Florissant Vacation Rental cabin

We rented the Hawk Lane property for a long overdue family vacation with our eldest son and his 3 little boys. This cabin was pretty much perfect for us. It made us immediately feel at home. The boys loved being able to hike the area around the cabin and the directions to the hidden waterfall were perfect. They loved the hike and the rock climbing by the waterfall. Friendliest chipmunks any of us ever saw. One even came in the cabin while we were grilling burgers one evening. He scratched on the deck door the next morning to be allowed back in not knowing it was an accident he got in the first time!

The only drawbacks to this cabin are its distance away from the activities around the Colorado Springs area. We knew that going in and had planned accordingly although the road construction on the way out to 24 was a headache. But it might be off-putting for some folks. However, in the words of our 8-year-old grandson, "It is well worth the long drive, PaPa." It is about 1 hr. 10 min. to Colorado Springs. The other thing is that the washer and dryer were a little complicated to figure out. Just be sure to do an extended spin in the washer and low heat in the dryer and you should be fine. Also, it says it will sleep 9 and we saw how it could do that very easily (comfy beds by the way), but the water heater wouldn't very easily accomodate that many showers or baths in a day. Since it is electric, the recovery time is much longer so all hot water usage must be carefully coordinated. Trust me, you don't want to end up under the cold water here!!

The cabin was extremely clean and well maintained. Everything was in place to make our stay a most enjoyable one. We even got to enjoy a mountain thunderstorm one night! The telescope was fantastic as we were blessed with a waxing/full moon the entire week we were there. The boys watched one movie the entire week because they were so enthralled with all the other things to do. The weather was perfect (first week of August) and we all slept like rocks every night. New pictures should be posted on the HomeAway website because the ones that are there don't even begin to do this cabin justice. It is absolutely breathtaking. The views are unbelievable. We enjoyed it more than we can say and the boys were asking when we could come back even as we pulled away for the trip home. Mike and Maggie were great to work with and very accommodating. Believe me, we will be back!!
