Elk Trail Lodge was built as our vacation home and you will be able to feel how much hard work and love was put into making it an amazing mountain retreat.
As general contractors and custom home builders we paid special attention to the little details. It is an inviting and comfortable place to spend time with family and friends.
We are truly blessed to be able to share our mountain home with others and hope they respect it and enjoy it as they would their own.

White Pass ski area doubled in size in 2011 and it's a wonderful family ski area with the best views of Mt Rainier in the state!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in December, there wasn't any snow yet, but that didn't bother us; the mountain was a quick drive away! This home is so beautiful and meticulously maintained, we had everything we needed in the kitchen, the beds and linens were very comfortable and there was space for all of us! (2 families with 6 kiddos) The 3 older kids slept in the bunk room which they thought was super cool and each couple had a baby/toddler in a pack-n-play in our rooms.
There was a great sound system, the furniture was comfortable and there was enough seating for all of us as well. The fireplace is amazing, but it will get hot upstairs in the loft, so turn it off for a while before you head up there to bed!
I will say that this home is more like a 2 bedroom with a loft. There is the bunk room and the queen sized bedroom downstairs and upstairs is the "3rd" bedroom, which is a big open loft (open to down below, so there is no door to "close off" the room). However, this didn't bother us AT ALL, it's a good size and has a huge full bathroom up there as well as a large walk-in closet.
We loved the hot tub at night after we put all the kids to bed when it was only 9 degrees outside! The boys loved playing on the deck and hunting for moose tracks and poop in the huge front yard!!
The owners were quick to respond with anything we needed and were very helpful during booking as well!
We would definitely return again!
What a beautiful place to stay. Elk roaming in the front yard and mountain peaks full of snow. It was everything and more than I had expected.
Cabin was clean, cozy and had everything we needed. The owners had it decorated for Christmas which was great because it gave us a chance to have Christmas with my son who is stationed at Ft. Lewis. It was a couple hours drive from Seattle airport, but very easy to get to.
I would recommend it to friends and relatives. If we go back, we will definitely stay there again. Mt. Rainier is absolutely breathtaking. Being from the south, playing in the snow was great.
Thank you again Carie for a wonderful and relaxing time.
The house was large, clean and was just gorgeous inside and out! A perfect view of Mount Rainier from the front room windows, a huge yard to play in, creek a few feet away and overall was just awesome! We enjoyed playing bocce ball and soaking in the hot tub before roasting marshmallows. Mt Rainier hikes about 30 minutes away. I slept in the master but there were no other complaints from people about the other beds - everything was very comfortable. A store was conveniently located about 3 minutes away, if that and although we didn't eat at any restuarants in town, there were a lot of people there. The information about the property and pictures did a good job at showing what to expect. Carrie was super helpful to me through the whole process and I would love to stay here again! Well done Carrie!
We just returned from a family reunion at Elk Trail Lodge, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation home. Located just outside the quaint town of Packwood, this beautiful home is ideally situated for exploring the areas around Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. During our days, the more active members of our group hiked the Skyline Trail and Mt. Fremont Lookout Trail at Mt. Rainier, and the Norway Pass Trail at Mt. St. Helens. Breathtaking! Less active members hiked some of the less strenuous trails in the area; visited the Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mt. St. Helens; and toured the Yakima wine country. There's something for everyone. In the evenings, we cooked dinner in the well-stocked kitchen and then sat around the fire pit watching the stars. Just delightful. The home is beautifully furnished, and every amenity is thoughtfully provided. The owner, Carie, is an absolute pleasure to work with, as well. I can't recommend this property highly enough!
When my family decided to tour Mt. Rainier this summer, I struggled to find a a beautiful, comfortable property for a family that would be convenient to the National Park. Elk Trail Lodge fit the bill perfectly. This is a beautiful, well cared for, spacious home with high quality finishes, lovely outdoor spaces and, a touch of mountain lodge fun. When the weather was clear, the views of Rainier from the lodge were just breathtaking. It was so relaxing for my family to come back to the lodge each evening, make a hearty dinner, and sit out on the patio by the firepit roasting marshmellows. Although I was concerned about the driving distances to tour the park each day, Packwood really proved to be rather central to both Sunrise and Paradise areas. The Ohanapecosh area, which is very close, was much more fun to tour than I anticipated . The owner of this property, was very organized, gracious, and responsive to all inquiries. Although it was a bit expensive, I do feel we got our money's worth. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and spacious base to tour this area.
Just finished a seven night stay at Elk Trail Lodge, and had a great time. Carie was responsive and helpful in setting up our reservation, and we found the property to be as described on the website. We didn't notice ahead of time that the home doesn't have air conditioning. I'm actually glad that we didn't notice this, because it probably would have scared us off for the July vacation, and it turned out to be a non-issue. As long as we followed Carie's suggestions and left the windows open at night, then closed everything in the morning, the well-insulated house retained the cool air all day.
The entrance to Mt Rainier National Park is only about 10 or 15 minutes from the house, and we really enjoyed exploring there. Two favorite hikes were Silver Falls and Grove of the Patriarchs. [Nice touch: helpful information on the park and other area attractions was provided in a folder in the house.] We also made a day trip up to Elbe to ride the Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad... which was great for the first 30 minutes or so. After that it got a little old. It was still a pleasant drive up and back [especially back, along Skate Creek Drive - beautiful drive] though. We had also planned to take a day trip down to Mt Saint Helens, but didn't make it. Which gives us an excuse to come back........
We were traveling with small children, so we didn't see too many restaurants, but we did have a few lunches at Cliff Droppers in Packwood. Great burgers, and a chance to eat outside in the wonderful Northwest climate. We were lucky with the weather, and had clear views of Mt Rainier from the house most days. Nights were mostly spent preparing dinners on the grill then, later, sitting around a fire in the firepit, watching the stars come out. With our relatively small group, we had debated between Elk Trail Cabin and Elk Trail Lodge; we decided to spend the extra money on the Lodge for the firepit and the view, and were very glad that we did.
One recommendation for anyone traveling with infants: we rented a crib from Baby's Away in Portland and they did a great job. Delivery and pick up were right on time.
All in all, we were really, really happy with Elk Trail Lodge for our vacation rental, and would recommend it to anyone. The house is modern and comfortable. The view of Mt Rainier is spectacular. The setting is peaceful and relaxing, but close enough to a lot of great activities so that you can be as active as you want to be. Highly recommended.
