Squirrel's Nest is the quintessential lake cabin with granite stonework, wood-burning stove, high-end linens and beds, and tree-shaded decks. Set on a corner across the street from the lake, the cabin is two blocks from the West End Beach.
It is comfortably, completely equipped for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. The loft “master bedroom” has a queen bed, a day bed with trundle, and a private balcony. The second bedroom has a double bed. The living room sofa is a hide abed.
The cabin is stocked with firewood, winter sleds and snow shovels, as well as summer hammocks, barbecue, and deck and beach furniture. Gas furnace and stove, washer and dryer, and TV/DVD/CD. Enjoy an extended retreat in this charming forest home that sleeps eight.
My husband and I recently returned from a 4 night stay at the cabin. It is in a great location; walking distance to the lake and two beaches (one public, one private), and a 7 minute drive in to Truckee.
Lots of amenities, WiFi worked fine, quiet, and dog friendly. Because we like and need to get away a few times a year, we'll likely be staying at the 'Squirrel's Nest' again! Thanks Mary for your prompt email and phone responses!
The cabin was perfect for our family of 3 boys(8,8,5) and a girl (8). Easy walk to West End Beach and nice corner lot with a great decks front and back. The owners are very responsive and had every detail accounted for to make it a wonderful stay. Kitchen is stocked with all cooking needs and beds were enough to comfortably sleep 6. the bedrooms are both upstairs and downstairs making it a good choice for seniors or those with children alike. The cabin is very cute and there is very obvious pride in ownership. Will definitely be back!
We've stayed here a couple of times and we absolutely LOVE it. This year, my family went for my husbands birthday/our anniversary and a few old friends joined us along with the family pets! The cabin has plenty of space and is so relaxing, comfy and cozy. Every night, we gathered around the fireplace, told stories and laughed. The kids had a blast throwing snow balls and sledding in the morning & skiing during the day.
This cabin holds everything needed to make one feel at home and the cabin is always clean and tidy.
The owners are wonderful, accommodating people.
We cherish every stay we've had there.
Great, homespun cabin that is the perfect winter getaway. We were pleasantly surprised by the many squirrel figurines - it really is a squirrel's nest! Cabin was well stocked, linens on beds, towels in the bathroom. The wood stove warmed the cabin right up. The owners were friendly and responsive to emails and calls. Would recommend without hesitation.
After braving the drive from the Bay Area in white out, we were so happy to get to the cabin and discover it was completely delightful. Well outfitted with kitchen supplies, comfy bedding and cable, we soon found ourselves in a winter wonderland. Kids built snowmen, sledded, had snowball fights. We made great meals, played scrabble and drank whiskey next to the fire while the snow fell softly around us. Couldn't imagine a more ideal Christmas with the family. Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven, Mary and Tino!
We have stayed at the cabin twice before and our family thinks of it as a home from home as we bring our 14 yr old golden retriever with us and don't have to worry about him being left in a kennel now he's so old. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and the property is snug and cosy and perfect for our annual ski trip. We eat out at the many wonderful restaurants in Truckee, as it's so close by, and cook huge breakfasts at the cabin before heading out to the snow. The proximity to so many of the mountains means we have now skiied Northstar (15mins), Sugar Bowl (8mins), Alpine Meadows & Squaw Valley (20 mins), Norden and Soda Springs (5 mins). We love this cute and cozy cabin.
