find them. He also called the day after we arrived to make sure everything was in good working order.
In short, if you are looking for a place to stay on the North Shore, you will find a great little home-away-from-home at Kuau Plaza. P.S. Our keys are still there somewhere, so if you happen to find them, will you please contact Josh! Mahalo!
