A Nice Place to Visit!

  • 5 of 5
The pictures really don't do this place justice … I absolutely love it. We plan on visiting again this year. There was more room than we could explore. The owner & maintenance person are soooo easy to work with. They are extremely friendly and very accommodating. Our only trouble was operating the TV/Cable. I'll get instructions on my next visit. :-) Still a 5-Star in my eyes.

birthday party

  • 4 of 5
We used this facility to celebrate my mother's birthday party. She lives in a retirement community near by. The facility was accurately described. We had plenty of room to gather and feed 27 people. 10 of us were staying at the house. All the beds were comfortable. Plenty of hot water. The kitchen was easy to work in. We enjoyed having the three living areas in the house...living room, TV room and Rec room. The hot tub was enjoyed by the young adults. Both the owner and the maintenance folks were very easy to communicate with. Our stay went off without a hitch! From reading the other reviews, I knew to take everything except linens and towels....toilet paper, paper towels, soaps and shampoos. Therefore we were not disappointed.

Nice home with plenty of room

  • 3 of 5
The setting is very nice and although it is in a development, it feels more remote and secluded because the views from inside are of the surrounding woods.

The house itself is large and has a lot of sleeping space. It was relatively clean, as well. Some of the furniture is a little dated, but the beds we used were very comfortable.

The hot tub was also very nice and in good shape.

Our biggest complaint was that the posting about the amenities was misleading in several respects:

-pantry items: there was none at all. Even the salt and pepper shakers were empty except for about a half teaspoon of salt. Had we known, we could have brought from home.

-basic soaps and shampoo: some of the bathrooms had one bar soap but some had none at all. There was no shampoo, so we had to buy these things.

-laundry soap- there was none.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately laundry soap, shampoo, bath and hand soaps, paper products and condiments are not provided. I have tried to remove all reference to these items but may have missed some text. I apologize if the description was misleading.

I guess the leather couch and love seat may seem dated, but all the furniture is less then 7 years old. I will admit the leather is worn but that is what leather does and I kind of like the look-rustic. The German corner table and schrank may seem dated but it is in the German Bavarian style.

I will address the "relatively clean" with the maintenance company-thank you for your comments.

Wonderful Time at Massanutten / Acorn Lodge

  • 5 of 5
We were blessed to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary during our recent stay at Acorn Lodge. The large dining room table was a hit ... each night we came together for a homemade family dinner and enjoyed each other's company. Lots of laughing and talking occurred!! We watched family movies, enjoyed the hot tub, and explored the area throughout our visit. As a 3-generation family we enjoyed the water park, zip line, spa, go carts, mini golf, Skyline Drive, and Harrisonburg's Historic District.

The property was quite clean and the photos accurately reflect the property. The local contact was wonderful and answered all of our questions.

Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful spot in the Virginia Mountains. It was a great place for some R & R, even with the rain. We sat on the screened porch and enjoyed the rainy days. The description of the cabin was very accurate. It was very comfortable. Everything we needed we had, from plenty of cookware in the kitchen to extra blankets on those cool rainy mornings. The cabin was easy to maintain and was exactly what you could expect from a vacation mountain cabin.

We enjoyed having our pets with us and they loved the walk through the neighborhood. We all got a workout, up and down the hills.

We found several places close by to have breakfast (Thunderbird) and dinner. The location was convenient to shopping and grocery stores.

I would highly recommend this cabin to future vacationers in this area. There was a lot to do that we didn't have time for, but certainly enough for us to make a return trip. When we do I would most certainly stay at this lovely cabin.

Better than pictures but few service issues

  • 3 of 5
We had a pleasant stay for the most part at this lodge. The lodge is much better looking in person than the pictures. The lodge has a scenic balcony and more than ample space for a comfortable stay.

The one drawback is that the hot tub is on the bottom level and the grill is on the balcony on the main floor... due to this, we didn't use the hot tub as much as we would have liked as most of the gatherings were always around the grill on the main floor balcony. Our suggestion is to move the hot tub to the main level... then it would be perfect for the entire group to hang out.

We did incur a few service issues which we felt the owner should have done a better job with as they were anticipating our stay for a month. We found the grill to be out of gas the first night we arrived and were told to go pick up the gas and we would be reimbursed. We go ahead and do this (even though we are not familiar with the area) only to find that the grill was also in need to be replaced. So a new grill arrived the next day of our stay. Small things like toilet paper/ kitchen towels/ soap were all nearly finished and we had to request more. These are small things but should have been stocked up prior to our visit. As I mentioned, we had booked the lodge a whole month in advance; it's not like we booked last minute.

Other than these small service issues, our stay at the lodge was very pleasant.

Owner's Response: The guest is absolutely correct in that I should have had the spare gas cylinder available and I totally dropped the ball on this one. Unfortunately the maintenance person was away for this weekend and could not get a new bottle of propane to the guest. The guest notified me at 930 at night and I live 2.5 hours away and could not get the gas to him before midnight. I called the gas station near the lodge to ensure they had propane and called the guest apologize for the inconvenience and gave him directions to the station so he could be able to grill their dinner.
The guest called me the following day to tell me the center burner of the grill was not working (there are three burners). Although there were two operating burners, the guest informed me that he would not use the grill. I then ordered a new grill and called the maintenance person to pick up the grill and deliver it to the lodge. So, yes technically the grill was broken, however, one could have used the two working burners to address one’s grilling needs.
Yes, in theory, the spa would be better on the upper deck. However, the deck is not structured wide enough for a 10’x10’ spa and the additional liability is not something I want to experience. To be clear, the view from the spa at its current location is very nice and is great when it begins to rain as deck is over the spa.
Paper products and soaps are only provided for the first night. Guests must provide these supplies. I did provide soaps at one time but guests really liked what I bought because they began to take the soaps and paper products with them when they went home….just like the Playstation3 controllers!
I take full responsibility the inconvenience suffered by this guest (lack of propane and burner not working). I refunded the guest an amount I thought fair for the circumstances and situation. However, I did not refund 50 percent of the lodging requested by the guest.
