Casita Barranca, built by Nobel Peace Prize Physicist and widely read author Richard Feynman, sits on the side of a low beach cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A private stairway, from two intimate ocean front patios, allows for immediate access to a sandy, solitary beach.
At Casita Barranca, you are only a few steps from one of the best beaches in Baja. Walk in the surf, sunbathe, dig for clams, fish, build sand castles, swim, surf or ride horses on the house's isolated and romantic beach. Guests are afforded an extraordinary view of the Pacific Ocean from this one of a kind house, hidden from view in a gated community. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets can be observed from the interior of the house, the patios or the beach.
Casita Barranca has been newly decorated and completely remodeled. Exquisite Mexican furniture and new appliances add to your comfort.
The three bedroom, two bath house sleeps six comfortably.

Still basking in the beneficial effects of a long birthday weekend at Baja, staying at Casita Barranca and soaking in the warmth of the Mexican sun and the local people.
The beach at Playa La Mission has to be the finest in Baja and Casita Barranca sits prettily just above the sand right in the middle of a long and lovely strand you will have virtually to yourselves. The house is a perfect get-away spot - comfortable, bright, well appointed and fully equipped. And the patio is prime seating for those exquisite Baja sunsets!
Walk the sands, swim in clear water, hitch a ride on an ultralight, or simply watch the world amble and the dolphins gamble from your patio perch - you will find contentment washing over you within minutes of arrival like a cooling ocean zephyr!
Can't say enough about the courtesy of Amelia, from whom we rented Casita Barranca. She was super-responsive to our inquiries and even e-mailed mid-weekend to make sure we had all we needed. And we did - a beautiful beach house, a beautiful view, a beautiful beach which all adds up to one beautiful birthday weekend!
It had been quite a few years since we had been down to this part of the world but, for those who know the area, you can be assured all is well with the La Mision Loncheria exactly the same as ever - same family, same fabulous Huevos Rancheros; La Fonda back in Dimitri's hands - oh those flour tortilla chips and so glad the waiters are cheeky again!
Great place, great house, great weekend. Go stay at Casita Barranca - you will not be disappointed .... except when you have to leave!
Five big stars!
Oh, and pardon the pun in the title but, then again, it was Richard Feynman's house at one time!
Our stay at Casita Barranca was awesome. The house is right on the one of the best beaches in Baja, yet far enough away from the public access that you feel like you have it to yourself. The home is comfortable, well decorated, and has incredible sunset views. The security guards at the gate were helpful and friendly and we felt very safe. We swam, body surfed, paddle boarded, rode horses, and went wine tasting. Our dogs enjoyed the long walks on the beach and didn't want to leave. The restaurants recommended by the owner, Amelia, were outstanding. We will definitely be back.
My mother and I stayed at this lovely home on the beach in La Mision, about 50 miles south of the US Border--down the baja. The home is so cozy with stone walls, persian-style carpet, and windows to the ocean, that I guess I'd describe it as Bohemian Luxury. The Mexican tile work in the bathrooms and kitchen is beautiful, and there are candles everywhere, but in a safe way. it is furnished with high quality antiques and mostly all wood products. the beds were wood framed and lovely.
it was great for our dogs, as they couldn't get out and get lost, yet the beach was right there. my dog and I played fetch about 10 times, at least, each day. It was fully equipped right down to a cappuccino machine. It was so lovely I would love to keep it as my special secret so it would always be open for me, but that would be unfair and impossible.
I had the privilege of meeting the owners, Michael and Amelia, and they are so bright, charming, and delightful, that it is no surprise why they have such a lovely home on the beach--1 mile south of La Fonda. people of their character always have the neatest places for rent.
Four of us enjoyed the beach here over New Year's. We had cold weather, but staying inside with books and music was very relaxing and enjoyable. The house is heated only with a wood stove in the corner of the sitting room, so if your trip's weather forecast includes chily nights, I recommend bringing flannel pajamas and warm socks. We were there during a rare cold snap, and it was cold inside, but the house has plenty of nice coverlets, so it was OK. Driving south of the border was no problem for us. We enjoying driving down to Ensenada to see La Bufadora.
This is our second holiday stay at Casita Barranca. My family and I are so blessed to have found such an incredible house with the most fantastic views of the ocean, dolphins and its beautiful sunsets. Everyday has its unique sunsets and weather conditions, not to mention the lunar sunset I had experience for the first time! It was breathtaking!!!!!! We can't get enough of this beauty.
The best thing is watching my family and the grand kids play golf, softball, fish, swim, and collect a variety of shells as I watch them from the Casita and not worry a bit while I'm preparing meals for a soon to be a hungry party. Love it!
Amelia, Michael and their family are the best. They are very personable and caring hosts. They always make sure we are comfortable. Their Casita is so well equipped, comfortable and maintained. Loved your new Stove! There is plenty of time to read or write in your personal book. I get very inspired. Thank you Amelia and Michael.......we hope to be there for our third time again! Love, love
We loved our 3 night stay at Casita Barranca - house is even lovelier than the pictures online. 2 couples ,1 single shared this beautifully decorated beach-view home for long weekend & wedding in the wine country. Filled with amazing art tile, interesting books & art, wonderful history & comfy furniture. All 5 of us commented on the really good mattresses :) Amelia provides clear driving directions from the border and a key in an easy-to-find lock-box.
Owners live in top house, so are available if you have any problems. 5 minutes from either La Fonda (great restaurant & a spa) or the little town of La Mission. Well-located at the intersection of the back road up to Valle de Guadalupe (and currently – as of 10/2014 – the only road through to Ensenada – until they rebuild the beach road from the last landslide!)
House comes equipped with:
1 large bedroom ensuite - lots of closet space & King sized bed
2 smaller bedrooms (1 queen, 1 full) share a full bath off living area

Decent knives, cutting bds, gas stove w/ oven, microwave
All pots/pans/dishes/silverware/glasses you could possibly need
- Lots of beautiful stone steps to get down to house & beach– not for those with bad knees or mobility disabilities.
- House looked kid-safe, but terraces/steps steep & railings unsafe for toddlers.
-In Baja almost all homes have delicate plumbing on septic systems - use minimal paper, hold down the flusher to flush completely, and be prepared to use a plunger occasionally!
-Don’t leave food or trash out , ants are easily attracted in this part of the world. (we saw only ants, NO other icky bugs – I’m super-cockroach-phobic (saw them in other Mexico rentals), so happy to report this one roach-free!)
