Very relaxing and affordable summer vacation spot! This large, circa 1900, pet friendly family retreat is located only 65 miles from Washington, DC and 70 miles from Richmond, VA. This one-time boarding house has 7 bedrooms (one is used as a den) and 4 full baths (one with a clawfoot tub). Large, open kitchen with island seating and dining table. Family room with TV, satellite (HBO) and DVD player. The house is about 100 yards from a sand beach and swimming on the Potomac River. Large screened porch in the front and large open deck in the rear. Huge yard with play area for kids. House is fully equipped with a full kitchen, washer/dryer and a kid's playroom. No smoking allowed. YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN LINENS.

Perfect Home Away From Home

This review is a little (okay a lot) late, but I wanted to make sure I got it in at some point because this house is surely one that should not be passed up.

A group of friends and I stayed here for a week in the Summer of 2010. We were just looking for a small town that wasn't super busy to have some fun, relax, get away from our busy lives, and maybe spend some time exploring the area around. For this, the colonial beach house was perfect.

The 6 bedrooms left us with a lot of room to not feel on top of each other, even with 14 of us in the house. The bathrooms and kitchen and even the rest of the house were all quite spacious and very well cleaned. The only negative thing I'd say is that this house surely isn't "newer." Some doors tended to stick and handles occasionally fell off, however, this should not be seen as a distraction, it is just an older home but adds to the charm, For the price you are paying, you certainly cannot get much better.

We also did a lot of traveling and from the area, there are so many things to see and do! We spent one day exploring Fredericksburg, one day at the theme park Kings Dominion, one day we took a train into DC and we also found local Kayaks to rent nearby. The beach right down the street was conveniant too, however, not your "typical" beach, but it was satisfying enough.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend renting this home for your vacation. Sean made the process so easy and was very accommodating and understanding with any requests we had. Thank you so much for providing us with such a great home for our vacation!

Great Experience

Our family had a great time spending a week at Colonial Beach. The house is the perfect location to be within walking distance to everything. The kitchen was nice and open, the bedrooms were cozy - there was plenty of room for everyone to be able to do their own thing. There was only one room that didn't have an ac unit, which would have been nice - but the others seemed to keep in pretty cool. We had turned that front room into a Wii room, so adding an ac is the only thing I would recommend. I loved this vacation and would definitly do this again.

I have to say we had a wonderful time...thank you Morna. There was plenty of space for everyone and getting everyone ready at the same time was a breeze. The amusement parks the family want to go to was about a 2hr drive from Busch Gardens, Water Country and Kings Dominion but all in all the house was great. The beach 1 block away made up for the drive. I will recommend this rental again to family and friends.

We spent just a weekend here, with our three sons and their wives, and our 3 dogs. There was plenty of space for everyone, and the four bathrooms was definitely a plus. This was one of the first vacations we've had when NOBODY was glued to the computer, their cell phone, or the TV. It was so good to have everyone under one roof, and sitting around the kitchen, or the living room, and actually talking to one another. We all took strolls along the beach, rented a couple of golf carts for a day and explored the length and breadth of CB. We caught a couple of live performances at High Tides, and sat back and enjoyed some great Joe at Espresso around the corner. I even treated my wife to a birthday cake made locally up the street at Sweet Tastin Bakery.
Our vacation was too short, and the days were a little hot. We'll go back during the fall when we can sit outside on the deck and the screened in porch and enjoy the fresh air.

Thank you Morna for a wonderful time at your beach house. It was great to get the teens off facebook and sitting at dinner eat night. Loved the whole golf cart rental. You need to publish that in your ad! I will e-mail you about next year!
