Chef Susan Neff, owner and manager of the two suites, came to Harbour Island as the Executive Chef of the Coral Sands Hotel. Susan purchased the property in 2000 and spent the last nine years renovating the home and adding to it. When she left Coral Sands Hotel in 2004 she began renting two suites that she had added for guests.
The gardens are especially lovely and are enjoyed by all of the guests, as is the Crow's Nest and the view from it.
Susan Neff purchased this villa in 2000
Very beautiful, private and extremely safe for all.
Owner on property to assist 24/7. Lovely gardens to walk in and view of the ocean from Crow's Nest.
I just spent 2 weeks at this property, a beautiful hideaway on Harbour Island, one of the loveliest islands in the Bahamas. Nestled in lovely landscaping on the southern end of the island, this property is minutes from the world famous pink sands beach, and even less to the bay side of the island, famous for spectacular sunsets. A large bedroom, efficiency kitchen, a good sized bathroom, and outdoor patio, all very moderately priced make this an ideal spot for a vacation. The piece de resistance is the rooftop deck atop the house where my friend and I had morning coffee, lunch, and a drink at evening as we watched sun go down. The very friendly owner of the property, a former chef, is available at all times for questions regarding directions, restaurant recommendations, special events, and general info on this amazing little jewel in the Bahamas. She also arranged a sightseeing boat trip around the bay for us, and introduced us to several local people This is a very special property at a very reasonable price on an island noted for its celebrity homes and lodging. I'm definitely planning a return visit!
Harbour Island is one of the most charming and friendly islands in the Bahamas and this charm is what we found in Chef Neff's Getaway. It also comes with one of the nicest tour guides you will ever find in Susan Neff. She really goes out of her way to make sure that you are enjoying yourselves. She knows everything and everyone on the island. The accommodations are certainly a good value. Why spend a fortune on a room that you spend so little time in it. We would definitely recommend Harbour Island and a stay at Chef Neff's Getaway.
My sister and I spent a week at Chef Neff's Getaway in early May and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The apartment is clean, comfortable and nicely decorate with a perfect little patio outside the front door. My sister and I had breakfast out there every morning while watching the roosters roam around and enjoying the beautiful and well kept garden. The beach is breathtaking and just a five minute walk away (if that). As a bonus, two beach chairs come with the rental. Susan is a wonderful host and very helpful and organized. As a professional chef she was able to point us in the direction of the best places to eat on the island and even had a typed up list of recommendations printed out and waiting for us when we arrived along with a map of the island. When we told her we wanted to spend a day driving around Eleuthera she arranged for a rental car for us and gave us a printed out day trip guide with sightseeing and restaurant recommendations. Scuba diving? Susan arranged that for us too! We got an amazing private tour from one of the locals of sea turtles, sting rays, sandy beaches and, of course, snorkeling among the reefs. Lastly, if you're a cat lover, Susan has two beautiful and extremely friendly felines named Simba and Sarabi. If my sister and I make it back the island (and we really hope we'll be able to soon!) we know exactly where we'll be staying.
We came to Chef Neff's in early January and were thrilled with everything. From beginning to end we were well taken care of. Arriving late she asked in advance what we might want to eat and she had it waiting for us. She had a cab waiting and Troy was so helpful and a delight to deal with since we called on him several times during our stay. We were happy she reserved a golf cart for us, waiting at her home because we thought we would bike everywhere - definitely more a golf cart place! Her place was perfect for us. There was a wonderful little patio where we ate, watched the birds and hen with chicks accompanied by several roosters and a charming room where we mainly slept since we were out swimming and exploring. You can walk to a lovely beach and walk many places including a place to eat, a casual fare. We enjoyed the Crow's Nest which had a beautiful view especially at night watching the incredible stars. Chef Neff put together a fabulous trip to Mann Island for snorkeling with a local man which couldn't have been more perfect as we picnicked then explored the waters. A must for all! Many thanks to her for not only being a fabulous hostess, helping us maneuver around but showing us a very special place and introducing us to very special people! Hope to see her again soon!
We arrived on Boxing Day 2013 to enjoy an incredible week at Chef Neff's Getaway and Heron's Nest. We were fortunate to stay in both of her lovely apartments, and we would recommend either as great, clean, with nice kitchens and bathrooms. Most important both had comfortable beds and lovely porches overlooking her beautifully landscaped yard. Chef Neff made our stay wonderful from the beginning. Chef Neff gave us recommendations of where to eat, shop, go to the beach and generally explore. We would love to stay at Chef Neff's Getaway and/or Heron's Nest again.
I had the privilege of visiting Harbour Island last May. We (I had a roommate) enjoyed the Hideaway Suite as our home base. It has all the comforts one would need on a tropical island; comfortable twin beds, a small but well-equipped kitchen, a well-functioning bathroom and plenty of closet and drawer space to unpack for a two-week stay. It is also well located; a short walk to the beach in one direction and a shorter walk to the harbor in the other direction and plenty of friendly people along the way. It is also possible to walk to the main harbor (downtown), but most visitors rent golf carts to get around.
Every morning we took long walks on the pink sand beach and returned to enjoy breakfast on the veranda overlooking the garden. The hibiscus are particularly beautiful in May. In planning our day, we used the maps and ample information provided with the suite. Susan Neff, the owner who is affectionately known on the island as Chef Neff, made sure that every day was filled with excitement and good food. Indeed, the trip would not have been the same without our gracious and knowledgeable hostess, Chef Neff. We enjoyed many a cocktail with her on the Crow’s Nest overlooking the beautiful island and sea at sunset. I urge you to do the same; it will be the highlight of your stay.
A minor blip to the trip may be the inconsistency of the electricity and wireless reception. But that is to be expected in the Bahamas. So bring a flashlight for the evenings and put away that electronic device; you’re on vacation! You may also want to be forewarned about the roosters who crow all night. I used earplugs the first few nights, but as I got use to them they melded into the other sweet sounds of the island and I fell into a deep sleep.
Harbour Island is full of adventure and very friendly and interesting people. Indeed, when you first arrive on the dock, hitch a ride from Troy Higgs (Taxi-1 – Junkanoo Cab), a fabulous musician. If you’re interested in Bahamian music, he’s your man.
In general, Chef Neff’s suites are by far the best value for your money on an island that caters to the rich and famous. So you need to take advantage of this gem as soon as you can; I intend to.
