Maui- True Maalaea Beach Front at Kanai a Nalu

My family has stayed twice in this unit. This is a gem of a unit and resort. It is really, really ocean front. It is also very affordable for oceanfront. We loved walking the beach to the reserve. We also loved playing in the waves just a little south of the resort and finding sea urchin spines to collect. Maalaea is inbetween Kihie and Lahaina. That makes any kind of activity you would like to do very acessible. For activities on the water, you are within walking distance of Maalaea Bay. If you like the "tucked in", quiet retreat, this is wonderful. Next door to the resort is a private residence that is used for private parties. Very laid back. In other resorts, you will have to pay for parking and still won't find a convenient space. Not so here, we always found parking either close to the stairs if we were in a climbing mood or close to elevators if we were not. The lanai is big enough for 4 people and the views are awesome. We would sit and watch the Pacific Whale Foundation boats start out in the morning to go to Maalaea Harbor and then return to their moorings in the late afternoon each day. I have not had the privilege of being in this unit during whale season, but I have heard it is wonderful viewing. If you want to be seen by everyone else and stay in a glitzy place, this is not the one. If you want to stay in a lovely place and appreciate the laid back Hawaiian experience, this is wonderful!
