FANTASTIC FAMILY VACATION

  • 5 of 5
We had an amazing vacation. The villa had everything you need.... tons of spices and basic necessities for cooking. Fully stocked bathrooms, I can't say enough about how the villa is set up. Jim and Theresa were wonderful. Thanks for taking my kids tubing behind your boat! I also own property I rent on VRBO and I highly recommend the Villa at Nancy Lake!

MARYLAND TRAVELERS

  • 5 of 5
Nancy lake villa was everything it was advertised to be and more. The house was beautiful, everything worked, there was a lot of books, magazines and Alaska information, plus dvds. It was quiet and secluded but close to restaurants . We took day trips to Talkeetna and Portage Glacier and Hatcher Pass and the Alaska State Fair, and enjoyed all of them. Jim and Theresa gave us recommendations on restaurants and things to do. The jacuzzi tub was great and it was nice to have a washer and dryer, especially since we were on a month long driving trip from Maryland .We lucked out and had 4 days out of 7 that were sunny and Denali was in full view all day.Wevwould higly recommend this home to friends and relatives.

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED

  • 2 of 5
The cabin was very nice. The views were spectacular and the amenities were wonderful. We had everything we needed. However, the noise level at the cabin area was very unsettling. There was road construction going on the entire time we were there. We had some very unruly, drunk boys hanging around on the lake until all hours screaming about using drugs and being high, and family members of the owners went in and out of the garage below the cabin to get ATVs and jet skis, which did not make for a quiet, serene setting. We were really disappointed with the amount of people coming and going in the area. We chose this place because it was far from Anchorage, and really out in the middle of no where. We thought we would have lots of privacy and quiet time in a peaceful setting. It was actually noisier than my neighborhood at home, which is in a big city. Sleeping was difficult due to jet ski and boat noise late into the night, and the road construction noise started at 7 am and went late into the evening. It was just too busy and crazy for us to rest and feel like we were experiencing the real Alaska.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you thought the villa was nice with spectacular views and wonderful amenities, and that you felt like you had everything you needed. Unfortunately, the road construction was very noisy and was happening at just the wrong time -- during your stay. I don't blame you for being disappointed about that. We looked into the problem about loud boys on jet skis; it turns out that there were a few nights when the lake was being utilized after the 11:00 p.m. curfew but not anyone we personally knew. Sometimes visitors (not ours) on the lake are not aware of the curfew and the huge area in front of our cabin is a popular place for jet skis and boats from all over the lake. Visitors are often unaware of how clearly the sounds from the lake travel up the hill and it is frustrating when they seem to be unaware of the curfew. Also, when it comes to accessing the garage to pull out our ATV/jetski, we try to be as minimally invasive and quiet as possible and only in the middle of the day. We apologize if this disturbed you and thank you for letting us know. Nancy Lake is actually a very quiet and serene place to be, except on some weekends. It is a especially busy on Fridays and Saturdays when the weather is nice. I always enjoy watching the busy activity from the deck - it is very entertaining! Otherwise, we are amazed at how quiet and peaceful it usually is. We hope you will consider trying us again so you can see what it's like without the road construction noise.

WELL STOCKED AND SPOTLESSLY CLEAN

  • 5 of 5
We couldn't have chosen a better base for our 1 week trip to Alaska. Theresa and Jim have gone out of their way to stock the villa with everything a vacationer might need. The boats are an especially nice touch!

There are several attractions within a 3 hour radius of Willow. Prince William Sound must not be missed! We took a 4 hour cruise from Whittier to see the Blackstone glacier. We knew it would be spectacular, but it far exceeded our expectations! The road to Whittier is also very scenic, especially around Girdwood.

Another highlight of our trip was the Matanuska glacier. You can actually drive there and walk right up to the glacier. I would also recommend the drive over Hatcher Pass.

We went on a day trip to Denali National Park, but didn't have enough time to get to the really scenic spots. We took the shuttle bus to Toklat river stop and was able to get a few distant peeks at Mt. Mckinley.

WELL MAINTAINED WITH EXTRAS

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at Nancy Lake. There were many boating options to be enjoyed. The mosquitoes aren't so bad on the water. Be careful with the directions from a gps device. Once a right turn was rather straight and we ended up in someone's driveway. The house number is near the street. there were steep stairs to climb to enter the property. Caretaker near by helped with the boats.

NANCY LAKE VILLA

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay at Nancy Lake Villa. The owners, Theresa and Jim, were very helpful from the moment we booked our trip. The villa had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. They even had an assortment of books about Alaska which were helpful when we wanted to book tours or go hiking. From this location we were able to take day trips to Denali, Prince William Sound, and Matanuska Glacier. We also made a day trip to Anchorage. My husband and I, along with our two grown daughters stayed the week and felt very comfortable in the villa. I would recommend this listing!

Nancy Lake is a popular state recreation site -- nearby streams and lakes offer some of Alaska's finest Salmon, Trout, and Pike fishing. It is less than 15 minutes from Deshka Landing. The area includes an extensive (foot, canoe, snow machine) trail and waterway system of connected lakes and rivers. There are 100's of miles of trails, some of which connect to the International Iditarod trail (which lead to Nome on the Bering Strait.)

Nancy Lake is a large lake (five miles long), and is perfect for a full spectrum of watersports and winter sports. Hatcher Pass, also nearby, offers scenic vistas, excellent hiking and berry-picking opportunities in summer, and skiing and snowmobiling in winter.
