We are Paul and Julie Michau. We live in Beaufort, South Carolina and stay at our home on Roatan three months a year. We bought land and built our dream low country house, with wrap around porches to maximize the spectacular views and sea breezes. We love the fact that we can get there from home to home in under 5 hours. Be snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. How better to Live!! Love!! and Relax!!
Paul Michau purchased this house in 2006
We bought here because of the friendly Island people, the scenic beauty and the easy flights directly to the island from the USA.
Snorkeling, Kayaking, Fishing, Exploring the numerous interesting aspects of the Island.
We enjoy the peace and quiet of our secluded area and the fabulous views.
There are many things that made our time in Roatan awesome and at the top of that list is the Seagrove Retreat. The house was more than comfortable for our group of 6 adults and 1 child. You will find everything you need from towels to items in the kitchen to water gear like kayaks and snorkels. It was such a bonus to have the pool for relaxing and the washing machine made life easier. The home is situated up on the hillside taking full advantage of the breezes. The home's staff was beyond helpful and accommodating. Franklin and Junior made sure we were able to go to anywhere we wanted and arranged for us to have the freshest lobster and fish. Their recommendations for restaurants and activities were excellent. The owner, Paul, is extremely easy to deal with and a good Roatan resource as well (he suggested our fantastic dive guide Larry). We would like to come back to Roatan in the near future and would definitely want to stay at Seagrove Retreat again!
What a wonderful home. BEST. VACATION. EVER.
Just spent 2 weeks in this wonderful home with my wife and our closest friends to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I can't express how much we enjoyed our time here.
First of all, the house is incredibly beautiful, the location is amazing.
Junior, the local caretaker, and his seemingly endless family took great care of us and takes great care of the home.
the local scuba shop picked us up and dropped us off at the dock and in between dropped us on some of the most beautiful reef wall dives in the world, pristine reef with 300 year old barrel sponges, lobster, king crab, barracuda and Lionfish (pretty, but an invasive species with no natural predator in the carribean)
Local fishermen would bring the catch of the day to the dock where we would haggle for price.
my only regret is that we only stayed 2 weeks.
We were two couples that enjoyed our stay at the Seagrove Retreat. The house is huge with all amenities included. Stereo, table tennis, paddleboard, kayaks, snorkel and fishing gear, hammocks, and all the cooking supplies you need. The pool has amazing views and if you have more than 3 couples going the casita would come in very handy. The only downfalls to this house, and after you are there they disappear, is the distance from the airport (roughly 40 minutes) and the stairs down to the house. The stairs are not as big of a deal once you realize that your luggage is being carried both down and up by your property manager, Franklin. This guy is tops in my book after chasing us to the airport to hand me my power cord for my laptop which I had left behind. Remember, this is a 40 minute ride, ONE DIRECTION! The guy is there for you whenever you need it. There is also a caretaker onsite, Junior, that makes sure that you are taken care of and will make sure the gate is open for you and the pool and grounds are well taken care of. Not very intrusive but there when you need him. The house gives a local phone which rocks when making arrangements with tour companies or asking Franklin any questions. I would consider this place again when returning to Roatan.
10 days, 4 adults. We had a fabulous time. I've traveled to many places and this, by far, has been the first and only time so far that I have actually felt "at home" while on vacation! Private and secluded. I will admit, before we arrived, I had safety concerns, just about the island itself, but couldn't have felt safer than at the house. Can't wait to come again!
This was our first trip to Roatan and we so enjoyed the island, the friendly Roatanians, and especially our stay at Seagrove Retreat! The setting could not be more idyllic---a lovely home---spacious, well appointed with every convenience---including an ice machine---surrounded by beautiful, lush tropical gardens. The inviting pool and deck and porches are perfect places to spend time relaxing, reading, swimming, sunning, or just being mesmerized by the gorgeous views of the sea and lush green hillsides. We so enjoyed watching the local dories travel past the byte---some on their way to fishing areas or snorkeling spots, and even the school dory transporting children back and forth, And, at night we caught view of an occasional cruise ship, lit from stem to stern, sailing to the next port of call. The stars were spectacular with very light interference from the island towns.
There is much to do just staying in place at the Retreat---fishing from the dock, kayaking the byte and beyond, through the mangrove canal cut to venture to a local dockside restaurant for lunch, or snorkeling the reef. Junior and Franklin could not be more helpful or kind and interested in seeing that the Retreat guests are comfortable and that all is well. It is nice to know that they are at the top of the hill and ready to lend a hand or organize some sightseeing---either by car or boat.
We enjoyed a few afternoons out sightseeing, etc.---West End and West Bay, lunch and snorkeling; Frenchman's Harbor--great lunch at Gio's; Turtle Bay resort; jelly & jam tasting at Marble Hill farms; and hiking around the Point neighborhood. Even, grocery shopping was an interesting event and the selection was bountiful---lots of fresh seafood and fresh fruits. We had all of our meals al fresco, dining either at the table on the deck or lunch by the pool. We were lucky that we were vacationing during lobster season and the lobster dorymen stopped by the dock offering an array of lobsters fresh from the sea!
All in all, we highly recommend Seagrove Retreat for a wonderful vacation destination---we hope to return next year with friends!
This home is SPACIOUS and very very nicely furnished. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining and being part of the entrainment while preparing food and drinks. Dining on the lanai is PERFECT ~ the view is SPECTACULAR. What a wonderful place for reflections and day dreams! Caribe Point is one of my favorite areas of Roatan and I am very familiar with the island. From this home you look directly at the cliff face across the bay ~ it reminds me of Pirates looking for a treasure marker. Our son went out diving from here and thoroughly enjoyed that. You easily snorkel the bay right from the house. The pool is a wonderful addition to holiday enjoyment. This is paradise for sure as it away from the crowds.
We have a deal with East End Divers who will pick you up at our dock and take you diving or snorkeling.
We also have the telephone number of a water taxi to take you on short excursions to restaurants or through the mangroves and various channels. Travelling the mangroves to the North side of the Island and up and around the East End of the Island is a gorgeous trip.
