Photos and Description of the San Francisco vacation cottage rental
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, patio, state of the art kitchen, sleeps 4

Located just 5 or so minutes' walk to the Bay and to magnificent views of GG Bridge and Alcatraz, our cottage offers a real San Francisco experience (with luxury!). If you have read/seen 'Tales of the City', you will know of the 19th century hidden gem cottages that nestle behind San Francisco Victorians. Fully DETACHED, rose-covered, it is surrounded by gardens and was completely renovated by us a few years ago. It is inviting, light and airy and has its own private patio. It is safe and secluded yet just a stone's throw from vibrant, chic, Union Street where San Franciscans come to dine and shop. The best and most desirable neighborhood of San Francisco!

Restaurants, cafes and boutiques, banks, beauty salons, buses and taxis one block away. One convenience store 100 yards away, another within 200 yards. Small park across the street.

Everyone who has stayed here has loved it and our guests constantly tell us: 'We wish we had discovered this spot years ago!'

Cottage Comforts: You will find every comfort, from quality linens and robes to fruit, flowers, tea/coffee/milk/juice/cereal/wine and toiletries and on arrival. Two lovely bedrooms (one with California King bed, the other with Queen Size Bed and doors onto patio). Perfect for 2 couples, a family with children or a couple looking for a romantic retreat.

Furnished to a high standard. Fully equipped kitchen with dining table, living room with wood burning stove, tumbled- tiled bathroom with deep soaking tub, small private patio with table, chairs and sun lounger, central heating, DSL wireless, Cable TV, DVD player, CD player, dishwasher, use of washer/drier. Coffee maker, juicer, toaster, microwave, iron, ironing board, baking dishes, pots, pans, alarm clocks, telephone, books, CDs, DVDs.

Turn-key ready - this is not the kind of self-catering place where you immediately have to go to the store to buy paper towels, toilet tissue, dish-soap, etc. - all these basics are already waiting for you.

Surroundings : An ideal spot to see all the sights of San Francisco. Union Street (1 minutes' walk) Polk Street (3 minutes' walk), Fillmore Street (5 minutes' walk) and Chestnut Street (7 minutes' walk) are all filled with restaurants of very type from high-end to inexpensive and shops and boutiques of every type. The Marina Green and magnificent beaches/views of Crissy Field are about 8 minutes' drive away or half an hour's walk.

By car or taxi Downtown/Union Square/SF Opera/Symphony are about 8 minutes, by direct bus 12- 15 minutes. Fisherman's Wharf is also about 8 minutes' by car/taxi. Buses and taxis are one minute's walk away. Very easy access (5 minutes' drive) to the Golden Gate Bridge for exploring Marin, Napa, the Redwoods and beyond.

Child-friendly amenities: This is a perfect spot for children. It is safe and secure with no-one above or below you. We are also on FLAT street (something of a rarity in San Francisco - try pushing a stroller up some of those hills after a day of sight-seeing!). We have a secure spot for your stroller, etc. You also have a full, fully-equipped kitchen so you can prepare your children's favorite foods or heat a bottle any time you wish.

Patio and garden completely secure so baby or children can be safely out in the fresh air.

Books, DVDs and toys, depending on age. Graco crib available and even babysitting a possibility with notice.

Free use of washer and drier (we even supply laundry detergent and softener!) makes life so much easier when traveling with children.

Sweet, Safe and cozy - with room to breathe

5 of 5
Submitted: April 21, 2013 Stayed: November 2012
Finally getting around to writing this review of this wonderful cottage. I stayed there last November with my daughter and her friend for a long weekend.
Really a great cottage - we wanted to just move in! A great area, right on the edge of the hills but easy to find flat neighborhoods very nearby to go for a run.
Daryl, the owner, has done a great job welcoming people. We made scrambled eggs with English muffins and orange juice on our first morning - all provided by the owner. The girls ate the gift chocolates as soon as they arrived! They are still talking about that cottage in San Francisco.

Charming Pacific Heights Cottage

5 of 5
Submitted: November 24, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
Quiet, well-maintained, and thoughtfully appointed guest cottage behind a traditional Victorian San Francisco row house in Pacific Heights. My wife and I stayed here with our 2-year old for a week while visiting my brother, who lives in the neighborhood.

This cottage is in what is probably one of the nicest neighborhoods in SF. There are charming restaurants and shops nearby, and the Blue Fog Market is an upscale deli/coffee shop at the corner. You can easily run down to the water and through the Marina district, and the Presidio is not too far if you prefer more of a challenge. Trolley and bus access is not far away, either.

