IDEAL FOR ENTERTAINING, this house offers an open floor plan where guests can dine next to a woodstove on chilly afternoons (we supply the wood) and cook up a storm in our fully-stocked kitchen with stainless appliances, professional quality cookware, range of culinary tools, and glassware and dinner service for eight.

OTHER AMENITIES include HD cable TV with two flat screen monitors (one in the master bedroom), two DVD players, secure wireless Internet, and a land phone with free long-distance within the U.S.

*OUR NO CLEANING FEE POLICY! We don't charge you to clean the premises if you leave it in the same condition as when you arrived. We even supply the cleaning materials.

IDEAL FOR SMALL GATHERINGS, this two-bedroom home can accommodate up to 6 guests (2 queen beds plus an additional inflatable air mattress as needed).

CURRENT RATES: September/October: $125 per week night (Sunday -- Thursday); $145 per Friday and Saturday nights. Minimum two night stay. Sorry, we are unable to accommodate single night stays.

PETS: well behaved DOGS ARE ALLOWED (if approved in advance) for a nominal fee of $5 per pet per night. Please tell us at the time of your initial contact if you have dogs, the breed and how many.

Both outdoor enthusiasts, Lyla Foggia and Kelly Neal discovered this tranquil riverfront oasis in 1988, while searching for a lifestyle change after a decade spent in highly stressful careers in the film industry. Ironically, the same day they moved into the home, Foggia, a former VP of Publicity for TriStar Pictures, received a call from Disney Television in Los Angeles, asking her to supervise the national launch of their new daytime television show, “LIVE with Regis and Kathie Lee.” For the next four years, she collaborated with executive producer Michael Gelman and his team to make ratings history - working primarily from the home’s sunroom facing the river, when she wasn’t with the cohosts in New York. In 1995, her landmark book on the history of women and fishing (also written in the sunroom) was published and later selected by Field & Stream magazine as one of the top 25 books on fishing in print. Meanwhile, Kelly, who had served in such pivotal positions as head of Universal Studios’ Classics Division and Assistant General Sales Manager for Roger Corman, became one of the Mt. Hood area’s leading real estate agents for many years. Lyla continues to work as a national marketing and PR consultant, and they now reside in Portland’s Pearl District.

This place is absolutely perfect. The location is easily accessible from Portland. The owners are extremely accommodating, providing everything you can imagine. The house is furnished better than most houses where owners live full time. Kelly covered everything when we arrived so we felt perfectly comfortable--he had a fire already going in the fireplace. The outside patio is HEAVENLY!

If you are looking for a perfect getaway rental, this is it.

The only drawback we found was the wireless was very weak. The only location you can really pick it up is in the back part of the house. But then, they may be a good thing when you are in such a beautiful place--force you outside.

Be careful

So to be fair in this rating, I notified the owner prior to booking that I was in the Hospatality industry and our main concern was cleanliness, I was assured that would not be a concern. I also find it prudent to mention that we have rented many times before and have had some great experiences. While the location was outstanding there were issues. The owners were great host, quick to answer any questions pre and during our stay. That said, the house reeked of cigaret smoke (embedded in the carpets and drapes) and there was a strong pet urine smell from the carpets. The last challenge were the mattresses in the bedrooms. They sagged to the center, while if there were only one person per bed this would not have been an issue. When this was brought to the owners attention we were quickly informed that we should find else where to stay due to the rates they charge do not justify fixing these issues.
So be warned, if the above mention items will not bother you, then this is a great house.

Owner's Response: My husband and I care greatly about our guests’ experience, so we are truly perplexed. Notably, this is the only complaint we have received about anything to do with this house since 2008, when we first put it on the rental market. At least a thousand people have stayed overnight there and no one has complained. Not only is the carpeting and bedding cleaned frequently, the home is deep cleaned between guests. Even so, if there is a legitimate problem with the house, we of course want to know it as quickly as possible so we can remedy the problem before it becomes a major nuisance. This renter - who happens to be the general manager of a major resort hotel (with a number of negative online reviews) in Southern California - did not mention any of these problems to us until two days after they checked out of a five day stay. We stood in the house with him for at least 20 minutes after they checked in: not one word about smelling anything. I spoke with him by phone two days later and asked specifically if everything was okay. His response: “yes.” So it came as a great surprise when he informed us in a post visit email that: “We thank you for the hospitality. A couple of notes, we would love to return, but: I’m asthmatic and someone has done a lot of cigarette smoking in the house. It is embedded in the drapes and carpet. Also, the carpet smelled of dried pet urine. Lastly, the mattresses were caved in the center, making for very uncomfortable sleeping. Please let us know if and when these items are resolved and we will be back, great location.” Note: this was the very first time he told us he was asthmatic, or that they had any problems with the house during their stay. I wrote back, noting that it is possible he was smelling smoke from the woodstove, since he had fired it up during his stay. Also that the carpets have been completely shampooed and the bedding washed prior to his stay. So I recommended that he stay at pet-free rentals with no woodstoves in the future, and gave him the contact information for the two vacation rental agencies in the area. He was so annoyed that he cannot come back that he retaliated by complaining here. I am happy to provide potential renters with all of the correspondence regarding this case to confirm my statements.

Awesome view

We rented this property for my son's 25th birthday. Kelly was onsite when we arrived and was very helpful. The view is awesome and the patio was also a great place to hang out. The home is well stocked and very comfortable.

I would highly recommend this place for those who need to unwind and relax and regain their sanity. I look forward to visiting again!

Gorgeous

Couldn't have been more relaxing! The owner was actually there when we arrived and gave us lots of tips on where to hike and what to see. We were on a limited schedule so he told us what was most important and gave us plenty of literature to browse through. It was hard to want to leave the house though because all that gorgousness was right outside the window!
