If it could go wrong, it did

We rented the cabin Labor Day weekend. We asked repeatedly for directions and they were NEVER sent. The last time was when we were on the way up and promised they would be on out Blackberry in 45 minutes. They didn't come so we followed some google directions which led us somewhere else. When we finally got out of someone else's private driveway pulling a trailer in the pitch black, and got cell service. The renter's did not answer their phone leaving us to find our own way to the cabin. We asked locals, they didn't know the street (this is a very rural area). We asked people at the campground, they didn't know the street. We even called the sheriff who told us to try one road which eventually led to that road. We got their 2 hours after we should have. Then there was no DVD player as stated in their ad. The hot tub was broken and never heated up. The plumbing was not working correctly. There were no instructions for renters in cabins like we have always found in other rentals. We made numerous calls and e-mails to the owner/renter while we were there which were never returned. Then we finally got in touch with them when we got home to try to get a partial refund because of the problems. They actually hung up the phone in the middle of a quiet conversation because they didn't want to deal with the problems we had. Not only did they absolutely refuse to work with us on the rental price, they did not return our deposit and we totally fulfilled our part of the agreement. They would not return phone calls or e-mails and did not send the deposit back. We called HomeAway and they contacted them. Our deposit was to have been returned within 30 days from checkout time and they finally sent it the first weekend in December (over 60 days later) after numerous additional phone calls. We had many options for that weekend but chose this place because it had a fair price, looked nice and was slightly cheaper than others. It actually costed us way too much in time and aggravation, the features we paid for were not available and it was absolutely the worst rental experience any of us have ever had. It's a shame because it was a nice cabin with a good view. Rent this property at your own risk.
Owner's Response: Our guests have never had any issues trying to locate our cabin. We reside within the same development where the cabin is located and if any of our guests have any problems, we are there in record time to correct any issues. The campground is very helpful as they are personal friends of ours and we provided discounts to our guests for canoeing and kayaking down the river. The DVD player was taken from a previous guest and was an oversight on our part and has since been replaced. We take great pride in our 2006 log cabin and value our guests enjoying their vacations. This is the only guest who has left unhappy.