As for the accommodations, they were clean, quiet, and secure. Daryl has an impeccable eye for anticipation of her renters' needs. We had a clean crib set up for us. There was tear-free bubble bath in the shower, and when we checked in on the first evening, there were basic fixings for breakfast available in the well-stocked kitchen. Even the toys that she had available for our son had been cleaned ahead of time-- and there was even a "new" surprise for him. We had access to a washer/drier in the main house, and the parking spot (for which we paid extra) was able to fit a Ford Escape. Daryl's communication with me was always timely and accurate.

I would recommend this rental for couples or a family with one small, well-behaved child. You feel like you are part of the owner's home when you are there (even though you have your own very private space), so well-behaved, considerate folks will probably get the most out of the accommodations. We would certainly rent from Daryl again.

Wonderful Birthday Surprise!

5 of 5
Submitted: November 12, 2012 Stayed: November 2011
We stayed here last year as a surprise for my husband's birthday celebration and Daryl was wonderful! My husband's friend joined us a day later and Daryl was able to play along with the secret and stayed home from work for our friend so that my husband didn't suspect a thing! The house was clean and Daryl had flowers and many great breakfast foods available for us upon arrival. Daryl had many great dinner and sightseeing recommendations and the location was perfect! We had such a great time here and will definitely stay here is we ever go back!!

The most wonderful home we ever had on holiday

5 of 5
Submitted: November 11, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
As shown in other reviews we expected a very good home for holiday , but it was even much better!! It´s a very lovely place to stay, The cottage is furnished and decorated in the best of taste, flowers in every room, the kitchen has everything you need for good cooking - and when you look outside the windows at the dining table you only see palm trees and other plants.
It is silent here, you think you are out in the country, but it only takes a short walk to get to the bay, to a super market or to the bus stop. We also enjoyed the private patio very much - it is a loverly place to sit in the sun.

Daryl and Mark are the very best hosts. Whenever we had a problem or a question they were there for us. And we also love the cat.

We have been a few times in San Francisco and we will come back. And now we know the Nelson´s Cottage we only want to stay there!

Absolutely Perfect - Highly Recommended!!!

5 of 5
Submitted: June 18, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We've stayed at many rental properties, but Nelson's Retreat is our new favorite. The location is perfect; parking included, a short block walk to the bus stop, shopping, restaurants, & entertainment. The cottage itself is absolutely charming - very clean, fantastic decor, comfy bedding, well stocked kitchen, beautiful garden and patio, luxurious bath towels & bath robes, etc. I could go on.

The owners, who live on site, are very helpful & do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome, but are not intrusive at all. We only saw them twice during our stay (when we first arrived, & when they assisted us by printing a Groupon). They go above & beyond to make your stay truly special; fresh flowers in the living room & bedrooms, chocolates on the coffee table, a large bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen table, soft chocolate chip cookies (which our kids devoured the 1st night), microwave popcorn, cereal, bagels & cream cheese, a dozen organic eggs, half gallons of milk & OJ, a variety of yogurts, butter, bottled water, a variety of soda. All of these items were very unexpected, but greatly appreciated. This meant we could spend our 1st night taking in the beautiful San Francisco sunset rather than shopping for breakfast food.

I was also very impressed when I opened the bathroom cabinet. There were new tooth brushes & a bottle of toothpaste, shampoos and conditioner, body lotion, a new mini first aide kit, disposable makeup remover wipes, & much more. Again, very unexpected but these items just go to show that the owners want their guests to have a comfortable stay.

This was our first trip to San Francisco & we loved it. The only problem we had was that we didn't pack enough warm clothes (it is much colder than we anticipated). We still had an amazing time. We would recommend; Alcatraz for sure, the Exploratorium (especially if you have kids), Pier 39 / Fisherman's Wharf (somewhat of a tourist trap, but worth checking out), catching a Giant's game at AT&T Park (bring warm jackets), a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge (rent bikes thru Blazing Saddles), Muir Woods, Sutro Baths (Not part of our original plans, but so so glad we discovered them), Golden Gate Park, Go Cars (great fun but go early in your trip - we drove by many sites we wanted to go back to visti.

Even with all the fun we had, we always looked returning to our comfortable home away from home at the end of the each day. We would definitely stay here again!
