The queen size bed room has three walls of window so it actually feels like you are sleeping in the woods with the creek below...It's delicious...Twin beds make up the other lower level bedroom...The upper level master bedroom with bath has balcony for a gorgeous setting. About The Owner

We enjoyed our visit with friends so thoroughly that we bought a vacation home, knowing we would love exploring the area on retreats from the city...which we take advantage of as much as possible...

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose Beech Mountain

We chose Beech Mountain because of all encompassing resort amenities available and close proximity to Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin itself is situated in the seclusion of woods with less than 5 minutes to all amenities, so the best of both worlds is achieved...

What makes this cabin unique

Serenity is to be experienced at Ursa Manor...with immense windows in each room peering into the woods, you feel at one with nature...roaring fires in tremendous granite fireplace is sight to behold...magnificent hiking trails along creek, accessed immediately across street from cabin...beautiful vistas from drives everywhere...

Perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5
My girls and I stayed at the cozy Ursa Manor for almost the entire month of June 2012. The beds were very comfortable and the cabin was clean and easy to maintain. The A Frame design allowed for an incredible view of the woods and creek, giving a treehouse effect for perfect nature watching no matter where we were in the cabin. We enjoyed feeding the many deer and the turkey that visited often. My Florida girls were enthralled with the creek and spent an hour one day washing their socks and shoes in it. It's the simple things in life that are the best. Being at Ursa Manor made it possible for us to reflect on what was truly important.......We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace (in June!), scrabble, making bread and jam, and reading aloud the Wind in the Willow. Although the cabin had several tv's, we did not turn them on even once, however, I must confess the wireless was invaluable. The cabin was very convenient to trails, the Beech Mountain Club, Fred's, restaurants, and so much more. There is SO much to do in the area.

Winter Paradise

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed at Ursa Manor this past February 2011. Every good thing you've read about this home is true. It's warm and comfortable. Karen is very easy to work with as is the property manager. We didn't see any bears this time but hope to the next time we stay. The wildlife there is amazing. After seeing all of the deer the first night, we went to Fred's General Store the next day and bought a bag of corn. My husband and son put some corn out after a day of skiing and we had over 20 deer right outside the house that night. By the end of the week they came as soon as we shook the bag! We also saw foxes and the cutest red squirrel with a stubby tail that we named Stumpy. Our son had never seen snow before so imagine our surprise when we could sled right there at the house. The skiing was good in Beech. Everyone is super helpful. The living room with the fireplace was so welcoming and we were able to spend quality time together in the evening just talking and playing games.

I highly recommend this tranquil retreat that will make you want to go back. We are!

Escape from Florida

  • 5 of 5
We have visited this cabin on several occasions and have always discovered new things to do. The location is beautiful, quiet and soooo relaxing. There we so many Deer just outside the window; 3 to 5 at a time just walking around. They were beautiful!
The cabin is so cozy with the Bear decor and the roaring fires kept us curled up on the couch while we played games and enjoyed long conversations with friends. The kitchen is well equipped...we even prepared Steak Au Pouive!
We didn't ski this trip but the hiking was great and the views are so breathtaking!
Do yourself and your family a favor and visit this creekside cabin...the memories will last a lifetime.

Three Generation Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Ursa Manor provides a very comfortable, workable setting for a three-generation vacation. We recently treated our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages 6 and 3 to their first mountain experience.( a four-day "School's Out" long weekend.) The young people slept downstairs in the master bedroom and children's twin bedroom and we (age 60-something) grandparents slept upstairs, away from the chaos. We had our own small, but perfectly adequate bathroom, bedroom, and loft-area to ourselves.
The children thoroughly enjoyed hiking the trails, seeing deer, and swimming in the lovely Beech Mountain Club pool.
As far as excursions, we visited Grandfather Mountain, where we walked the swinging bridge, had a picnic, and toured the wildlife center.
The next day we explored Linville Cavern, which was perfect for the children. It's not the biggest, but they were duly impressed and had a great time. From there we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway (on its 75th anniversary, 2010) to Blowing Rock and had a delightful brunch at the Blowing Rock Cafe. (fabulous versions of eggs Benedict) Lots of cute shops.
Jackalopes View got mixed reviews (daughter-in-law had a delicious chicken dish and son had a dreadful steak) but we all enjoyed our special "last night" dinner at the Alpen House. Waitstaff could not have been nicer and and the trout was wonderful. Vegetables especially delicious. They prepared a grilled cheese sandwich especially for our 3 year-old grandson. Pricier, but well worth it . . plus, we didn't have to leave the mountain.
Would love to spend a Thanksgiving Weekend here some day.

Karin & Albie went above and beyond to make this a great vacation for us. We loved the cabin, and felt like it was in the best location possible - so close to the pool for our son, a quick drive to the store and dinner options, close to hiking trails and Lake Coffey. Wonderful location, and I felt like it was a safe area for my little one (no monster drop off cliff). The house was perfect for our family, and our son loved exploring it with all the little bears nestled everywhere! Great time, thanks for your hospitality. We'd love to come back someday.
