We welcome you to Casa Mora. Rachel is a psychotherapist and author and I am a Realtor and have a financial consulting business. I'm a long time Austin resident and native Texan. Rachel is from Montreal and has been enjoying Austin for the last 25 years. We are music and nature lovers.

Morrie Schulman and Rachel Gunner purchased this house in 2008

We love the peaceful hill country setting only 20 minutes from our house in central Austin. The Texas Hill County is a beautiful, different world. We discover wineries, lavendar and peach farms, outdoor markets, nature areas and hidden treasures every time we visit.

Our home, only minutes away from downtown Austin, allows you to enjoy the energy of Austin's vibrant music scene and night life; and the quiet solitude of country living. Sitting on the back patio, sipping a glass of wine from a nearby Texas winery(our gift to you),listening to the music of the chimes and watching the multitude of birds is the best way to unwind from life's stressors. We cherish our time here as will you.

BEST VACATION RENTAL BY FAR

  • 5 of 5
This was our first time using VRBO and let me tell you, it made our vacation.
The owners were so helpful and alway responded immediatly whenever we had a question.
We got to the house and were amazed, it was even better than the pictures. The kids were thrilled by the pool, which we used everyday sometimes even by 7am. There were fresh linens, towels, spices, coffee, soaps and anything else you may need while staying. We grilled out, ate breakfast out, just took every minute we had to enjoy the serenity. We watched deer, heard the coyotes and even had some daddy long legs trying to join us. We were close enough to downtown, shopping, the zoo and hamilton pool that we never ran out of things to do. Yet, the house is in the country and you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the wildlife and seclusion. The only negative thing we had to say when we left was, we wish we had stayed another week. We will definitely be going back next year!!! Made a ton of memories and thankful for the amazing house that made the trip a relaxing vacation.

BEAUTIFUL!

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful home in a very quiet setting. The outside space was so relaxing. We used this house for our family when we can to Austin for a wedding. We enjoyed it very much. The third bedroom is quite small and really only accommodates one person, although there is lots of space in the living room as well. The owners were extremely helpful and provided all the information that we needed. We would definitely use this property again if the need arises and would recommend this property to our friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate that our guests are enjoying the serenity and beauty of our home.
Just a comment about the third bedroom: we did convert it into a very functional office/den with all the amenities of both, bookcase, desk, computer, desk, printer, and fold out bed. Therefore, the person staying in that room will have less bedroom space but more work space.
We pride ourselves in offering a peaceful and practical home away from home for our guests.

Best,
Morrie and Rachel

WONDERFUL!

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved our stay here at Casa Mora! Remote enough to feel that you are hidden away, yet close enough to enjoy civilization when you want to. The winery tours out toward Fredericksburg were great, and the pizza and beer down the road at Stanley's was awesome!
We really enjoyed the serenity of the little thicket around the house - 3 deer and a gray fox spotted the first morning - and the pool and accommodations were terrific!
Thank you Rachel and Morrie for the lovely stay and the personal touches to ensure we would have a great time!
We'll be back, and our friends will hear about this oasis too.

RESTFUL & PEACEFUL GETAWAY

Restful & Peaceful Getaway
  • 5 of 5
Was down in Austin to celebrate my son's graduation from UT and home provided a much needed respite from the maddening crowds at the school.

We really felt comforted by the sight of the deer and foxes we saw scampering through the woods adjacent to the property. Each morning we'd be greeted by hummingbirds on the porch as we drank our coffee.

The house was well stocked with utensils, towels, and cooking supplies. The home was spotless and the beds very comfortable. A nice sized shower off the master bedroom was inviting.

The pool out back was a perfect place to lounge and relax. There was a carport/garage that is under construction next door but once you entered into the home you never gave it a second thought.

Although a bit further away from downtown than I had anticipated (25-30 min), ultimately I realized that it's also what allowed us to be so removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The serenity of the Hill Country was what sets this property apart.

Although my son graduated we'd gladly stay at the home again since we fell in love with Austin during his 4 years at school.

INCREDIBLE PLACE, ALMOST HEAVEN IN TEXAS

  • 5 of 5
What more needs to be said than we didn't want to come home after almost 2 weeks at this fabulous house. We are already planning our return trip. The location of this home is well away from all the hustle and bustle but still only a short drive to downtown Austin and about 1 1/2 hours (due to traffic) away from San Antonio. There were many things we had planned to see, but we were enjoying the house and it's surroundings too much to leave. The 'locals' in Dripping Springs were so friendly and helpful and directed us to some great, out-of-the-way places. Wimberley, Hampton Pool and the Austin Zoo are just minutes from the house and are a 'must see'. For those of you who fancy yourselves as a 'Lance Armstrong' cyclist, this is the area for you! The main road that you use to get to the house is an excellent road for cycling. For hard core riders, you can easily do a 100 mile ride without ever leaving this road (very bike friendly). Many great restaurants close by and you don't need to go all the way to San Marcos to find great shopping (but if you do go, get ready for shopping overload). Bee Cave and Lake Way are close by and has just about anything you want. With the Preserve abutting up to the backyard, it was like having your own 'mini zoo'. On a daily basis, in the yard we had white tail deer, gray fox, Roadrunners, large rabbits (Hare), cardinals, woodpeckers, wrens, tufted titmouse, doves, and hummingbirds galore. Nature at it's finest! The house is lovely and very comfortable. Plenty of room to spread out and relax. Because of the remote location and the natural setting of the property, this house is better suited to older children and adults who can appreciate the 'wilderness' around it. Due to the delicate nature of the flora and fauna, guests must be cognisant of their impact on the surrrounding area and 'tread lightly' lest they disturb the fragile ecosystem and wildlife.

CHARMING AND WHIMSICAL HOME IN THE HILL COUNTRY!

  • 5 of 5
My daughter and I chose this charming cottage for a mother & daughter get-a-way because we had never visited the Austin area. Neither of us are "big city gals" so the location away from town was appealing and it did not disappoint! It had a quiet, rustic charm surrounded by naturalized gardens full of whimsical fancies (although the many wind chimes were a bit much on breezy nights!) The lovely swimming pool was the deciding factor in selecting this particular property and it was very nice! I liked the fact that the pool was open to nature but would not recommend it for families with small children since it wasn't fenced at all. A new game room, detached from the house (and not quite finished when we were there), might be nice in the future but did have construction debris around during our stay, although to be fair, it wasn't currently included as an amenity when we booked our stay. The property was centrally located for visiting Austin and the Hill Country towns; We especially enjoyed Fredericksburg for the antiques and the wineries! The owners provided plenty of maps and brochures to find our way around.

The house was very clean and well-supplied in kitchen and baths. The photos, as provided, represented the house very well, but conveyed the property to be a little more isolated than was actually the case. The original artwork throughout the house was charming and the furniture was cozy and comfortable. The owners made themselves available to answer questions throughout the booking process and during our stay.

I will recommend this property to friends who appreciate simple, rustic, country style. We had a great time!
