Just two blocks away is Lake Charlevoix. Access to the City Marina is right at the end of our street with a giant play structure, covered picnic area with grills, sailing lessons, ball diamond and lots more.
A wonderful park is just a block away located on the River with a beautiful Gazebo. The Farmers Market resides here each Wednesday and Saturday morning. Concerts and other activities occupy the park throughout the summer. Young State Park is five miles up the road. My husband and I and our three daughters have spent many special times at this cottage. We have always been skiers and our girls have developed into serious ski racers. We now spend every weekend here during the ski season and ski at Boyne Mountain when we are not traveling to nearby ski resorts for scheduled races.

We have always loved the close knit community and laid back character of Boyne City. The people are real and the town takes you back to a simpler time when family spent meals and evenings together enjoying one anothers company. We first owned a smaller cottage directly across the street and purchased this one when our family got too big for the one bathroom and two burner stove. We have loved having the two living spaces for friends and family. Everyone is comfortable because they have their own space and conveniences.
We have spent nearly every New Year's Eve at this cottage creating memories that will last forever. We live on Lake Erie in Ontario in the summer and are not able to enjoy Boyne City in the summer at it's best. That's why we are happy to share this special home with others who will hopefully fall in love with Boyne City like we have and want to return year after year to continue cherished family ties at a slower pace.
Our extended family of 8 really enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. The pictures online do not do it justice, as they don't show off the spaciousness of the layout and the updated coverings on some of the furniture. For instance, the couch now had a red slipcover that is bright and attractive. There is also a delightful reading nook in the living room that is perfect for a midday nap. Although we only used one of the kitchens, both were fully equipped. And although this is listed as a three bedroom, the bunk room downstairs allows for sleeping for 3 additional people. The first floor bedroom has a queen bed and bunk beds, which are not shown in any photos.
One of our favorite aspects of this home was its close proximity to downtown Boyne City. We were not familiar with the area but were delighted with all that there was to offer. We ate well at the Red Mesa and Café Sante, and bought scones from the Lake Street Market almost every day (we all agreed that they were the best we ever had). We enjoyed the flea market, farmer's market, Renaissance fair, free concert at the Gazebo, and "Stroll the Streets" festival all within a couple blocks.
Charlevoix and Petoskey are also nearby, so we enjoyed some shopping and dining in these towns, and especially Petoskey State Park and its larger beach on Lake Michigan. But I preferred the less crowded, laid back feel of Boyne City ( aka a little less pretentious). If you are familiar with Colorado, think Crested Butte or Breckenridge rather than the snootiness of Aspen or Vail.
The owner and concierge were very helpful and easy to deal with (e.g., when we needed to send ahead some medical supplies for one of our guests) and I recommend this listing, without reservations.
At the last minute we were able to enjoy three nights at this beautiful vintage cottage. The inside of the home was wonderful with beautiful comfortable décor. It was so nice to have two living areas and kitchens to enjoy. The cottage is a two block walk to Lake Charlevoix and we enjoyed Boyne City. It is within close proximity to wonderful other areas such as Walloon Lake, Charlevoix, Harbor Springs and Petoskey. We dined at the restaurants that Marcia recommended and enjoyed them all.
Overall, wonderful stay and look forward to a return perhaps in the Fall with friends to enjoy the color change and tour local wineries.
What a great &charming property. well maintained.Close to some great resturants, Red Mesa was the best. A great family gathering place. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
My family of four and another family of four stayed at this home for a long weekend. We had a wonderful time. The house is just as it appears in the photos -- it is charming and clean. The first floor kitchen and dining area are beautiful. (The kitchen is well-stocked with staples) The dining table easily accommodated our party of eight and overlooks the backyard, which allowed the kids to go outside to play after dinner and the adults to enjoy after-dinner conversation while keeping an eye on the kids. The home also has two little league fields a stone's throw away from the backyard -- they seemed not to be in use over the summer, so we enjoyed playing ball on "real" fields. The home is an easy walk to downtown Boyne City, a charming town that is peaceful and quaint. There are several good restaurants and ice cream shops. The home is a short drive to Young State Park, which far exceeded our expectations. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. The only drawback to the home is its lack of air conditioning, but the owner informed me she intends to add window units to the bedrooms next summer. Our visit happened to coincide with an intense heat wave; I think the area generally cools down more at night than it did during our stay. I hope to have a return visit next year!
My family of 5 stayed with my brother's family of 5 and our parents. We had plenty of room in the house. Two kitchens made it extra convenient. It's perfectly located to walk to town or parks. The house was clean and very welcoming. In fact, it'll be welcoming us all back again this summer!
A beautiful house in a beautiful location – a wonderful place to stay for a variety of activities. We were there to (road) bike some hills and were able to just jump on our bikes and get started. It is also a quick and convenient walk into town or the park by the lake. Afterward we found the house a very pleasant place to sit around and talk about our experiences of the day. The upstairs living room has a cathedral ceiling and a wall of windows looking out onto a pleasant tree lined street, making it very inviting. But – we found ourselves sitting around the big table off the kitchen, drinking coffee / tea and talking. Our only regret is that with all the activities to do in the area, we did not have much time to spend in such a beautiful house.
Six miles from Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge,Avalanche Bay Waterpark, Soltice Spa, fitness and yoga center and many Championship Golf Courses. Young State Park 5 miles.
