Moot Point Cottage is privately sited on Goose Cove. The front of the cottage has a deck overlooking roses, perennial gardens and Blue Hill Bay. The cottage's large windows offer views of the ocean and fields with apple trees. The first floor is comprised of the entryway, laundry room, large open kitchen with dining area. French doors open onto the deck. The kitchen has granite counter tops, an island with 5 burner gas cook top, warming oven and breakfast bar. The living room features floor to ceiling beach stone fire place, cathedral ceiling and large windows looking out to Mount Desert Island. Completing the first floor is a study with queen sofa bed. The room opens onto a private porch with table and chairs. The second floor features the master bedroom with queen size bed. The tiled master bath is equipped with double sinks and jacuzzi tub/shower. Just down the hall is the third bedroom with double bed and full bath.
I spent a glorious week in this beautiful home early last September! The house looks out across the ocean to views of Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island. From the deck you can enjoy the view and the salt air, and watch for seabirds and seals in the cove. We even saw a bald eagle perched in one of the trees! You might see deer, too. The yard is very private and quiet, down a well-maintained dirt road with only two other homes. There are outdoor chairs in both the sun and the shade, and you can enjoy the beautiful flowers and shrubs. If you want to get out on the water, there are kayaks to use. You walk down a path to the rocky beach, and launch into the cove from there. You could swim in the cove, but the rocky entry is tricky, and Maine is not known for its warm ocean water! Also, there are lots of activities to do and historic things to see in nearby Acadia National Park.
The house is absolutely beautiful inside, with tiled floors in the kitchen-dining-entry area and in the bathrooms. The rest of the house has lovely wood floors, and all of the woodwork and cabinetry are gorgeous. The living room has a stone fireplace and windows that soar two stories; at night you can watch the moon as it tracks across the top windows. The furniture is very comfortable. It is a great place to read or listen to music or play games or just stare out at the view. The den is also comfortable, with a flat screen TV. There are a limited number of local channels to watch, but if you have a smart phone with a WiFi hotspot you could connect it to the TV and stream videos.
If you like to cook, this kitchen is for you! It has very modern appliances, and there are pots and pans and equipment to cook anything you want—if you don’t find it in the kitchen cabinets, check the pantry! It is a joy to be in the kitchen cooking…or to sit at the bar and watch someone else do the work! While there is a dishwasher, you may choose to handwash the dishes at the sink and enjoy the fantastic view!
The two bedrooms upstairs each have a private bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen bed, the other has a full sized bed. The beds and the pillows are very comfortable. The ocean air is delightful at night, so the temperatures in the bedrooms are very comfortable for sleeping.
All of the rooms in the house are decorated with lovely artwork and furnishings. It is fun to walk around looking at the one-of-a-kind objects. They make the home interesting, and peaceful.
My family and I loved staying here because it felt like home and not a dingy rental. The location is perfect, the house is clean, the owners live there year round unless rented which meant they were very attentive. There is a side trail to the water where the kayaks and canoe are kept. The beach is actually lots of jagged rocks that can get really slippery. You need to be careful. The kitchen is very large and well stocked with an enormous grill outside as well. Sitting on the porches was the best because of the views and breeze. The cottage feels secluded even though there are neighbors since you can not see them. We had two boys with us age 11 and 9 along with my 2 year old daughter. I do not think this house is for you if your children are not careful and respectful of other people's things. The owner has many beautiful sculptures and figures throughout the home.
Moot Point Cottage is set on a point overlooking Blue Hill Bay and offers breathtaking views of Mt. Desert Island and Cadillac Mountain from the deck. Nestled in a quiet setting, the cottage is surrounded by apple trees, forest and fields that abound with wildlife; including deer, fox and bald eagles.
The area attracts visitors from all over the world for it's ocean views and outdoor activities. The island's many trails and ponds invites visitors to hike, bike and kayak. If it's the ocean that attracts you try a whale watching tour, sail on the Margret Todd, take a ferry to one of the outer islands for a picnic, or go deep sea fishing. Bar Harbor offers shops, restaurants, theaters and plenty of night life. But you may just prefer to sit on the point and soak up the sun, swim off the rocks, kayak around the cove and relax on the deck, enjoying the view.
