Five Islands Harbor (Georgetown, ME 04548) with views from every room of lobstering and boat activity all day long, 2 minute walk to lobster shack and pier, lots of activity for kids (fishing from pier, boat rental, tennis and basketball courts 1 minute walk and behind former Ice pond now with ducks, 1.5 miles of sandy beach at Reid State Park (2 miles away), lots of nature trails, weekly programs for kids at Community Center and Library. Located 13 miles and two bridges down Route 127 from Route 1 (Bath, ME). Two local restaurants, one with views of large sail and power boats in Robinhood marina. Two local lobster shacks provide easy, dockside meals. Local farm produce. You never need leave Five Islands the entire time you are here. Relax in the glorious sun porch which creates an indoor/outdoor environment, sit out in the yard, scavenge treasures on the beach, fish, boat, or just read and sleep. We spent 35 summers here with our family and have now moved. Truly a great vacation place

Five Islands is a working lobstering/fishing village on the island of Georgetown, ME 04548. From Route 1 in Bath, ME, follow Rte 127 S. for 13 miles across two bridges to the very end. Drive time from Boston is about 3 hours (tell the kids to look for the green stone turtle on the left after crossing the second bridge and your almost here!). Georgetown is a community of 500 in the winter which expands to 4,000 during the summer. Managed by an annual town meeting in June, the community has good services. The Fire Department is volunteer and provides first rate ambulance services. The regional hospital is in Brunswick about 15 miles away. Other major employers are the Naval Air Station in Brunswick (set to close in 2012) & the Bath Iron Works which builds destroyers. Georgetown traces back to the 1600s. Bath was the 4th biggest US port in 1850 due to shipping ice to China (enough survived after a three month voyage to make a fortune). See this history at Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.

  • Upstairs Master Bedroom includes a separate comfortable sitting area with huge window facing the harbor and water. This is where we lived in the summers. Great sunrise (I never knew sunrise is just as spectacular as sunset until seeing the sun come up!) Includes TV and stereo.

Notes: The kitchen is basic but very functional. I never got around to re-modeling it as we lived outside most of the time. The stove is gas and there are lots of counter space for preparation. Two and even three people can work easily. Most meals are taken out on the sun porch unless the weather is really bad. The porch warms quickly in the morning and is comfortable all day. French doors to the porch can be opened allowing the whole first floor to have an indoor/outdoor connection.
