Located directly on the ocean front, this antique cottage has views of five lighthouses; four from the cottage and deck, and one other lighthouse from the rockbound coast of Maine at Ocean Point, just in front of the cottage. Nautical activities abound; watch lobster men pulling their traps, party boats carrying passengers on many different routes (including whale watching) out of Boothbay Harbor; private sailboats and power boats; and the lights of the seagoing ferry from Portland Maine to Yarmouth Nova Scotia as it passes by after dark, several miles out to sea.
Enjoy the views of the many islands off Ocean Point, including Monhegan with its lighthouse to the East; Ram Island with its lighthouse and Fisherman's island behind it appearing as a single island; and Damariscove Island. Then there are the Cuckolds and Seguin each with its own light house, and Burnt island with its light house. There are many other islands too; the white islands, outer heron and inner heron, Squirrel island, Southport, etc.
The area is rich in history. The English had fishing stations on Monhegan and Damariscove islands in the 1500's. The first English settlement in Maine was at Pemaquid Point before the Mayflower arrived, and the first ship built in Maine was built there by the first colonists.
If you had been at Ocean Point in November 1620 you would have seen the Mayflower sail by with its 100 passengers on their way to establish the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts. Later some of the Mayflower passengers sailed back to Monhegan where they traded with the English fishermen. See and enjoy the geography where all of this happened.
