Oak Island is a quaint family beach. The island is 13 miles long, with the beach to the south side and the intercoastal on the north side. There is public beach access at almost any block. There are 4 fishing piers, and 2 marina on the island along with a host of fish markets and restaurants. If you like taking bike rides, this is the place to be. Southport is just a few minutes away as a historic seaport, with its many antiques and restaurant. You can take the Southport Ferry to Fort Fisher, Kure Beach and Carolina Beach. There is also a ferry to Bald Head Island. Wilmington is @ 30 miles north. It too is a historic seaport, but much larger. There are several parks for the kids. If you like island living, this is it.

  • An Open Letter to Our Potential Customers,
When Carol and I decided to open our Oak Island home after years of renting ourselves, we agreed that we would correct several rental agreements that had bothered us such as excessively high rent for what we were getting, hidden fees, and vacation costs such as beach gear. We mutually agreed on two principles; (1) that we would rent to guests who promised to take care of our home (2) and that we would always offer 'the best deal on the island'
Consequently, by using HomeAway, we have eliminated the rental agency fee. By asking each guest to leave our home in the same condition he/she found it; we have eliminated the maid fee. We will pay all taxes. And, by providing free bikes, child carts, wagons, beach chairs, and umbrellas, we have eliminated nearly $500 in hidden fees and costs.
If costs matter and you are willing to leave our home like you found it, please consider being our guests.
    Sincerely,
    Dennis & Carol Frazier

Lovely Cottage Rental

Review Submitted: March 19, 2011 Date of Stay: February 2011
We had a lovely time. Beautiful, quiet neighborhood with lots of bikeable streets. Walkable distance from the beach. It truly felt like a home away from home.

loved Oak Island vacation

Review Submitted: August 10, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
We had a lovely, very relaxing time on Oak Island. The cottage is very inviting and was big enough for our family of 5 to spread around. The entire cottage is very clean, and we especially appreciated that in the bedrooms and bathrooms. .
We drove every day to the beach (3 very short blocks away) because we brought along the beach chairs (3)and boogie boards (3)that come with the house. Very convenient!
We also enjoyed riding the bikes that are available (2 and a tandem bike). The girls especially had a blast with the tandem bike!
One block from the house is the local library where we could check our e mails and catch up on the news.
We rented a kayak one day. It was delivered to our beach access and also picked up there. Great service from the Aventure Co. in Southport.
We enjoyed walking around nearby Southport and eating dinner there at the very unconventional restaurant called Provision Co.
We couldn't have wished for a nicer beach! Very clean, not crowded, wonderful water.
In the evening we enjoyed walking to the pier and spend time just watching the water and the sunset.
We can only recommend Oak Island and this very inviting cottage.

A Wonderful Experience

Review Submitted: July 6, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
We had a wonderful time enjoying the adorable beach cottage. Everything was clean, bright, and convenient. The owners thought of every amenity possible for a great vacation. We loved the hammock on the screened porch--a great place to relax. The beach chairs, bikes, grill, and other perks meant we didn't have to worry about bringing so many things along with us. We appreciated the personal contact by the owners advising us of local favorites as well. We were able to enjoy the Intracoastal Waterway (three doors down) as well as the beach (just a few blocks away). We loved being able to take walks; the library was close by so we could use their computers to check e-mail. We would definitely recommend this property to a friend or return ourselves. We came back very relaxed, pampered, and spoiled by all the great ice cream places in the area!
