Lovely Design and Location

The house and furnishings were fantastic. The views were out of this world, even when it wasn't sunny it was so relaxing to watch the fog climb the mountain and flow through the trees. Lovely trail next to the house, I felt like I was in the woods. The art along the way led a bit of magic to the whole thing.
I can't really complain about anything, the kitchen layout was both great and a little odd at times. The layout of the counters made it a little difficult to hang out, but it added drama and flair.
While clean for the most part, I thought the house could use a good thorough scrub down. There was evidence of a past mouse population and the master bath drawers and cabinets as well as the kitchen were full of left overs from previous renters. I understand this is someone's personal home, and expected personal items, but there was lots of sample soaps and very old beauty products that could use thrown out. The same with the kitchen, I appreciated a little extra stock, but there were so many left overs that it was hard to tell what was good or not.
I will gladly say we plan to return. The bang for the buck is just unbelievable, especially the winter rate. The treasure hunt(s) was a special touch, especially after I read the past guest books and saw just how long it's been going on! I found the treasure, but left it as it was for someone else.

Owner's Response: We were confused about the 5/5 rating after reading about so many complaints. In the kitchen, we have an ample supply of condiments, drinks and cooking ingredients that have been appreciated by our guests. In the bathroom, we have a small supply of medical aids in the medicine cabinet and there is a small box of old makeup in the bottom drawer of the vanity. We are in the process of cleaning out old belongings. There is plenty of room for guests' storage. Mice droppings---yep! That is an occasional annoyance that we attack when we personally inspect drawers and cabinets on a monthly basis. When our guests notice something that needs our attention, such as this, ourselves or our housekeeper takes care of it if we are notified. It is easy to communicate directly with use via telephone or e-mail. We try hard to make the Horizon Hill House comfortable and clean for all of our guests. We are constantly repairing and updating as we can. For example, we have just replaced the roofing and have provided a Cal King Posturepedic bed set in the Master Bedroom. With input from our guests, we will continue to enjoy sharing our special place on the hill above the sea.
