March in Big Pine Key

My husband and I along with our 2 kids (7 & 9) stayed at Cabana del Sol, in fabulous Big Pine Key. When we got there, the place was very clean. To our surprise, the kid’s room was not part of the main house. They needed to walk outside (5 feet) to get to their room. They locked their doors (2) at night and we kept our doors unlock. They were excited to have their own place and were not afraid at night even when a storm took place. We had the pleasure of seeing 2 manatees in the canal behind the house. It felt like spending time at the cottage. Animals were plentiful (iguanas, turtles, birds).
We cooked and BBQ’d the whole time and we were happy with the amenities. A Winn-Dixie close by had everything we needed for our stay. There were a few condiments and kitchen items left behind by others (Spices, S&P, hot sauce, saran wrap, etc). We added a supply of coffee filters, tinfoil , BBQ starter and a BBQ brush. There was dishwasher and laundry detergent as well as dish soap and a fresh bar of soap in the house (not sure if they were provided or were left over’s). Plenty of towels were provided for bath and beach. We searched and high & low for a wine opener but couldn’t find one. We emailed Nickie, she felt our pain, and within 2 hours one was delivered.
Though it wasn’t heated, having our own pool was a treat. The temperature was comfortable and only got warmer under the beautiful Key’s sun. We loved the high speed & on demand TV. On the other side of the canal is a park which has tennis courts, baseball field, skateboard park, outdoor racquetball, jogging track and play structure.
Bahia State park is a short drive and a must to go visit. While you're there take in a snorkle trip to Looe Key, it was amazing. Key West is not too far and an easy day trip.
We highly recommend Cabana del sol to friends and family and look forward to our next stay!!
